Rinsky
I just bought two working 2600A systems last week at a flee market and it turns out one of them is the Atari VCS - CX2600A Promotional Console. It has the Sunnyvale, CA. label on the bottom and the "Not for Resale, For Promotional Use Only" stamped on the underside along with the numbers 132. Does anyone have more information about this console or the value of this system? Thanks.
Albert
Hi Rinsky and welcome to AtariAge! This question comes up periodically, so it seems there are a fair number of these consoles floating around out there. I'm sure these were just units sent to stores for demos, although they must have shipped quite a few of them. I don't think there are any technical differences. It's a cool item to have if you're into collecting all the various hardware variations and probably the rarest 2600 console produced by Atari. Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be any mention of this in the Atari 2600 FAQ. We should probably make some mention of this "Promotional Console" in there somewhere, as it comes up pretty often. ..Al
