I am getting a LOT of people privately messaging me about Kieren and all the wrongs he's done to them. Look, if you won't post it publically, don't bother telling me. I can't verify he said/she said. And the people named as his 'supporters' in that document of lies.... moaning privately about being on listed there... grow a pair.

I've released dmf2asm and the included xmym tracker at github. If you're planning on giving a try to composing music in DefleMask, check out one of the DefleMask tutorials on youtube, and then please give the dmf2asm README.txt a once-over first, because you need to construct the music with certain restrictions. I've included 7800basic-based and assembly-based tracker examples. The assembly one is less glitzy than my 7800basic version, purely as a function of my free time. If anyone wants a glitzy assembly example, feel free to contribute one. Please report any bugs encountered here or at github, and feel free to discuss technical details here.

SysCheck's primary purpose is not as an aesthetically pleasing, discreet RAM upgrade. While it can serve as a RAM upgrade and external OS ROM, its primary function is as a diagnostic tool, and it completes that mission objective with aplomb. 'Poor quality control' and 'SysCheck' are not two entities which sit well in the same sentence. I'm sure requests for a smaller PCB, some form-factor change, or a casing would be well-received, but the analogy with the video game crash does not hit the target well, IMO.

AltirraOS bumped to 3.14, fixes only in the 65C816 version. Sysdev device (@:) no longer returns bogus data, fixed a crashing issue in the screen editor, and added a workaround for slow boot with SpartaDOS X 4.48 (it expects to be able to read mainline A/X/Y registers from the stack from the VBI handler in native mode). A few 65C816 fixes to both the main '816 emulator and to Veronica, mostly corner case direct page wrapping bugs but also a bug with WDM being a 1-byte instead of 2-byte instruction. To give you an idea of how bizarrely inconsistent the '816 is: (dp) wraps within the direct page when reading the high address byte in emulation mode, except if DL > 0, except for PEI (dp) which always crosses pages. (dp,X) in emulation mode wraps within the direct page when reading the low address byte, except when DL > 0, but always wraps in emulation mode when reading the high byte. Which means that if D=$0001 and X=$FF, LDA ($FF,X) reads the address from $01FF and $0100. (dp),Y in emulation mode wraps within the direct page when DL = 0 and crosses pages for DL > 0, for both low and high address bytes. Which means that (dp,X) with X=0 and (dp),Y with Y=0 can read different addresses. [dp] and [dp],Y always cross pages, period. Fortunately, none of this crazy affects 6502/65C02 code executing with default D=0 or in native mode.

Kieren (you already told me you're reading this thread), I can confirm I have never had contact with Lost Dragon until posting on this thread. So, theres two ways, only one of them works. 1). Click on his Lairds Lair user name (it will list his amount of subscribers etc) 2). You will then see "Home" "Videos" "Playlists" etc...... click on "About" on the end of that line 3). Then click on the Flag icon at the bottom of the list that pops up 4). Then click on "report user" 5). Click on "Impersonation" and then Report 6). A new page will open, and you will see some new options, click on "This channel is impersonating a YouTube channel I follow or am familiar with" 7). You will then be presented with two URL boxes, first one is blank, leave it that way, second one is filled out with Lairds Lair URL details, click on CONTINUE next to that filled in URL box 8). Scroll down new page until you see "REPORT LAIRDS LAIR'S VIDEOS", and then click on the videos to report them. 9). Scroll down further, box with "Additional Notes" and there you can go into greater detail on why he is being reported. Happy to Help

Pete. Some good points initially made in your post, then it descends into something else. However, to my knowledge Paul Andrews has zero to do with these troll accounts, or with trolling anyone in the retro community. There is a difference between being outspoken in your own name (which is also something i do as you know !) and whipping up a brace of blatantly obvious "troll" accounts to create merry hell across social media. paul is very conscious of his business interests and, as a result, will not be drawn into stuff like this on the whole. he is quite quiet on social media, really. with regards to being outspoken about the OK issue, well, his family were subjected to a horrendous torrent of abuse as a result of what went on. I'm not saying who is right or wrong here, but merely that i can understand how things may have unfolded (i was not really on the internet for a while after this as i was ill, so missed a few months of goings on). besides, i don't want to talk about the ip issue as it's not my place and as far as i am concerned should be left in the past. it really should. it's been dined out on enough. it's a done issue and is over, and it would be better for everyone if it ceased to be brought up at any and every moment. (extremely ill informed) people talk of forgiving KH for a 15+ year campaign of hate against the retro community yet can't forget about an ip issue that's been resolved ? come on. one thing i will say and i have said it before is that if a random stranger came to our house and asked my dad to show him the title deeds for it, my dad would close the door in their face. ip owners have no need to provide "proof" of ownership, especially not to strangers. the burden of proof is on the accuser to disprove and, in reality, the situation is really the business of no-one save for the new ip holder and the former one. again, just my 2p and an unrelated example. can we please stop bringing this up every time any situation goes down in the community. certain people have striven to perpetuate it over and over and it is just tiresome, needless and keeps negativity flowing. finally (and yes i know i said i'd not talk about the ip but this is important), before any wise guys pipe up with "well you are clearly on one side of the fence as you are publishing the horace games" etc etc. yes, i am, and the profits are going to an MS charity. i don't gain anything really from doing so as with the rest of my enterprise which solely exists to give me something to do and to offer a product to the tiny, tiny amount of people who still want physical media. with regards to publishing, paul does not publish kieren's books, paul allows kieren to self publish his books through andrews uk, which is an entirely different matter. i can't say what will happen going forward as a result of this recent debacle, nor is it my desire to presuppose. with regards to andrews uk, i believe they publish tens of thousands of titles, and a look at their site will show that anyone can enter into a (self) "publishing" agreement with them, more or less. people will often choose to go with an umbrella company like this in order to get their books onto amazon and other major online storefronts, for example, which is a time consuming process for individuals as far as i know, anyway, from those i've spoken to about it (mostly people in the fantasy gamebook scene) ultimately, you've ended your post in a way that leaves open the door for suspicion and casts aspersions on someone who is neither here to defend themselves nor have they been in any way proven to be involved. This is a valid concern. I never liked having to use a third party utility like Drivesort to sort the files on the SD before using in Harmony. So, after some brainstorming, we have figured out a possible way to sort the entries in the Harmony menu automatically, and if we succeed, this will be in the next BIOS release.

