Dreamcast game thoughts - part 1

So I finally decided to get a Dreamcast again. This was after seeing some Dreamcast game I've never seen before sitting on a shelf in a used video game store. I got it with the intent of buying a Dreamcast. So I went to another used video game store and they had a Dreamcast. 2 in fact. i got the one that worked. Lucky for me, we decided to try them out first. It didn't come with a power cord, but I thought and told the guy, maybe some other console's power cord would work. He said it looked like a PS2 thing, so he got a PS2 power cord from out back and voila. It worked. The top is yellowed, but it works. So here are my little thoughts on the three games I got yesterday (1/4/14)

The Grinch - looks OK, was intrigued by the promise of minigames on the box, but there weren't any. I wonder if that's false advertising and a suable offense. Anyway, without a VMU, I wasn't able to save any progress on any of these, so I didn't play them very much. From what I've played, it looks to be like Luigi's Mansion, with missions to complete, though not as scary. Gotta love the not very many polygon based Grinch.

Magforce Racing - Cover looked a lot like Wip3out, so I got it. And yes, it is a lot like Wip3out, with futuristic racers in a futuristic world, but I never did get the hang of it and placed 5th in my first attempt and 4th on my second attempt. Wondered why the car wasn't moving until I figured out that acceleration was the right shoulder button. (Huh?) You can change it, though. The game didn't want to work at first, instead sending me to the Dreamcast menu. Worked after a couple more tries.

Disney's Magical Racing Tour - Title sounds a lot like the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour. Anyway, this game didn't really have a single race with other people. I guess you have to choose Adventure mode, which sounds like Diddy Kong Racing. So I just did Time Trials, and based on this, I got used to the controls, but probably won't delve into this game without a VMU.

So, in Salem, there seems to be 3 places to get Dreamcast games. South Salem's Game Crazy doesn't carry any (yet still has X-Box and GC games. Go figure.) I got the system and first two games at the GameStar location in S. Salem (I learned that there is another GameStar location on Lancaster. I will have to go see what that is like.) And the last game I got at BuyBack$ (the only location in the entire state. Don't I feel lucky? ;)) I'll have to get a few more games next weekend and then report on them. Unless you have any for sale...
