  1. Hello, Both have to fit in your hand and allow a button to be pressed. That will dictate the size and shape to a large degree. Look at modern cars. The Wind-tunnel also will make the shape similar, and other features like lights are required to be a certain size / height for compliance reasons. Regards Chris
  2. Hello, I would like to buy one, but when I had a look a while ago I could specify the Area and TV decoder type. I don't want to buy a wrong item, I would prefer to get my info right and avoid any issues . Does the " other " box give me PAL ? Or does it go into further options when the order has been started ? Thanks Chris
  3. Hello, I found some I had put away, many I bought new in Honkers in the early 80's. Most of the 2nd hand ones I have are missing the battery cover. I had a look on Ebay, the only one I could find was $9.08 Who else has these games, and have you had any luck finding a Battery cover that is a reasonable price ? I have a few spare duplicate Games that I would be happy to swap for Games I dont have, some are a bit rough though, but may have parts needed to restore another. I think I still have the Boxes from the Games I bought in HK, single screen game AU $10 when they were $30 here. Donkey Kong was on Ebay for $260 in a box. Regards Chris
  4. Hello, I can see everyone's point of view, but many components will only work for a certain number of hours. Caps in the deflection circuit for example. In the good old days, a Japanese TV would last 20 years or so. Many Chinese TV's would be lucky to get 5 years. I don't want to start an arguement about this, as it is my opinion only. I used to replace Caps in the deflection circuit 20 years ago in a large computer companies monitors. There was also a " grey scale " monitor that had a tube life of around 12 months. ( burn in was bad ) You do what you feel is right, and everyone else can do what they want. I remember many years ago on a mainframe site it would be powered off over Christmas, on power up there were always many Disk's and fans that would fail. Leaving them on caused less problems. Even Caps in the start circuit for Disk drives would stop them starting. The thermal issues from start / stop are the main reason not to power off IMO. A CRT without sleep mode I would power off when not in use, as with the high voltage inside and with the chance of water leaking in there is a fire risk. ( from a roof leak ) Why is it that when water leaks into an appliance that would be fine when dried, people always turn it when it is wet to " see if it works " Regards Chris
  5. Hello, I have a project in mind, which is to use a better size steering wheel for Atari games. Now I have picked up a cheap condition unknown status wheel, and I want to couple it to a steering control. These produce a pulse output, and will turn 360 deg. If I rubber couple it I should have better feel, and better response. Now the next thought I had was as some games use the Joystick, I want to make a Cam from a cutting board ( soft plastic, will have a smooth feel with a roller tip micro-switch ) to go on the steering shaft. With some Micro switch's it will give the same input to the Atari as a Joystick, and I can use the gear lever ? as a throttle. This means I can run all driving games from the one steering setup with both out-puts available for the different games. I havnt pulled the steering control apart yet, but I hope I can leave the outside looking original. If I make a set-up like this based on a 2600, I will fit a lever over the cartridge, so when you change games it will power off. The X box wheel feels like a reasonable quality item, and there will be plenty about for future use. Thoughts and opinions please ? Regards Chris
  6. Hello, In my opinion, it will still " wear " the tube. By this I mean the heater will age, and as you wind up the brightness to compensate the display will get blurry. And on a different note, an LCD can also get " burn in " Many people are not aware of this either. Regards Chris
  7. Hello, I have placed a Pic in the last Post. I am happy to send them anywhere, but for cheaper Post Aus. would be better. ( for a swap ) Swap or sale at a very reasonable price, either would be fine. Thanks Chris I found another, Imagic no escape. In tidy order, but has been opened as the screws are visible.
  8. Hello, They are loose, and untested. I will try and Post a Pic later, keep in mind we are PAL and I have no idea of if they are rare or good games. I was sorting some stuff out last night and found them. I would much rather swap them than throw them out though. Regards Chris I have uploaded a Pic.
  9. Hello, I have some games that are condition unknown.( unable to test, bought as a Job-lot ) Being in Aus, they may suit a collector here. They are Looping Qbert Gorf Sammy Lightfoot Pepper II Carnival Ladybug Learning Leeper Zaxxon I dont know what they are worth, but I would like them to go to a good home. I would be more interested in swapping them for Atari games rather than selling them, Pac Man being a game I am looking for. I am open to offers, keep in mind that they are games made for the Aus market and OS Post is not cheap. Regards Chris
  10. Hello, I have been looking through my game collection, and was wondering if there were any sold here that were not sold elsewhere ? I would like to set them all up in a box, and then take a Pic to Post so if any are not seen elsewhere I can make them available for duplication. Now as a new member, I havn't read the last 2 years worth of Posts, so please be patient with me if I ask things that may seem like stupid questions. Also, I thought there may have been an Atari cartridge made that took an SD card. This would be great to enable all my favourite games to be on the 1 cartridge. I have an SD card that folds to become a USB stick, Together the pair would be great. Regards Chris
  11. Hello, Thanks for the replies. I will use a spare Lap-top I have, as it will be good on power. It will be run from a solar set-up, and the LCD TV runs from a 12 adapter. I still need to make a list of what games I can run, as most require a Joy-stick, but some wanrt a Steering wheel or Paddle. This is normally printed on the cartridge though. I have seen interface Kits for the controls, but I have in the past used an old PC Keyboard and soldered wires from external switch's to the KBD to interface external things rather than using keystrokes. I have only had a quick look for Info, and trial of Stella. Does it replicate all of the Atari functions correctly on a PC ? Thanks Chris
  12. Hello, I am after some opinions, but first would like to say hello to everyone. Some time ago, ( 30 years ) we all went to a local club on a Saturday night, which had a room full of games. It was great fun, and our girlfriends enjoyed the outing also. Since then I have wanted to build a games table like we all used to play there. Now the 2600 games were simple and fun, many I have on the original cartridge's and I have also tried Stella. My decision is to either use a 2600 with an AV output and other mods, or use a Laptop PC with Stella. I will build a table with a glass top, LCD TV underneath and use commercial grade buttons and Joysticks. Many games dont seem to run on Stella, but I can do a lot more with a PC as the base of the unit. I would like to put in in my weekend "shack " in the Aussie bush, for simple fun of an evening. Cold nights in winter come to mind here. I may have to use both though, what do all of the Forum Members think would be the best choice and why ? Thanks Chris
