  1. In Baseball, it is. But in some other games, it's other sprites that seem corrupted. Sometimes it's even the text so it makes it hard to read. I remember having a hard time playing Treasure of Tarmin because I couldn't tell what the items were.
  2. Hey guys, been a while since I posted... ...Came across an Intellivision III that works for the most part. (Still can't get Intellivoice to work.) However, on all of the games I try, there is some type of sprite corruption. I've attached a screen of Baseball which shows it quite well. I tried searching and couldn't find anything about this issue, but this may be a n00b question anyway. I've blown compressed air in it, but is this something that I just need to break it down and clean the insides? Or is this a problem that can't be fixed by just cleaning? Is there something specific I should look at? Never taken an INTV down before. Thanks. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just couldn't find anything about sprite corruption in my searches.
  3. Hey guys, I don't pimp my stuff here all that often, but I figured this would be of some interest to the community here. I do a gaming podcast (The Bobby Blackwolf Show on All Games Radio) and I try to cover the oldschool scene when I can around the more recent news, and I was at VGXPO broadcasting several events straight from the show floor. One of these events was the surprise ATARI keynote discussing their embrace of this community. I have placed the entire keynote (about 20 minutes worth) with Chris Bergstresser, Ian Sharpe, and Alex "LX" Rudis unedited on my podcast feed as a part of my latest episode. It begins at 33 minutes in - the first 33 minutes is the trivia game show I hosted at VGXPO, the All Games Radio Trivia Challenge, which you are more than welcome to listen to and see if you can answer Classics for $400. The official episode page is here. The MP3 download is here. Thanks for letting me pimp my show here when it's relevant. It was great to see everyone again and to meet Curt in person - soon we'll have him on to talk about Awesome Arcades and the next Atari project!
  4. Now I feel stupid. :/ Sorry. So scratch my second paragraph. :> Makes me wish I knew more about Genesis/MD stuff.
  5. First production run is 600, if that gives you any indication of future rarity. They are releasing it in the clamshell case and a 27-page full color instruction booklet. They have all the licenses for the game in the US from C&E (they are very good business partners with C&E) and they also have secured all U.S. Copyrights for the game. The cartridge is also running on a custom board that makes it region free for NTSC and PAL, and they have been testing it on all versions of the Genesis and Megadrive.
  6. Hey guys. I don't self-promote my gaming podcast in here often - only when I cover something that pertains to this community. In the past I ran a two part interview with Curt Vendel about the Atari Flashback 2 and I was asked to post if I had anything new... ...Well, I do. I interviewed Brandon Cobb, President of Super Fighter Team and Project Manager for Beggar Prince on last night's show, asking a lot of questions that people had on their minds about financing, licensing, and development. You can grab it off of our official website or just download the direct MP3 (22MB) and go to the 24:05 minute mark to get to the classic gaming content. (You can also subscribe to us in iTunes.) I've also preordered the game myself and will have a review of it on my show after it comes out. Hope you guys don't mind the self-promotion. I promise I won't do it often. :>
  7. Yeah, I did the Bemani table at PC5 from my personal collection.
  8. Heh, I was just about to come in here to link it, and I notice it's already linked! Hope it had a little bit of info that was interesting to this community. The Flashback segment begins at the 13:20 minute mark, but that's when I start introducing the segment, and after the interview I do give some of my honest opinions of the Flashback 2 that I purchased late last week (as well as giving a plug for AtariAge!) Thanks for listening guys, I hope to have some more retro content in the future.
