vwyob
Ok....I bought a huge box of games and carts from an american guy at one of our 'car boot sales' here in the UK. Amongst these were two atari carts with the magical (but simple) beagle bros label on them. Got home and plugged in my 2600 PAL. Colours were odd but i take it thats because i am running a PAL unit, however...the actual game sparked up on the screen as ACTIVISION, not BEAGLE BROS. Are these fakes or pirates? i seem to be gathering quite a hoard of pirate, non-working and dodgy games..Any help would be appreciated
Albert
Hello, and welcome to AtariAge! We're not really sure what the origins of these mysterious Beagle Bros. labeled games are. You can take a look at the three we're aware of on our Beagle Bros. page. The games we've been able to verify so far are Basketball, Keystone Kapers, and Q*bert. We don't know if these were created by Beagle Bros. or if someone just decided to use that name when "pirating" them. Although you must admit, the phrase, "we care...about your money" is very fitting for them. Do the games you purchased resemble these at all? And what games did they end up being? Would you be willing to scan the labels and send us the images? ..Al
Alex
That's quite a nice find you have there, what titles did you get? We only know of three, you can find them here. And when I say three, I don't just mean three titles, I mean three carts. These are pretty rare beasts. Unfortunately I don't know much more about them - I corresponded with a few ex-BB employees, and they didn't know anything about them. If you have anything that is not listed, we'd love a scan. vwyob
Thanks for such a prompt reply and the warm welcome ! The first cart looks almost identical to the scan you have and is keystone kapers, however not in very good condition. The second again with white label with beagle brthers name and logo says skiing but the end label is in black and says 'KEITH' on it and the game does not appear to work. I asked the guy about these games and he had no idea. So... i met up with a friend and fellow 2600 lover who said these were quite unusual and gave me 'ATARIAGE' site address. But he also said that there are loads of fakes out there and pirate games so i should'nt get to excited. I am a landscape photographer, but i have no scanner! (how sad is that ?) but i will endevor to get them scanned for you. Both carts look like they have had tape across the front of them and are both a bit grubby. Cheers...Andy
AtariDude
I don't know if those are fakes but I believe that Beagle Brothers was a name of a company that wrote software for the Apple II series of computers. I found a site dedicated to their memory at the following URL: http://www.panic.com/~stevenf/beagle/legacy.html
vwyob
To all the emails i have got over last 8 hrs i thank you all for your advice and info... ten minutes ago we managed to get the skiing cart working by cleaning the visible contacts and then air blasting all the gaps we could find in the cart..it is skiing AGAIN BY ACTIVISION NOT BEAGLE BROS !!! GRRRRRRRRRR..If indeed all that the beagle guys did was rebadge the activision games, then i think it wrong to have them up as rare as any bloody fool can slap a label on a cart to achieve similar status. I would much prefer to have found an official rare cart than the apparent crap i have in front of me now! ..Does that sound ungrateful? (tad drunk, mother-in-law here it had to be done..apologies for any typos)
vwyob
by the way ...let it be said that this is truly an excellent site...BUT YOU KNOW THIS ALREADY!!! ohj boy...hangover in the morning.....peace
Alex
Sorry we didn't make it clear before, but as far as we know, Beagle Brothers games are only rebadged games from other companies. There are no "original" Beagle Brothers titles. If you don't like them, I'm sure you'd have no problem trading them for some other super-rare original games. Even though the difference may only be cosmetic, they're still very very rare.
vwyob
Cheers Alex...How much are they worth ? i love to play and am not really into the rarity thing more the variety thing dude
Tempest
That's a tough one since they're really just a label variaiton. I'd bet if you put them on Ebay they'd go for at least $100. Tempest
