NoahsMyBro
I grew up in New Orleans! About 4 years ago I moved to NJ. And while NJ overall is a much worse place to live than NO, it's gaming mecca. For years it seemed all the good stuff was in the California or NY areas, and I was always missing out. Since arriving in NJ, I've been to 2 NAVA mtgs, both PhillyClassics, and am going to this weekend's once I'm done at work today. I've also been to a JagFest, and seen several different cool old &/or import videogame shops. And of course I earn far more than I ever earned in Louisiana, and I can afford to occasionally buy the games I want. And in June we get Arnone's Crawfish Fest. It's exactly like Jazz Fest, only a bit smaller and much less crowded. I know how you feel, I lived it for a while. But, wasn't JagFest in TX last year? And you could always take a trip up here. If you've got the time to drive it, driving up through the mountains in VA is gorgeous. Steve

NoahsMyBro
Perhaps you could try to organize one yourself? You ought to be able to find some small location that wouldn't charge too much for an afternoon's use. And the allure of NO will help draw people that might be on the fence. It seems there are several Jaguar fans in TX, and of course there's bound to be a geek contingent (I was part of it) at LSU & TU. You could probably get enough people in on a Saturday afternoon for a small 1-day event. JagFest 98 wsn't too big, and everybody had a great time. Use the boards here, AtariHQ, Digital Press, etc... to gauge interest. Steve
Paul Slocum
Billy Eno (creator of Warring Worms) had talked about organizing something in Austin, but I'm not sure what came of that. -Paul
Phosphor Dot Fossils
I too would be all for a mid-south gamers' convention. I could probably bring some stuff to show off if it was within a reasonable driving distance.

We are still working on it. It's been going slowly, but now that PhillyClassic is past, we should be able to make more progress on this effort. ..Al

+-^CrossBow^-
I don't know if everyone else knows or not...but JagFest 2k2 is gonna be held in St. Louis This summer!!! That is pretty dern close to me (Tulsa) however, with a family of 2 very small boys and my single income to the house, I will probably have to skip it. As I understand it...while JagFest focuses mainly on the Jaguar...Lynx and other Atari Classics are usually found there as well. Just something to think about. As for starting up a Classic Gaming Convention of your own...you have to remember that all of them started off small. So to get one going pick a weekend where the weather and such is favorable and see if you can rent out a Moose Lodge...or Church hall...something like that. Charging a small fee for entry to make sure it covers the costs to run the show...and then eventually you can expand it further.
Atari Master
Like I said before. I'm 14...And how many of you people would actually come? Anyhow, I don't understand why the Philly wont come here. New Orleans has a huge convention center(a city block long).
Phosphor Dot Fossils
If it were someplace like Tulsa, OKC, St. Louis, Little Rock, and heck, even Austin sounds good, I'd make an effort to go. At this point, and again income is a huge factor, I couldn't even consider a trip to CGE or PhillyClassic.
+-^CrossBow^-
Well...Tulsa is where I happen to live. You do know that Jagfest 2k2 is in the end of June I believe and it is in St. Louis. I would go but I have family responsibilities which require my attention more. Perhaps in the future I can get some people together...I would love to be able to put something together for Tulsa. Afterall, it is about as central as you can get in the States...and room and board would be pretty cheap here. We at least have some decent places to eat...and there are several classic gamers here that it wouldn't be a total waste. But I haven't the time to organise such an event. At least...not yet. Phosphor Dot Fossils
Tulsa would be the closest to me. If and when the time comes, get in touch - I can do some handy promotional tasks like assembling a TV commercial for the event, any website-building required, and that sort of thing. A Tulsa/OKC classic gaming event would be bliss.
