Using the VCS adapter on the 5200...

Eventually I want to get this component, but first I'd need a 2 port Atari 5200.

I was just wondering, since I don't actually know, how well do the Atari 2600 games play on the Atari 5200 (I'm for sure NOT talking about controlling the games). Are they graphically/sound the same? Are there differences? Or could you not tell the difference between playing it on the VCS adapter vs. the real thing?

And while on the topic, how well does the 7800 play VCS games? Better/worse/more/less vibrant graphics, and how bout the sounds?

The adapter has it's own joystick ports, so you shouldn't have to worry about controls. I imagine the graphics and sound should be exactly the same, or at least the differences would probably not be noticable. Does anyone know of any games that don't work through the 5200-2600 adapter? I know there's a handful of games (Robot Tank, Decathlon, the Supercharger, etc) that don't work through some 7800's... is this the case with this adapter too?

By the way, it's possible to modify a 4-port to work properly with the 2600 adapter. At the moment, I don't have a link to the instructions though...

The 7800 plays VCS games much the same as a VCS with the exception of the few games that won't work in the 7800. From what I've read, the compatibility problems are mostly (only?) with newer post-1984 7800 units. Glad I got a mid-1984 unit :-)

FYI, the 7800 includes the same TIA found in the 2600's, and the same sound chip. So, these parts work pretty much the same.
