  1. Thanks y'all, appreciate the help. Will get a new psu and see if that fixes the problem. I am hopeful and don't think that the system's been damaged.
  2. Hey y'all. New here, mainly because I am having trouble with my 800XL. This system has been in our family since I was born, and I have recently inherited it to add to mine and my girlfriend's collection. It is -pristine-, and I have the cassette, floppy, and printer drive for it (also in immaculate condition). However, when we went to hook it up, it doesn't work. I've been looking for the past few days to find a field service manual, but when I did find it it didn't address the specific issue. When I power on the XL, I get the red 'power' light indicating stuff is fine, but the TV tells me a different story -- I get sometimes rolling/mostly fixed (both horizontal and vertical) white and black bars on the TV, with a lot of noise, occasionally blue, and there are sometimes neon green and grey rhombuses that are in the black bars, and an annoying tone that cuts out intermittently with the rolling picture. I've checked to make sure everything is on the right channels and what have you, tried changing out the Atari TV/Game switcher, tried switching out the actual cable that goes between the atari and the switcher, all to no avail. I cracked it open for the first time in it's life today, and was surprised -- there's very little dust to be expected after 25 years. It looks almost like it's right off the factory shelf. I poked about in there and didn't see that anything had come loose or anything like that. What could be causing this problem, and what are possible solutions? I'm not ready to drop a lot of money for replacement parts until I know what's going on with it. I have included a picture of the TV screen with this post. thank y'all in advance for any help you can give me with this.
