Tempest
So does this mean that all Sears picture label carts were made in 1982? That might explain why most of them are so rare, since I think Sears stopped selling telegames games in 1982. Tempest

Moreover, it appears that some of the rarer carts were only produced during a single week.

Christophero Sly
. . . and no - there's no date stamp on the Superman picture label. I dare you to add one. I wonder whether lack of a date stamp represents another week of production; same week of production, but at different a facility that didn't use date stamps; or just some carts that didn't get stamped. I guess we'll never know. 22nd week of '82 was a pretty busy week it seems. It appears that some of them were made for just this one week. I think this helps to explain the relative rarity of many of the Sears picture labels. I was also hoping some pattern would emerge that would shed light on the question of why only certain titles received picture label treatments. Unfortunately, I don't see any pattern, and that question will likely remain a mystery. Thanks for your submissions.

NovaXpress
Sorry I missed this until now. I have a box of Sears carts ready for examination. While I take a look, someone explain the deal with date stamps. What do the Sears ones mean as opposed to the Atari ones? Christophero Sly
... someone explain the deal with date stamps. What do the Sears ones mean as opposed to the Atari ones? The date stamps indicate the week and year of manufacture. The first two digits represent the week (out of 52) and the last digit the year--1=81, 2=82, 3=83, etc. For example, 412 would be the 41st week of 1982. The date stamps mean the same thing on Sears carts as they do Atari carts. I started this thread to find out how many weeks of production certain Sears carts had and if that might help to explain why some are hard to find, while others are quite common. There is also a thread for the date stamps that appear on Atari text labels. That thread seems to indicate that games like Blackjack, Concentration, and Fun with Numbers that were believed to be discontinued at the dawn of the picture label era, were actually made until the end of 1982, albeit with text labels instead of picture labels.