  9. Hey guys! I'm not very good at pimping my own stuff but I wanted to let you guys know of an interview my podcast is currently running. I do a weekly internet radio show (and podcast) creatively titled The Bobby Blackwolf Show where we discuss the latest news and trends in the gaming industry, as well as reminiscing about gaming's history. I've always wanted to do MORE regarding classic gaming, but I admit that so far I haven't done too well on that front. (We interviewed The Brothers Chaps from Homestar Runner and I grilled them about Paul Slocum's Homestar Runner RPG, though!) To make up for the lack of coverage, I'm airing (in it's entirety) a two part interview with Curt Vendel, which runs about 36 minutes total, discussing the Atari Flashback, Atari Flashback 2, and AtariMuseum.com. It's been really interesting for me and my listeners and it's quite evident that Curt is VERY passionate about keeping the memory of Atari alive through these projects. While some of what he discusses may not be news to THIS community, I think it's a fascinating tale of how the Flashbacks came to be. The first part of the interview, 19 minutes long, was aired on the October 9th show (that's an mp3) and begins at roughly the 24 minute mark. This is where he discusses the backstory of the Flashback, what went right and what went wrong in both consoles, and what games were chosen and why. The second part of the interview will be aired on the upcoming Sunday night show, with the archive available by the Monday morning commute. This is where he discusses things like the engineering behind getting the 2600 on a chip, and about the cartridge port modification. I was really honored that Curt took time out of his Saturday afternoon to record this interview with us, and I hope that you guys enjoy it. I'll update this thread with a link to part two after I air it. I'd love to do some more content geared towards classic gaming enthusiasts, because I have my 2600 and Intellivision hooked up to my TV right next to my Xbox and PS2 (and about 7 consoles chronologically in between) such as interviewing homebrew developers...If anyone has any suggestions as to what they'd like to hear covered, post them here and I'll do my best to cover them! Thanks for your time. I promise I won't pimp my stuff here unless there's something of value to this community. :>
  10. Yeah, I'm over there too asking around. I have cards with UART mode so I'm not totally SOL, but the patch only works for Sierra games, not for the Lucasfilm or Origin games.
  11. WTB Roland MPU-401, MPU-401/AT, MPU-IPC, MPU-IPC-T or equivalent I'm trying to get an ISA card for my classic box that has MPU-401 Intelligent Mode. Most cards out there have MPU-401 UART Mode, and I don't need that. I recently acquired (after 17 years of whining, kicking, and screaming to my parents for wanting one) a Roland MT-32 Sound Module for all of those classic Sierra and Lucasfilm adventure games, and I want to be able to use it the way it was intended - unfortunately I need the actual interface card that these games support. A Roland SCC-1 will also work. I just got sniped out of one today, and there are no other cards on eBay that fit the description (either up now or completed.) I also need to make sure they have the mini DIN cables. (If you actually have these cards, you know what those are.) NO LONGER NEEDED: I got my hands on an MPU-IPC and it works great. Thanks!
  12. Yes, tonight is the episode with the PC5 footage. 10PM Eastern is the first showing. They're shooting the episode right now, so the synopsis probably won't be put up until they're done. (They film Pulse on Friday mornings in Los Angeles.)
  13. One of the places that surprised me is that it runs almost fine on PocketVCS on my PocketPC - the sound kinda stutters and the new demo is a little bit more flickery than the old demo, but it's still nice. It's great to be able to pull my PocketPC out and show my H*R fan friends that there's a 2600 game being made, and they don't believe me. :>
  14. From what I could tell talking with the G4 people, they were in Philadelphia for part of the week AFTER PC5 to film other segments. Patrick Clark (the tall guy in the bad 80's style outfit interviewing people) is also the segment producer for PC5, and got a LOT of footage. The story on PC4 last year was...not too good, and it was produced by someone who didn't "get it". (I actually knew the guy who did the segment, and he was like "PC4 looked boring. All these people just playing classic video games, who cares?") Patrick "gets it", and wants to give the PC5 segment justice - and hammering it out in 2 or 3 days would NOT have given it justice. Even last year, the PC4 segment was about two weeks after PC4, so I wouldn't be surprised if you see it next week. They really are trying to give PC5 the coverage it deserves, and I'm all for them taking an extra week to edit the segment together. And for those wondering (who don't watch Pulse) - Patrick Clark's schtick is to wear the ugliest, stupidest outfit ever to try to "fit in" with the crowd. That's why his fashion looked so horrible - he'll play on that for humor during the segment. When he went to the release party of American Pro Trucker, he wore the brightest trucker clothes and a fake moustache...At least he wasn't that bad at PC5! EDIT: Just heard from Gavin, Pulse's producer:
  15. The only media I saw at PC5 were G4, GMR Magazine (albiet rather informally) and the Philadelpha Inquirer, which focused on the Joychix booth.
