Actually... I haven't repaired the real console yet. :ponder:

The chips aren't socketed, so I had to order sockets (should be arriving today or tomorrow), then I have to desolder the chips, add the sockets, then I can swap chips out with another 2600 (a Vader, in fact) and see what's up. Of course after all that, I'm expecting it to be a capacitor.

It may be a lot of work but it's well worth keeping your original alive. I sure wish I still had mine... damn Mom giving it away behind my back my senior year of high school!

Well, I desoldered the chips, installed the sockets, and swapped out the chips with a Vader.

Just swapping them one at a time, it appears the TIA is probably okay, as it works in the Vader, albeit with incorrect colors (not sure if that's typical, given that the revision number on the chip is different).

But neither the CO10745 nor CO10750 work in the Vader, and moving the Vader's chips to the sixer still don't fix it. So something else blew up as well, and at this point, I'm not sure where to look for the cause. I'm open to suggestions. I'm also half-tempted to just drop a new motherboard in there, but that seems a little defeatist (and cheatish). :(

I also removed the S-video mod (in case that was part of the problem) and unfortunately, broke one of the ridiculously-long-pins off the mod board in the process. :x So now I have to repair that too, once I get the console working again.

But right now, I just want my kitchen table back, so I think I'll put all this stuff away.
