MattyXB
Pac-Man is a great idea. Here some others: Frogger, Pitfall Harry, Q*bert.
kyle
Has to be pac man maybe MS pac man Qbert or pittfall Harry. But i think eveyone sees pam man as atari's poster child

AtariDude
I would probably use one of the characters from the Atari Force comics to represent Atari.
NE146
How could Pacman be Atari's mascot when he's so strongly associated as a NAMCO character (and for you guys in the states, MIDWAY). That's sort of like saying Mario or Donkey Kong should be the mascot for Atari. However Pitfall Harry, while an Activision character, I think is a pretty good mascot for the 2600. As for Atari as a whole, I always liked Major Havoc but I'm probably in the minority

The Night Phantom
A stock CX40 joystick. With hands and feet, if necessary. On second thought, that might look much too Freudian. OK, a Fuji with hands and feet...?
Scooterb23
A Circus Atari guy after he misses the see saw???
krambigmac
My icon says it all. It's Atari exclusive I think and Combat was the first game. Runners up include Frogger, the guy in Decathalon, Basketball player #2, and the Jungle Hunt guy. Why #2 you ask? I just wanted to be difficult. Stella'sGhost
Pac man is good but my vote goes to the one truely timeless character that sums up everything at Atari is: The cursor from Adventure.
The Night Phantom
I like the Basketball idea. Here are a couple more Atari-owned 2600-specific characters: [*]Yorgle, the yellow dragon from Adventure [*]the Yar
Rhindle The Red
I think it should be: *ahem* Rhindle the Red. (Like you didn't see that coming.) Seriously, at least he's an Atari character who's never been (officially) on any other company's system. Go on in, Dolly and have a ball. Or two. StanJr
The point against Pac-man makes sense, but when I hear atari first two things that come to mind are Pac-man and Combat, in that order. My vote goes to Pac-man Now do not tell me to reply to a poll again...without saying "please" and "thank you." (There is not please in the Topic Header) Miss Stan Manners

Inky
Thinking about this a bit I'd say either a tank from Combat or the Yar...
The Night Phantom
A mascot is supposed to promote whatever it represents. From a 2600 perspective, at least, Pac-Man would generally conjure feelings headed 180° from the right direction.
atarian1
Bentley Bear all the way! The bear is cute, cuddly, nonviolent and can be merchandised. I imagined stuffed Bentley Bears with a plastic red gem with the Atari logo on it. Then bundle it with Crystal Castles. Also, chicks dig teddy bears. (I can't imagine a girl calling a pointy hedgehog, a fat plumber, a lizard, or a caveman "cute".) It's sad there was no Crystal Castles sequel. He did show up in Atari Karts for the Jaguar. Also in the last days of Atari and the Jaguar, "The Return to Crystal Castles" was announced. (I wonder if it was started?) But it would have been kewl. Just my wild imagination after work. (and a Crystal Castles fan)
HawgWyld
quote: Originally posted by MoJoFLTR: Not so much of a mascot, but PONG. Whenever I think of the VCS, the first game that pops into my head is Combat, so I suppose one of the tanks could be a mascot. My vote is for the Pong ball and paddles, or the Combat tank. The "Combat" tank gets my vote. That's the first one that really got me addicted to the system, and I'm certain I'm not alone in that. As for Pac-Man, I think that would make a horrible Atari mascot. Why? The 2600 version of that game was absolutely dreadful, and a lot of folks still remember how bad that game was. Associating Atari with such an awful game just takes something from the "image" of the company. "Combat," on the other hand, is something I believe the 2600 was all about -- simple graphics and absolutely addictive gameplay. That's how I'd like to see Atari remembered -- the company that got millions hooked on the 2600.
moycon
I'll go with either the guy up on the wall in Beat Em and Eat Em.... (Whats that guys name anyways? Harry Palmer or something) *bada bomp *rimshot* Got a million of em. either that or maybe Yars Revenge.
