  1. reason why i got silent for 2 years are simple - i do not work from home office anymore, and when i finally get back home i'm tired and unable to take another "shift" and carry on with atari projects this is the same board that was assembled 2 years ago and put on the shelf i took some time off and put some work into it i wish that employers would understand that you don't need to go to the office to work, and people are not born to spend half of their life sitting in the office uh huh?! i just got "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by ReDefine-Polsat." whom? what?!

  6. Ok, missed the timeline a bit... But here, we are: NYD2020.zip Pouet: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=84458 New Year's Disc 2020 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone! Welcome to this years edition of NYD! It was a hard year for me in 2019 - a big not expected thing happend to me. So it was not so easy to create something for the A8. But I didn't want to stop this tradition and even if I had no clue, what to code myselves I started the call for entries at November 8th 2019. Gunstar and eMKay where about the first who had contacted me and eMKay just had a nice tune ready, so I had an idea, what I could try to code and asked both to help. But due to some more problems here, time ran out to do a nice production. At the end I had to cancel this project, to have at least one thing ready for NYD 2020. Again: Sorry Gunstar and eMKay that I did not complete the thing and your work is not presented as we had planned. I really hope to come back to this project and make it to a presentable and nice thing. Ok, now back to this NYD... My little intro should run on NTSC or PAL, but should be watched in PAL, as the colours are not set for NTSC - sound runs well even at 60 Hz PAL machines this time. Tools used to do this are: Rasterconverter, mads, graph2font, ATARI Font Maker, Raster Music Tracker, WUDSN - Thanks to the authors of these tools. The music was ripped from a modfile ebbhead made in 1992. Other words from the people who had made the projects are added below the lineup. We hope you all got well into 2020 and will have fun watching, listening and yes, PLAYING!!! There is imho a very well done game there this time :) At least my daughter had some minutes of fun playing the ATARI, yet. GFX/Music/Code by milpool! . : Requires 64kb. . . : . _[ trd2020.xex ]________________________: \_______________________________________/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wrathchild - Doomfire ********************* This demo I initially worked on in April 2019 after converting the original Javascript into a C and Allegro prototype on Windows. The aim was to then port take that code onto the UNO Cart’s ARM processor to see it running on the A8 but that hasn’t been done yet. There were two flavours, a 2x2 pixel mode for 2 rows of Graphics 10 per square at 80 pixels wide or 4x4 pixels for 4 rows at 40 pixels wide. For the NYD 2020, I have converted the C into 6502 assembler and first tried to see if the 2x2 version would run ok on a stock machine. It was almost acceptable but I chose to move to the 4x4 mode instead and this works fine. Coding was done across 3 days from 29th-31st Dec but has taken about a day overall. NTSC/PAL is detected at startup and colors/colours are adjusted accordingly however the music will run a little faster on NTSC. Having listened through the Winter Olympiad 88 songs, initially I was thinking to use the Biathlon tune but preferred the Downhill one in the end. I hope, that everything is in and I did not forget something. I tested every entry and every disc with my 600XL with U1MB and ASAP's microSD2SIO Device. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  10. I have an involved story about how I got started in computers. It involves a friend that did art on the Atari 800. I resurrected my A8's to see if I could find some of the art he did. I spent New Years Day looking for it. I have found some. With a few minutes left in the day. I have direction. I will paint a vivid Word-picture some day but I want to share one of his works - it needs color correction, doesn't do the real thing justice. Here's a taste - He was able to convey a lot in AtariPaint. Thank you

  12. Gauntlet crossed my mind but it's 4 characters and they're not really that recognisable. The game itself was probably most renowned for it's D&D shooter flavour and for being 4 player simultaneous action. How about the bat from Pong?

  13. All-time top systems No real surprise that the XB1 still is the most played system as it was #1 in 2018 and #2 in 2019. 19. Well I guess I could add my NYE times and these include my past times for the week so ignore the original post. Firepower 2000 (SNES) 57 mins Centipede (Atari 2600) 20 mins Missile Command (Atari 2600) 10 mins I fixed my Wico trackball so I tried some Centipede and Missile Command. It works better than I expected. It was much better than using the joystick. Thunder Force III (Genesis) 182 mins (starting to get better at this game, it makes Arrow Flash seem easy in comparison). Arrow Flash (Genesis) 89 mins Kirby's Dreamland 3 (Well, it's Hoshi No Kirby 3, but it's the same thing) (SNES) 10 mins Super Mario 64 (N64) 12 mins Hotwheels Turbo Racing (N64) 8 mins was just using this game to test my N64 memory card I just fixed. If I actually wanted to play the game I'd play the superior PS1 version. Super Mario World (SNES) 52 mins Super Nova (Darius Force) SNES 32 mins King of the Monsters 2 (Genesis) 40 mins Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth (N64) 10 mins

  25. Sorry, I forgot about the "broken" week... just realized that I should still post my times for December 30th and 31st, so here they are... Arcade: Commando - 72 min. Track & Field - 19 min. I played some more Commando and managed to beat the 1st area a few times. In Track & Field I also managed to complete the 1st set of 6 events and got to the 2nd one where the qualifying limits are much harder.

