What I've been up to
I hesitate to post a blog entry but I know a few people here have some interest in knowing what's going on in my life beyond classic gaming, so I'll offer this update.
Last summer I freaked out because Xtranormal went out of business and I thought that was my E-ticket ride to a career-change. Well, here we are entering the following summer, and even though I helped with the liquidation, I don't have a job with the buyer, so I dragged my tail between my legs and I have another web dev job to pay the bills. However, I wanted to mark the 4 years of effort I put towards Xtranormal extensions. So I put two long months of effort into producing this video. I don't expect people on AA to understand the layers of symbolism that I threw in here. Last time I shared some of my work someone said something like "So big deal. You're circuit-bending the speak n spell" or something of that nature. That hurt. When you work as a one-man band, you don't have the benefit of a bunch of voice-actors. So TTS voices are a necessary evil. I'd like to think there's a skill to getting the most out of them, but it tends to divide people into two camps, those who just immediately want to ram an ice-pick through their ears and those who actually can go with the flow.
So here is what I did.
I'm now going to proceed to attempt a weekly sitcom, with relatively full-length (10+ minutes per episode) and fully produced with music, titles, etc... To do this, I have to hit the ground running. There's never any script or storyboard. Just a mental story outline that then gets immediately filled in. That's why I think this is an exciting technology which a bright future.
Again, I don't expect many people to see in this what I see, but just wanted to fill in the people who occasionally check my blog.
