Bowling for the 2600

So, I took the modded 2600 that I bought from kielbaca and brought it up to my brother. He was thrilled and kept telling me about how much he missed playing Atari and such. He played a few rounds of Chopper Command and remarked at how terrible he was at it. He used to be really good but since he hasn't played for years, it shows. Then, we moved on to play 2600 Bowling. We played 7 games of it and he barely came out on top, 4 games to 3. We played some very competitive games and he couldn't believ

About a girl

I don't normally talk about stuff like this, but I've been talking to a nice girl(or so I think) online for a while now and she's kinda starting to grow on me. We talk everyday and even play Yahoo Pool and all. It's kind of fun and she's really intelligent and all. However, I've asked her a few times if she'd like to meet for a date and she just avoids the question or says that she's scared of meeting people offline. I really don't want to ruin it so I don't plan on asking her again. However, it

Spitfire Attack for the 2600

I was wondering, why exactly do I like this game? What's so special about it? It's a simple game indeed. You are at the helm of a fighter jet I believe and your goal is to shoot down as many other jets as you can without getting shot down yourself. The game can be very tricky into the later levels, as the enemy jets scroll from either the left or the right of the screen. You need to have sharp reflexes or else, you'll be shot down in no time. You do not get any bonus jets so if you lose one, you

The joys of an A/V modded 2600

Today, I received a modded 2600 that I purchased from Keilbaca for my brother. My brother expressed an interest in the 2600 once again so I decided to do this. Anyway, at first, the 2600 wouldn't come on. I had to PM Keilbaca back and forth until I could get the 2600 to work again. I had to take it apart as well. It wasn't fun but once it worked, I was thrilled. The video quality is very good. I ran the 2600 on both my Commodore 1702 monitor and a 19" TV that has A/V input jacks. Very, very nice

Two less people at work

I came into work today only to learn that two of my co-workers were both let go by the company. I wasn't happy about one of them being let go. This guy was really cool and all and he tried to give me advice on women and all. He says that he was a roadie for a Grateful Dead cover band and that he once went to NYC with the band to meet women, etc. Randy is probably one of the coolest co-workers I ever had and now he's gone. Poof. All because of a background check that revealed something about him.

How I got into Atari

When I was a young boy, my dad wasn't always home for my brother or I. He worked long hours as an engineer at GE and we usually only saw him on weekends because he worked the 2nd or 3rd shift most of the time. Anyway, one day he brought home a boxed 2600 and a few games. He'd hook them up to the old Zenith TV that we had and we would have a blast playing games like Trick Shot, Chopper Command, Eggomania, Kaboom, E.T and Bowling. It was always fun to play Atari with Dad and that's something my br

Still tired...

I went in to work today but I didn't stay very long. Didn't even bother to punch in. I had realized that the building I was supposed to clean was locked and I didn't have the key. Also, I would probably be the only one there to work as well. It was a very rough week last week with all those hours I put in. I just wanted to go home and sleep so that's what I did. I might have forgotten to close one of the overheads but I'm not too sure. If I'm lucky, the other cleaner probably came in. I hope. I

My parents and computers...

My mom decided last month that she was interested in starting her own business to sell crafts. The challenging part for my parents was figuring out just HOW to do such a thing. So, they bought a brand new Dell computer, hooked it up to DSL and my mom started an EBay account. She still hasn't sold anything yet, but it is a good learning experience for her. She seems willing to learn new things in order to be able to make money off her creations. My father on the other end, has a dislike for compu

Please kill me...lol

I'm so fucking tired from 4 days of working overtime. I started on Tuesday by getting 13 hours and then I got 14 hours on Wednesday. Yesterday, I pulled 17 hours and today I just barely got 13 hours. A ton of overtime, not to mention 2 regular 8 hour days for a total of 6 days and about 75 hours. Damn. I'm going to take an extra day off next week to recover from this. The good news is, we won't be this busy again until December. I'll also have more time to plan stuff like cleaning up my apt afte

Exhausted

Damn. I worked 13.5 hours today and I am nearly ready to hit the sack. It was interesting though because whenever we get a lot of overtime, my dept seems to work better together. We do slack off a bit but mostly, we do everything that we can possibly do to stay busy. Had to help one of my co-workers unload a trailer full of trash bags, since our compactor still hasn't arrived. Talk about a group effort. Had a really good talk with my boss this morning and he was telling me about how the system o

Stuff on my mind

Sometimes while I work, I often have many different thoughts that I feel are pretty hard to capture on paper. Lately, I've been thinking about how and when I first got interested in the political process. I know that politics aren't a popular topic nowadays. However, I see things as being serious, that one cannot afford to overlook what is going on with our government nowadays.I first became interested in politics when I read about the WTO protests back in 1999. Before that, I hadn't given much

