Osmeroid
Does anyone know what grade of paper and card were used to print Atari manuals and boxes? Can they be printed with an inkjet? Has anyone else managed to print these at home successfully?
+-^CrossBow^-
I have printed several labels for my carts which either had labels missing or were in bad shape. I use a glossy photo quality paper on my Canon8200... Assuming I can get a good source for the pic to print..they can look as good as the real thing! Then I use spray adhesive to attach them to the carts themselves...Many a Pitfall has been made to look new this way.
jahfish
i have found some inkjet-foil that is silver metallic .... seems to be a nice effect for making ataricarts, but i haven't tried yet .... unfortunately these cost 20$ (1 pack/ 5 sheets) and i only got one pack for 5$ on trhe fleamarket ... so these would be some pretty expensive labels ... otherwise if you plan a bigger ammount and you want boxes also, i would advise you to check Junie .... he's doing a complete production service for that! jahfish
there's also companies that can now print directly from disc, so the innitial costs you have with offset-printing are reduced. if you manage to get the labels and manuals on one sheet the price could be ok ... and it will look much better than inkjet or laser prints .... it is very important - if you use laser printers - to check if the toner ("laser ink") will stay on the paper/material if you cut it .... or just bend the sheet. also printing on a large sticker can be an ok-solution for the box. the HSC cart from curt vendel is a good example. but i prefer creative ideas like the venture2 box or the wooden box for Qb
Doc4
Well, I just completely redrew the Activision and Atari (black label) labels by hand in Illustrator. I made them exact down to the smallest detail. Leaving out only the artwork which I like to fill in later. its a pretty effective method, once I had the label the art was a snap. I also created a German version as well I love those German carts. see below. Remember I created these in Illustrator, so any pixilation you see is due to web complications or Photoshop shrinkage. These are primo vector graphics. As for the printing, I'm down with some photo quality paper but spraying with spray adhesive never works for me. I always find that it peels later. But I coundn't think of another method. I have used this foil paper to print 3d renders off a mid level inkjet, the results were good but actually I prefer HP premium glossy paper, the color saturation looked more natural. I think that for an Atari label glossy paper will work best. But try both. I use the HP premium for CD lables too and they look very good. In the end it depends on what you like anyways. Doc4
quote: "kleine maus wohnt hier" ??? you got me puzzled ..... what game is that supposed to be? jah fish I made these labels for fun and was just using them for the demonstration. jahfish
my favorite white material for inkjets is semi-matte foil, try it and you'll be astonished ..... it's really great, because you still have as much luminosity from the material and the same bright colors, but that (for me too) shiny glossy effect is gone. By the way I love German and the German Atari variations. I was in Germany not that long ago, in Bonn and Königswinter. I really liked it there. Here sucks. maximebeauvais
Does someone have a blank template of front and end lable for the atari compagnie, activision compagnie...... Also, what is the picture editor that you are using? THANKS
jahfish
i use a few programs. photoshop to edit the pictures ... it's just the best tool, even if you just use version 4 or 5 .... i haven't updated to 6. i don't believe in all-in-one solutions. freehand to do the typo / logos .... it's a great tool, specially to adapt some letters in the fonts .... sometimes i use fontographer or metamorphosis to convert pc-fonts. all this on a macintosh. for the printing, i wanted to add that it's always very good to have your stuff laminated with the same thin stuff they use for softcover-books, but this might be expensive ...
