Room 34
I have just completed my first major 2600 collecting quest... I have at least one copy of all of the carts released by Atari in the pre-silver label era (i.e. all titles prior to SwordQuest EarthWorld, although I of course have a lot of the silver and red carts in my collection too). To me, the "classic" era of the 2600 (to be more accurate, the VCS) has always been Atari's own releases prior to the introduction of the silver labels and the "2600" branding designation. There was just something a bit more... I don't know... "innocent" about that era. I regret that I needed to add something like "Math Gran Prix" to my collection (which I would never really want to own otherwise), but now that I have it, I can say this quest is complete! (Of course... I don't have all of the label variants of every game. I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. I am collecting all six major Space Invaders variants though... I just need silver and I'll be done with that quest too!)
King Atari
Congrats! There's something special about the era before the silver label games. Maybe it's the quality that was put in. The graphics may not be as good, but most of the games are great. Oh, and yes, Math Gran Prix is a piece of garbage.
lionrohrs
Way to go! I was playing some of the "classic" games yesterday and I still love them. Games like Outlaw, Human C-ball, Flag Capture, Sky Diver, Pele's Soccer (I think I injured my hand playing this one!) It's the simplicity of these games that brought me back to playing Atari. Again..Congrats!
ATARIPITBULL
That's sounds great, when it comes to my 2600 game collecting I just buy anything I don't already have in my collection, so there's no real set pattern for me.
MattG/Snyper2099
That's really sweet Room34... I too love the origional text label format for the classic 2600 games. I tend to concentrate on completing companies as I add to my collection and always tend to search for the most interesting label and cart design when doing so. It just keeps everything pretty. :-) Right now I'm working on obtaining the last Zimag and Telesys games I need  .
DuckandCover
A lot of the early VCS carts have a lot of magic for me as well. I still can burn a lot of happy hours on games like Human Cannonball, Flag Capture, Golf, Night Driver, and Video Pinball. Great job! Congratulations! Room 34
man i wish i could have that much i just started and refuse to start on e-bay quite yet Yeah, well, I took the plunge into eBay pretty early. It's "slim pickin's" around here though, so I didn't have much choice. It's definitely the FASTEST way to build a collection but it's sure not the CHEAPEST. I really do not want to figure out how much money I've spent on eBay in the past 2 months! I'm just glad I've offset it by selling off some of my vast CD collection. I have several duplicate copies of certain titles.
