  1. Yeah think I will, going to have a closer look tomorrow to check the other caps. Is it work trying to tidy up the joints on the adapter socket do you think? I know they are fiddly and can cause more issues if messed with, there is no real side movement on it so if the cap and cable replacement works I might just hot glue it as it is? Will let you know how it goes. Thanks Stylee
  2. Ok so I picked up a second Lynx 1 no power unit for the princely sum of £8, thought it was worth taking a punt if for nothing more than a few spare parts, before opening it I thought it may just be a dodgy MOS but upon opening it I relised that this unit has been through the wars. The question as the title suggests is do I attempt a repair or let it go to that gameshop in the sky Upon opening I found the neg cable from the battery back to the Board was broken off at both ends, it looks like someone may have tried to solder it back on judging by the flux on the joints. there was also a little red residue on the board between the screen / below tp18 and tp13. Also this is a popped cap and some dry joints/poor soldering around batt to board and adapter socket. so what you guys think
  3. Hi Stardust, Would this potentially happen if someone had replaced the MOS or another component with the wrong replacement part? My curiosity is getting the better of me
  4. hi bdoi, im quite new here but from what i can gather it sounds like the MOSFET is being bypassed by a cable running from the bat - to the headphone GND on the board, could be the previous owner did it to get the system running again as this would result in the system powering up as soon as a power source is available circumventing the power switch but i could be wrong. does the same thing happen with batteries? Im sure someone here will point you in the right direction, some of the guys here know these consoles inside out
  5. Cheers True As luck would have it I picked up a fixer upper yesterday for £15 delivered, the unit cosmetically is almost perfect. Its a DOA unit but from what the guy has been telling me it looks like a MOSFET problem, as soon as it lands I am going to test it. I thought at that price though it was worth having for spare parts and a potential case transplant If it works once the MOS has been replaced I will probably put that in my collection and sell my other unit as a friend wants one
  6. silly question, does this diagnostic using Headphone GND to Batt - work on the Lynx1? I know someone mentioned it is Q11 on the Lynx1 but not sure if this is the same test. A workmate has a Lynx1 which is dead, might get him to bring it in to test also can you perform this powering the unit off batteries?
  7. cheers BadPricey, will check it out
  8. Thanks Cowdog Just had a look all three look great, unfortunatley I am in the UK so after customes and shipping it would be quite expensive
  9. thanks Stargunner, I got the original Lynx which has a light spot of paint fade, will try to restore this one to its original state with the addition of a mcwills screen mod for my collection. I am looking at buying a fixer upper too and doing something a little different after refurbing it, maybe with hydro graphics on the outter shell in matt black or carbon fiber. only toying with the idea though at the moment. thanks for the tip will let you know how it goes
  10. Hi all, Just thought I would pop in and say a brief hello as I am new to the forum. I owned a Lynx 1 back in 1990 and decided to get myself one again. To be fair I got it at a bargain price and it is in very good working order however I am going to overhaul it with a cap replacement kit and hopefully will upgrade the screen as I see many of you have done using McWills kit Will let you know how I get on, also looking at doing some case restoration as there are a few parts on the back that are looking a little tired. Has anyone done anything like this yet and if so how would they recommend going about this? Looking forward to reading more, All the best Stylee