  26. Just about done with V3. Cut out a number of the ridiculously fast speed levels, so it is playable by mere humans with retired old people reflexes. Last thing I'm working on it some weird screen flash when the frog reaches the safe beach at the top of the screen. It doesn't crash, and it doesn't do the glitch every time. But I need to find it for OCD reasons. It's a pretty game but gets boring quickly. Gameplay is intentionally limited to the scope of the original Pet game on purpose. If I feel motivated to continue on to V4 that will add new things not done in the prior versions -- other hazards, more animated things, etc.

  28. Here's some inspiration. My step-dad built this desk for my step-brother and I around 1982/1983. It's heavy duty marine plywood with a Formica top surface epoxied over it and trim wood custom cut and stained for the front edges. The riser has a hole cut on the right side sized for an SIO plug. BITD we had a single 1050 next to the 800, and a Star SG-10 printer off to the right, a box of fanfold paper sitting on the floor underneath. On the back of the desk, there are four double-plug outlets gang-wired in parallel to a single pigtail outlet that plugs into the wall, and all the outlets are wired to the front-mounted light switch. All that original A8 stuff is long gone, but it makes a fitting home for one of my current stable of A8 machines.

  29. I'm going to go ahead and share where I am at now. Future updates will be small and just have to be added to this pack. Not a whole lot has been done. But i wanted to start with a clean base for the updates to be added to. Added a few Homebrew games. (Grave Robber, Zombie Chase, Death Match, etc.) Added a few Hacks. (Pac-Man 8K, Donkey Kong II, Donkey Kong Remix, Donkey Kong Arcade) Removed (Hack), (Proto), etc. descriptors from the display names. (They now look much cleaner and that type of game info can still be found on the Description Page.) Added "Proto" to the display name of Alien Greed 5 as requested. I also changed the box art to match. Lots of tiny edits and fixes, Happy New Years Guys. I'm going to call this build "A.T.A.R.I." 32. Greetings! I don't often post in these parts of the AtariAge forums, but I have a good reason to do so today: I am currently running a poll in the ColecoVision sub-forum as an interest check for a high-quality arcade-style Asteroids controller. This controller, if it becomes reality, would be immediately compatible with the Atari 2600 and 7800 versions of Asteroids (and probably a few other Atari games as well, like maybe Gravitar). So I figure some Atari fans could be interested in pre-ordering it. I invite you to drop by the poll thread and answer the questions of the poll, but before you do, please read the first post of the poll thread to get all the available information about the proposed controller. Thanks!

If it was a game character then indeed, Bounty Bob would be a good choice although the Lode runner load screen is also good but can you really choose a character that has appeared on other computers as 'most Atari'?

  43. For those like me that value their privacy it wasn't til today when I checked http://vectrex.co.uk/ that I learned that Thomas set up a site and posted his new/current goods here: https://www.vecfever.com/ Of course the biggest addition is the whole cinematronics/vectorbeam CCPU game collection, this goes great for exploring the original coin op games that led to ports of the GCE games of the vectrex. I've seen some cool UV overlays done by Laurence, but I wanted to create some overlays that gave a nod to the original coin op overlay schemes that were used. With my little cutter I came up with a nice set for myself. Star Wars and ESB is some exciting stuff, was able to get to do some testings of Star Wars over the summer and actually found myself addicted to the game (not a bad little shooter), gotta get my ESB on now. Another great new FW setting is the orientation for the menu, no more taco neck while rockin' the SBT horizontal games. The horizontal SBT games also got the brain power flowing to come up with a better stand than the 3D print thingy. Wanted it to be minimal, safe, fold-able and a sturdy stand for horizontal gaming. Height of stand was determined by the center of the screen in vertical mode, so the height of screen is same when on the stand. good day.

  45. XB G.E.M. uses virtually all the remaining space in the 5 XB groms, so there is no room for turther development other than bug fixes. However, in developing G.E.M. I learned how to use bank switched cartridge roms. This greatly simplifies the process. Now XB256 can go into one page of cartridge memory and then be quickly copied over to low memory with an XML routine, rather than using GPL to copy the decompressor to high memory, the compressed XB256 code to high memory, then run the compressor to put XB256 into low memory. This is way faster and more versatile, plus revisions get a whole lot easier. I am now using XB2.7 as a base, so there are the additional calls provided by XB2.7. Another one that I added was CALL FONT, which gives you a choice of 30 fonts. Even better, you can now change the font and colors of the XB editor. This is shown in the short GIF below. There is still much to do. I will add the additional CALL LINKs to TML that formerly had to be embedded in the XB program, so now this will be a complete package. I will also include TML GA which can be used to create graphics adventures. The top two thirds of the screen can be used for pictures and the bottom third for text. I will probably include DM1000. This is not very useful for those running in emulation, but could be very useful if you have real iron. More to come.....
