  1. I have turned it into a playable, one level demo. I have added a health bar, a score, and a sound player. The guards can now shoot you. You can no longer shoot the walls in general, but you need to shoot the doors to open them. I use that event to spawn new guards and chests. You complete the level by finding the multi-colored wall, and you die if you run out of health. In both cases the level simply restarts. raycaster.dsk raycaster.rpk raycaster8.bin

  2. I have fixed two small bugs - one of which happens when you reach 1,000,000 points... It drew the '1' over the monster pen, allowing the player and monsters to get in and out. While I did roll it over (like the arcade does), I keep the zeros there so you know the score rolled over. There is another small 'blink and you'll miss it' bug I fixed as well. This one is going to @Albert whenever he is ready to put the game in the store (if he wants to)... and when @Nathan Strum is able to do the artwork. @Marc Oberhäuser, do you still do boxes?

  3. I'm happy to report that 50 #FujiNet pcbs are being made as I write this. They are expected to be shipped to me in early July, then I will have to add the custom SIO connectors and power switch. If all goes well I should be able to begin shipping in mid July, but no guarantees. I do not have a price yet as I still need to work out costs for the 3D printing of cases and connectors. I will also likely offer a no case option if you want to print your own or get a high quality one printed (the XE case I got printed from Jawstech is VERY nice). I'm working on a way to for people to reserve a FujiNet to get you in line for one without payment yet. Orders will be limited to 1 per person so that more people have a chance. Will keep you updated here with progress

  6. I needed a break from other coding. Therefore, when @ZeroPage Homebrew announced that they would play INV+ (and show a demo named INV3), I remembered an old Space Invaders demo which I had done in 2001 and 2003. Using the RESP trick, I was able to display 11 invaders per row, like the arcade game. So I went back to the demo and decided as an intermediate project I might make a nice little (4K) game out of it. Over the past days I have completed the overall display kernel. This gives a good impression about the final game. It even has basic gameplay as you can shot the invaders. However there are still some major things missing, e.g. the invader bombs, the shield handling and all sound. I based the graphics on the arcade version and adapted them to the different screen layout. They are not perfect, but for now they should do. For the colors I decided go for a medium arcade variant (early versions had no colors, later versions were very colorful). The obvious differences to the arcade are: - The invader formation is much wider than in the arcade, this is a hardware limitation - There are 3 instead of 4 shields, because I can do only 3 large shields (if anyone has an idea for 4 large screens, please let me know) or 4 small shields (like in Atari's Space Invaders game). IMO the larger shields are closer to the arcade. What are your thoughts here? BTW: "Space Invaders Arcade" is only the project name until I come up with something better. 7. No slur intended whatsoever Brett but surely, you must have heard at least one or two of the stories connected to Mr Hawken, and you're trying to say that as a professional writer of some 23 years, you chose not to listen to any alarm bells that might have been ringing and do some hard research to see if there was any meat on these bones? Kieren has never had any qualms about being more than a tad vocal about his complete and utter disdain for Nintendo and their product. But for some reason you walked into this particular minefield with your eyes wide open. There are as you said to me, two sides to every story, but surely the overwhelming torrent of evidence here and elsewhere, of people who have personal experience of his deception and disgusting behaviour shows that there are, yes two sides...the truth, which is that Kieren is a talentless, underhanded, lazy, narcissistic sociopath and plagiarist and his version which is that people from across the globe have clubbed together in a shadowy cabal to bring down the career of one man, who basically has done sweet fuck all in the big scheme of things.

  8. At some point, the difference between gross incompetence and fraud is extremely slim. Taking such a large amount of money, without a plan, without a budget, and without even a product (and, just to reiterate, making it appear you had all three) is a scam. I tend to believe the theory that Atari was trying to score a buyout, which would simply have meant they were scamming a potential buyer in addition to a field of pigeons. Lets say tomorrow I wake up stupid and decide I want to get into the airplane business. I mean, I don't know anything about engineering or physics, but how hard could it be, right? So I'll raise $50,000 and spend my time trying to figure out how to put a propeller on a Kia. Fact is, from jump I should have known better, and me taking money for it is dishonest at absolute best. I honestly don't think it's inappropriate to talk about corporate malpractice in cases like this.

