  1. Hey all! I recently purchased an Intellivision flashback on ebay and one of the controllers doesn't completely work. The down area on the disc tends to either not do anything, or trigger the right side of the disc. The number 1-2 buttons also do not work at all. I've done a general cleaning with alchohol and tested the continuity of the solder points on the green board at the top of the controller. I'm finding very little specifics on how the controller works and I'm kind of at a loss as to what could prevent some of the functions from working (including a possible short in the disc if it's triggering wrong directions). Has anyone had any experience working on these or fixing them? I've attached a photo of what the inside looks like in case someone spots something that I missed.
  2. I might as well open it up and see I suppose. At this point, all signs point to the RF box anyways so I don't have anything to lose
  3. This is exactly what is happening. I can tell something is trying at least so this must be it. I was hoping for a way to test it, but I figured this was just a component that needed replacing. I found a used one on ebay, but they mention having to adjust picture and sound with it which is beyond my understanding at the moment. Thanks for the confirmation! Edit: Forgot to mention the INTV Funhouse had a link to Alltronics where they used to sell the part, but it looks like it's no longer available
  4. Hey all! I've been trying to find out what is wrong with an Intellivision 1 that I purchased in a lot recently. When I turn on the Intellivision on ch 3 or 4, the "snow" is still there, although I do notice there is a bit of a change in the pattern. I do not see the title screen of the games that I test with though. I'm trying to figure out what component isn't working properly here, but I'm not exactly sure if there's any further steps I can take without replacing parts. I'm using a known good cable, tv and game (tested on my working Intellivision). I've tested the power transformer and the power supply board to logic board voltages and all are within the specs given following intvfunhouse's FAQ (here). I'm assuming my next step is to see if something is wrong with the RF modulator, but I'm not sure if it's a testable unit without just buying a replacement. Has anyone else had this no video issue and found a fix? Is there a way to test the RF modulator without buying a replacement?
  5. No I haven't. I don't have any wire around to easily test that right now. my thought is that if one part of the board is outputting the proper amount, it wouldn't matter if it all was or not for the purposes for figuring out if the transformer is bad or not. I could be wrong of course
  6. You are right that the transformer and power supply are different types. The transformer is AC, while the power supply is DC. I did double check to make sure I was measuring the correct type at the right place. I completely forgot to add that to my original post. I guess that's what I get for rushing before I head out for work
  7. I'm trying to figure out if I have multiple bad transformers or not. I have three Intellivision I systems that are broken/for parts. I decided to sit down and try to figure out what is wrong with the repairable ones. My first go to was the transformer for each. I think I'm getting odd readings when testing them with my multimeter though. Each transformer (all three systems) show 1.5v when I test the blue and yellow wire. From what I found, it should be about 18v. I can't remember what the other wires show for voltage, but they're all low. I would chalk it up to bad transformer, but I found it odd that all three have the exact same low voltage on all the wires. I tried it with another multimeter, and came up with the same results. I then tested the leads from the power supply to the main board that stick out in the direction of the main board and cartridge slot and showed that all three systems are outputting 12v. It may be my amateur skills and limited knowledge showing here, but if the power supply is showing the correct voltage doesn't that mean that the transformer is outputting enough power to run the system? Am I way off on my thinking?
  8. I've never used the manual fire option with this game. I've been able to get pretty good scores that way, but sometimes it does leave you a little vulnerable at the high speeds. It's probably just a personal preference thing.
  9. Success!! I tried the female coax to male rf adapter and a new shielded coax cable and the picture is crystal clear. Thanks for all the help!
  10. My computer keeps eating my replies so a quick one from the phone will have to do. First, tharnks for all the tips! I'm going to try the adapter first. If that doesn't work, I'll move on from there. I'll post back once I get the adapter.
  11. First of all, thank you for all of your replies! I have this connected right before my filter. I think it's the first thing I bought for the Intellivision after getting the system itself . Getting a signal and being able to play are two different things, as I proved to myself by trying the NES adapter . I could see the title card was up, but couldn't really read anything. It would be unplayable without having memorize the game to the point of being able to play blindfolded. For some reason my mind didn't even consider this as a possibility. I'm going to try this out and post back with my results. Were the INTV III systems poorer quality that the others? I'll admit that I prefer the controllers on the Intellivision I, but I like the power light on the INTV III. Just a odd little quick I guess .
  12. This has become a more interesting topic than I thought it would be! I thought I would include a pic of my connection to the tv to help rule things out (the connection to the Inty is a standard RF connector). I have this on there before the filter. I really didn't get much to speak of. I could tell that the title card was up, but really couldn't read anything. I'll admit, it was a long shot and I just happened to have one laying around. Free and easily available beats out other options sometimes Were the Intv III systems of lesser quality? I'll admit that I like the Intelivision I the most due to the controllers, but I like having a power light on the INTV III. Don't know why, I just do. One of my many quirks . For some reason I never thought of this. I remember hearing that RF cables can pick up interference easily (hence my filter which did very little, but didn't hurt either). I do have a lot of power interference around my house. Enough to disrupt over the air signals and whatnot, so that may be the problem more so than most others. I'm going to try this out and post back what happens. Thanks for the tips so far! Now to see if Radioshack actually has those adapters in stock. I'm not holding my breath though.
  13. So like many others, I'm having troubles getting a good picture from my Intellivision and I'm looking for some advice as to what to do to fix it. My system is a Intv System III using a rf cable with a coax adapter and a radio shack rf interferance filter to a Samsung TV. I've attached a photo to what the picture looks like. I tried an old NES rf adapter and the picture got worse. I also tried channel 3 and 4 with little difference. Multiple games show the same kind of picture. I'm starting to think it's the system itself, but I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting there. Does anyone have and other ideas or tips for me?