Yes. It's emulated in the expected arcade games, as well as in the a7800 driver if you insert an "xm" device. (same as the a7800 emulator, which comes from MAME)

Just wanted to also put out that I'll be looking at more features in the coming weeks... Initial instrument loads being auto-split over a few frames. This should allow mid-game song changes without burning a lot of CPU. Support for tick1 different from tick2. Deflemask has two different note-row-timing delays; one for even rows, and one for odd rows. It's a bit weird, but I think I can support this without a lot of heartache. Mid-song instrument changes. This one is a lot more involved, but it would be cool to have up to 16 instruments at the ready.

A tad off-topic there, in my honest opinion. It all seemed more anti-Paul Andrews than anything else and as someone who has known Paul for quite a few years, I seriously doubt he would be influenced by anything Kieren said or felt about women in general or certain individuals in particular. This last post, again, only in my opinion and if I make so bold felt like more of a hatchet-job against Mr Andrews rather than bringing anything "new" to the Kieren Hawken affair. I have gone on record on my RetroGamingRoundup podcast that while I have no particular axe to grind against Sarah/Octavius per se I did feel that her naivete regarding the fallout of her public post was less than believable, and her lack of any denouncement for the death threats etc aimed at Paul and his wife was a bit of a poor show and did nothing to enhance her behaviour in my eyes. I have also stated that it is probably very true that she is a very nice young lady I just felt and still do that her behaviour at the time and her posts did little to reflect that. You state that she is an actor playing a part yet decry the suggestion that she is, to use your words a "tits4clicks" Youtuber. Surely, the character of Octavius Kitten is exactly that? It is a sexy character she plays, totally removed from her off-channel persona. But back to the topic in hand, regardless of two people living in the same place and having professional dealings regarding publications, it does not in any way suggest or support your suppositions that they have spent an inordinate amount of time in each other's company. You have mentioned that Kieren makes wild assertions with little or no evidence to prove things, simply to sow the seeds of discontent and general mistrust throughout the scene. I could be mistaken about this, I just can't be arsed trawling back through the hellish maze of insanity that this thread has become. But you don't hesitate for a second to do likewise. I really love the patterns that filter produces. It's not /always/ the best answer, but I often think it looks better than random dots - more like intentional shading.

I read Kieren's response shortly after it was posted, but sometimes it takes my brain a few days to digest things... When I first read it I wondered "Why the fuck does the Octav1us section span 4 pages? With 2 edits???" Some of these other people have been his enemies for 10+ years, wouldn't they be the ones with the longest parts? Hmm... These quotes are from his PDF and an alleged sockpuppet email Octav1us received (with similar phrasing). I get it now. He's furious that she's met with sympathy and care when she talks publicly about mental health issues, but it doesn't work when he does it. Yeah, it really looks to me like they went swimming together and took pictures afterwards. "Condition is Used" doesn't really say much at all, either. Hopefully he cleans it up some more and has a CRT to verify if it actually works. Too bad, as I think the Intellivision is a beautiful console and I hate seeing them all dirty like this, but seeing as some of them are literally 40 years old at this point, it's not unexpected.

It's been hard to get motivated the past few days. Nonetheless, I have found and fixed that bug where towards the end of the game the computer decided to start moving your pieces around. It was fairly subtle - to do with choosing a random move amongst n moves, where n was really small or zero. Anyway, hopefully this new binary won't exhibit that behaviour anymore. I'd actually embarked on a "major" new addition, but could barely bring myself to load the python IDE yet alone actually write some code to do the necessary tools. The idea, though, is to overlay (large) text onto the board. When there's check, checkmate, stalemate, or a draw then I'll overlay the large text as playfield graphics over the board. I'll ether do that in the next few days, or finalise the UI stuff. By finalise, I mean the following... * get en-passant working again * pre-cull the movelist so that you cannot make moves which leave you in check * get some sort of pawn promotion selection happening. I could use the "big text" for this, possibly. With those three, I could then release a "human vs human" version which would, as far as I'm aware, allow to players to play a legal game of chess without illegal moves, including castling, en-passant, pawn promotion. I do not plan to handle repetitive position or 50-move draw rules, though. Those are for purists. I don't think I've ever played a game where these applied. One other addition to this binary - if your king is in check after a computer move, the background will show red for a second or so... so I know at least that the basic concept of "check" is working check2.mp4 chess_20200223.bin

Ross, please don't take this the wrong way but please stop concentrating on facts that just establish what we already know - i.e. kieren is a douche. This is beyond doubt and it doesn't take a wall of text or three, to just repeat what people know. We know he doesn't check anything, contradicts himself and uses veiled threats. That is not in question. By swamping the new facts e.g. the sock puppet accounts, the police threats etc. It's just detracting and may serve to allow pertinent new information to be lost. This, in turn, will just switch people off from reading - which is precisely what he wants so he can get back to what he's always been doing.
