  1. I'm moving soon & trying to decide which retro consoles to hang on to & which to sell. When I play these days, it's almost entirely emulation, but there are an awful lot of hassles when it comes to mapping controllers & setting up 2-player head-2-head games. Anyway, it's a little dusty, but I have a really nice 2600 "Darth Vader" model with controllers, a few games, etc. I'm curious about what kind of a premium this version actually might bring, and if it's really worth enough money to sell or if I should keep it around for the once in a blue moon grudge match with my old neighbor. It may be the one console I want to keep; still not 100% sure, and eBay is kinda worthless these days for really getting a market value. Curious to hear some thoughts about its rarity & desirability. Thank you.
  2. I just managed to get the adapter working so I could use my old school joystick with OpenEMU/Stella to play a quick round of Decathlon 2600-style....The muscle memory is still there, but I stopped playing before the cramp-inducing 1500m. I totally had this glove, and recall having to send a Polaroid of my high score with the order form to receive it. Just like anything in this category, its value is how much someone is willing to pay for the pure nostalgia factor...maybe even a little extra for this item in light of Bruce Jenner's more recent fame. As fun as it is to recall the memory though, it's probably not near the top of the list of collectibles I'd spend money on. Of course I'm not one of those people with a ton of extra money burning a hole in my pocket or limitless space for tchotchkes. If I was one of those people, I might have one framed & displayed in my game room.
  3. I've been having much more success with my PS4 Dual Shock. But that doesn't cut it for most games, and I still have the 2-player problem. It's definitely a software problem, but I can't figure it out. I can also use the NES Advantage with a Nintendo adapter no problem. I think I'm just going to have to set up the original hardware & see how that goes.
  4. Maybe I'm approaching this from the wrong direction then... My problem is figuring out how to shut off the recognition of any more than a single button ... The joystick seems to be recognized no problem, maybe there's a way to set up VICE or Virtual64 so that moving the stick doesn't shoot. I also have a C64 Mini that's collecting dust because of the same problem. I bought it with the hope that I wouldn't have to deal with stuff like this, but also never could have expected the included joystick to be so completely unusable. if I can't use this & similar original joysticks AND support 2-player gaming, there's just no fun in it for me.
  5. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious or missed something in this very old thread that answers my question...but I've been trying to get one of these to work with C-64 emulators and can't seem to decouple the "FIRE" function from the joystick. When I move in any one direction (depending on the mapping), the "FIRE" button is also triggered. This problem doesn't seem to affect Atari emulators. Maybe this is the entire topic - the two-button support that became necessary during the later years of the Commodore, but I sorta have to skim past the super nerdy stuff because I'm not one who would consider attempting to bust out the soldering iron or roll together any kind of custom solution. What I need is a new adapter or some kind of device that'll allow me to use my old Epyx joystick with C-64 emulators like Vice or Virtual64. My next option will be to resurrect the original hardware, and that's something I'd prefer to avoid if at all possible. I did just come across this site & reached out to its creator ... seems like it addresses the problem I'm running into...
  6. I had one of these for sure. I recall sending away for the glove after achieving a high score in one of the events...I'm not totally certain of the event, but I'm choosing to believe it was not the Pole Vault or a high score reached because of the now well-documented "Pole Vault bug". I followed the instructions, which included taking a photo of my TV screen (which I did using my "Kodak Disc", and of course came out terribly), along with a couple of bucks for shipping & mailed off the form I tore out of some magazine. I actually used the glove for games that required that awful unnatural back & forth movement to run...regardless of your technique, it was really a contest to see who's wrist would cramp up first. For this motion, the Epyx joystick was far superior to the stock Atari controllers. I just came across this thread after finally breaking my beloved Epyx 500XJ joystick. This is the one we always argued over before a heated round of any of those classic Epyx games - Summer/Winter/California Games..back when 'Multiplayer' meant gathering a few friends on a rainy/cold winter afternoon (many of those games could accept up to 8 players!) & competing for bragging rights & 8-bit gold medals. Decathlon really started it all. I glued it once, but now I think it's finally done. I can't really complain - I can't think of too many other things I have since '84 that still function! Anyone know where I can get a replacement without breaking the bank!?
