  1. Thanks for the info about it being a first-run, wasnt aware the floppy's differed on the STF and STFM. I really dig the way this one looks. And, hey, you should consider bidding on it -- I don't believe 1040ST's go for sale in Ontario all that often, could be a good backup at a cheap cost to ship! - Peter
  2. Hey everyone, I just put up an auction for a spare 1040STF I have. It is shipping from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Local pickup will also be available so if anyone here is from Ottawa this might be a good auction for them! It includes the 1040STF and an atari brand mouse, the monitor is not included. Thanks! Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...DME:L:LCA:CA:11
  3. Thanks for the tip, no ribbon cables, so guess it is a one meg model! - Peter
  4. Hello, I am trying to figure out how much RAM is on a spare 1040STF i plan on putting on ebay. I realise that they came by default with 1 meg, but it is possible this computer may have been upgraded. I apologise for sounding so ignorant, as I only picked up these ataris a couple days ago. On my MegaSTE I go to DESK --> FREE RAM SIZE. But on the 1040stf, there is nothing similar. I do not have any 720kb disks to use to transfer over external programs. Is there any command I can run to find out how much RAM is included? Or, alternatively, I cracked it open earlier today to clean it out a bit, but most of the system is kept under metal shielding. Where exactly would I look in the machine to figure out how much RAM I have? Thanks! - Peter
  5. Just to let everyone know, a very generous member of comp.sys.atari.st gave me a Atari SM124 monitor today. Everything is working great! Turns out the computer has 4 megs of ram, and a 130 megabyte harddrive. As well, it turns out that it has an HD disk drive! I thought that the STE came standard with a 720kb drive, so I imagine this must have been an upgrade? Also there is a ton of cool music software already loaded on. My last question is if anyone knows where I can download a manual, or at least a good get started guide? Thanks, - Peter
  6. Getting a hold of the 13 pin DIN connector would be real trouble. But, as a last resort i will definetly look into this. I also have a Commodore 1084 monitor, I have read this can be used, but then again it would also require another cable with the bastardly 13 pin DIN. - Peter
  7. Hello, I managed to pick up a Mega STE w/keyboard and mouse, and a 1040ST w/mouse from a Goodwill in Ottawa today for a grand total of $11.50 CAN. I have never used an Atari computer before so please excuse my ignorance, I have wanted to pick one up to use some of the great music software available (Dr. T!) First of all, the Mega STE has a card in the VME slot that says 'Serial 2'. Was this the default card that came with the STE, or was it an expansion, and what can it be used for? Also, I cracked open the STE and noticed that it has all the RAM slots full, does this mean it has 4 megs of ram? I havent been able to test out the computers other than to turn them on to hear things hum, seeing as I don't have a monitor. I was reading on some newsgroups that to use an ST at a high resolution, which is supposedly required by many music packages, one should be using an Atari monochrome monitor. So, i guess this means there is no way to get a cable to hook up a regular monitor, or if it did the quality would not be good enough? Does this mean that an Atari color monitor may not be suitable for this kind of work as well? How hard are the official monitors to find? Perhaps someone on this board is from Ottawa and may have an extra one kicking around? The computers didnt come with any documentation, wondering if anyone can link me to an online version of the manuals for the two computers? Lastly -- I am curious as to how much the Mega STE is worth on today's market. Thanks in advance! - Peter
