Hi there!
I never saw the movie, but I always liked the Sega game. The U.S. Gold one here... not so much:
Good old Michael Jackson... I've never been a really big fan of his music, but I actually do have "Bad" on vinyl. There's some pretty good music on it. I like some more of his songs, like Billy Jean, but overall I don't ever thought of him as the King of Pop or so. Even in his prime time I always preferred Prince.
So I never saw Moonwalker. Like e.g. the Super Mario Bros. movie or Blues Brothers 2000 it was so obviously total trash, you don't have to see it to believe it. The actual surprise though was the Genesis game from Sega themselves I think. That was pretty cool, especially with the dancing Zombies
Okay, time to return to the game at hands. Going by the classic movie tie-in formula for video games, it's split into 4 separate parts, which are all most likely inspired by the movie. The first two are driving missions, which, reduced to their core, could be considered Pac-Man variants. The third part (pictured above) sees Michael going after his enemies Capone style with a tommy gun and the third is a single screen crosshair shooter.
The game is no total disaster, but clearly below average and also very easy. After seeing Michael transform into a Transformer for the final stage first, he then transforms into a space shuttle for the end sequence:
Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another movie-inspired game in the form of "Die Hard", but first it'll continue with something else.
Greetings,
Manuel