Socialization 101

I've been pretty concerned about how I'm going to get back into socializing with others. I find myself longing to have a group of close knit friends to hang with and do things with. However, I don't think it's easy to find such a thing anymore. I used to have such a group of folks to hang with. We'd go bowling and to clubs and stuff like that. It was nice but eventually, everyone moved on and did their own little things. It really sucks but I'm confident that I can find such a thing again. Not w

I'm back online

My cable modem kept crapping out and it stopped working yesterday. I called the cable company and after some haggling, managed to get them to set up an appointment for today to fix the problem. The repairman just left and I'm back online. I got a new modem and the repairman replaced a few components that were starting to go. It was kind of awkward NOT to be online but I rented "Napoleon Dynamite" and caught up on some homework while I was offline. At least all my homework is done and ready to su

Car troubles

My car's been acting really weird lately. I had it looked at on last Friday and the ignition switch was replaced because I thought that was the problem. It turns out that the problem is much worse. While driving to work today, I stopped to get some gas. After filling up, I attempted to start the car and nothing happened. So, I had to call AAA and have them call a flatbed. I had the car towed to a service station 2 and 1/2 miles from where it broke down. It turns out that the car has an oil leak s

I don't get people sometimes..

One thing I really don't get about people is how sometimes they move on with their lives and leave everyone behind. I have a friend or two who did moved on with their lives and cut off everyone they knew. It may have seemed like a good idea, but it makes me feel like shit sometimes. I mean, I really cared about those friends and when they chose to move on and pretend that I didn't exist, It really ate at me from the inside. Oh well. I guess you can't really do anything about it. All I know is th

Peak time at work

I just learned today that next week, I will be expected to work 12 hour days and possibly work on one of my days off. I'm not really excited about this, but it could mean that I will get a much bigger check. I also heard that we are getting $2 more on top of our hourly wages for all of next week. I'm pumped and primed for what's sure to be another "peak hell". Work is expected to ramp up by the end of this week as more people pour in to help keep the shipping lines going for Mother's Day. I'm pl

The importance of having friends

One thing I've never been able to get about people, is how they just don't consider me approachable at work. I have been a dick in the past with some people and I've tried to make amends by putting on a smile whenever possible and stuff like this. I never thought I'd give a shit about making friends at work, but I realize that it's pretty lonely without any. Also, there are plenty of cool people where I work and I want them to feel comfortable about approaching me. I'm just not sure how to conve

Rainy days

The old adage, "April showers bring May flowers" may just hold true as today has been quite dreary and cold. Rainy days always seem to make me sleepier than usual and very bored too. I already miss the 70 degree weather that we had last Monday. I hope that it comes back for the long run.I didn't feel like doing any of my homework, since all of it is due the first week of May. I don't have much left so I could always wrap it up next weekend and still have enough time to submit it. Not too worried

My brother

Let me just tell you a thing or two about my brother. We've been really close for years and shit. We've fought similar battles in life and lived to tell about it. Lately, with all the good shit that's been happening in my life, I've come to influence people a lot lately. As much as I care about my brother, he's been through hell the past 5 years. He's on probation and all. Anyway, we had a long talk after he and my mom got in a really heated argument. Normally, I don't share personal things on h

Cars

I'd like to talk about how I got into driving. I'll take you all back to the fall of 2000. When I was practicing for my driver's license, I used my dad's beat up '88 Reliant K wagon for practice. That poor car. While I didn't get in any accidents, I did back it up on a curb, further incensing my father. He got frustrated enough and so I gave him some of the money I saved and he gave me some of his and I bought my first car ever, a 1985 VW Golf. It was tan/gold and an automatic. It had the little

Sandinista

I swear, this is the only album I've been listening to at work recently while cleaning toliets and other crap. I love the 2nd disc(it's a 2 disc series) because I feel it has the best songs of the whole album. I don't know, but listening to this album makes me feel like I'm 19 again. It just does. I never really liked it when I bought it a few years ago. However, when I listen to everything else in my collection of Clash stuff, it pales in comparision to the Sandinista album. In this album, you

It's getting busier

Things are starting to pick up where I work and I don't know if I'm gonna make it out alive. Having survived two peak periods and about to go into a third peak period, I can safely say that I think I will get by ok. It all depends on if we hire another custodian or not. In regards to my weight loss, it's still continuing. My weight keeps hovering at 248-250lbs now and I think by the end of the week, I'll be down at 245 or less. Got to knock off that extra weight and get down to 200. One of the d

Random thoughts of the day

Hmm. Let's see about today. It was a regular day at work I suppose. I did the usual crap that I do and put up with the usual crap that I was given. Nothing new there. I've decided to jump back into writing prose so I wrote a little "Ode to Facilities" with the names of my co-workers in it. A little jingle if you will about how we're all honest folks, etc. I think I'm going to fill up another book with prose (or songs) about stuff that bugs me. I have a book that has 3 years of material in it. My