  9. Hello fellow TI and Geneve Users! The new round of the IDE Group Buy is finally here! It’s amazing that this card is being reborn from it’s original files and designs by Theirry Nouspikel to help get more of these jems in TI and Geneve users PEB units. I am opening up the PRE-ORDER effective immediately. The preorder will last through June 25, 2020. No new pre-orders will be offered for this round. I have quite a few options on the IDE Pre-Order on my store. Such as IDE2CF, IDE2SD card adapters, SD, CF cards, assemble services and more. I have also added the option if you would like to purchase my BQ4802 clock module for use with the IDE as a backup to the original BQ4847 that’s in the component kit. My clock module allows you to change the battery and crystal easily and are currently active components being manufactured. Please be sure to check out all options for the IDE card when adding it to your shopping cart. If no other options are chose but the IDE card then that is only a BARE PCB, so please review your orders before submitting to ensure everything is as you want it. There are other products in the store to cover if a user is sending me a card from the original run to assemble/test as well as purchasing of a separate IDE component kits, my clock module, etc. I am still working on the 3D case for the IDE2SD adapter. Just need to get my bed leveled a bit better. I’ll send an email to anyone that has interest in those, just let me know. If you are purchasing multiple cards then please only select one card and then select the options for that card, go back and repeat. This will ensure that each card gets flagged correctly on the order. For all buyers please be aware that shipping will be collected in a separate invoice when the item(s) are ready for shipment. This is to ensure that shipping and packaging are accurately calculated since there are many options that are offered on this pre-purchase and weight can be a factor of multiple cards and other items can be ordered. The IDE card and items will not be shipped until the shipping invoice is paid. All items will be shipped with tracking numbers for US and International as well as insurance for the amount of the invoice with no exceptions. All US packages will be shipped with US Priority Mail. For all international packages all custom forms will be submitted with accurate counts and value of items being shipped. Buyers will be responsible for paying any custom fees associated with the package or contents. No Batteries will be shipped if purchasing my SHIFT838 Clock module. This requires a CR2032 battery, which is easily obtainable. IDE cards will be smoke tested and burned in prior to shipping. I suspect it will take about 3 weeks to get the PCBs once ordered. The components will take 2 to 3 weeks as well. Orders will be filled by invoice number, so first in equals first out. I believe I will have quite a few cards to build, so please be patient. You can always check up on your order of where it is in the stack by emailing me directly. Please include your invoice/order #. Cancellations are not permitted as once the orders go in for the components and PCBs the items are already paid for. 10. Tiles is a little puzzle game I decided to create over the course of the last 10 days. Just random hours here and there. It's a simple idea, fill the grid with the specified 'Win Tile' in as few moves as possible, as fast as you can. There are a couple of random power ups that can appear: - Mirror: You get a mirrored cursor for 8 seconds. - Fill All: You can replace all tiles of one type. Included are 4 difficulty settings; The tileset graphic changes with each and the allotted time reduces. Naturally, theres a separate scoreboard for each difficulty too! The project started as a fun little thing to see how quick I could go from zero to completed game whilst trying to keep the presentation at a level i'm happy with. Tools used: - Raptor API & rB+ by Reboot. - U235 SE by Linkovich. - Paintshop Pro 7. - Audacity. Hope you all enjoy. ROM included below - it is locked to JagGD and Skunkboards only (emulation will not work). MRQ file added for the JagGD. Tiles_V1.01_JagGD_SK.rom Tiles_V1.01_JagGD_SK.mrq

  11. Hello everybody, Tracking numbers are still not displayed on the post office website... As this is unacceptable and although we cannot activate the process at the post office, we have made the decision to offer a gift to all buyers of this re-issue. We will of course be selling other games for Intellivision this year, all Maria buyers will receive with this next game a set of free encyclopedic cards on Intellivision. These cards will be limited and never reprinted. They will be part of a general encyclopedia in the form of cards that we will be publishing soon. You won't have to do anything, we'll send these cards together with the next game. We are very sorry for the delay...

  12. New build: DragonsCache_6_11_2020.bas.a78 DragonsCache_6_11_2020.bas.bin - Binary A few attempts at some bug fixes, cleanup, plus an added "hit" frame for when you're under attack in battle mode. There -might- still be a bug where the left/right controls of the 2nd player aren't very responsive, particularly after a rematch or two. It seemed to come and go between matches. It's something in the game with how I ramp up speed. I tried to fix the bug, but I'm still not 100% sure what causes it. It should show up in emulation, and likely hardware, if it's still present. I realize 2 player games are tricky in right now with the lockdown - I mentioned this earlier, but I was able to get a network game up and running using a combination of Parsec (for the online matchmaking) and Retroarch (for the actual emulation). In my humble opinion, it's worth looking into for those looking to play with a 2nd player remotely with classic games, and only took a little bit of tech wrestling to get functioning One thing to keep in mind is that both players should have their own controllers - keyboard play overlaps with a lot of the Parsec service's hotkeys.

  15. That looks great! Now, I don't know if this could be done in 4K, but while working on Gorf Arcade with John, I thought, "Well... as long as I've got some Space Invader sprites done..." I mocked up a Space Invaders Arcade screen that would incorporate more of an arcade-like background (the player's ship is still from Gorf in this pic): You're welcomed to the sprites if you'd like (John said it would be okay with him), and the background if it's of any use. - Nathan P.S. I was nagging John to include a "hidden" Space Invaders Arcade Easter Egg in Gorf, but there wouldn't be enough ROM to do it. Plus, John didn't really want to have to program six games for one cart.

  16. That's silly. You're not supposed to have developers on board before a console is ready to ship! You wait until after it was supposed to ship, then promise that the first 500 will go to the developers. Then not ship those either. Clearly, Sony doesn't have any idea what they're doing.

Clearly you don't give a damn about what he's done to others (including pushing them to near suicide), the slandering and attempted ruination of careers and relationships or just the fact that you are working with a straight up shitbag human who has most likely fabricated everything he's sent to you. I think I'll pass on your products, and I'm sure many others will as well. You are trying to shill a retro related book, written and targeted at a retro audience... an audience that Hawken has spent the last 15 years trying to destroy and tear down, causing problem after problem wherever he goes. If you think the retro community is going to stand behind you on this one and advertise your efforts then you might want to take a second to consider your position.

  24. THANKS!!! You can ignore #4 as GTIA is placed at the edge of the SALLY-CPU boards. Yours is the legacy (older) one. I can see that the video-header is pretty thin and will be just ok at the right-edge as well. For the above reason, and with a 12" cable, there is absolutely no need to open any hole on the RF-shield. On Sally, exit-ribbon could 180-degree wrap behind the board, then carefully fold at 90-degrees going down, and entering through a small slot (to be made) on the plastic-frame of the expansion-bay. Just like this, but on the back-side of the bay: Once inside the expansion-bay, exit through the top-cover is now possible... all this without any modification (whatsoever) to the external case of the machine. Thanks for the detailed diagrams. It seems a relatively smooth and stealth install is perfectly possible with Sophia-2 form-factor. Cheers!

  30. Are any of these personal accounts of his making it into the book then? I assume by impact you mean collecting dust in branches of BOOTS Round my area in Hertfordshire we had several smaller chains in Software Plus, Calculus and Games Galore, none of which stocked the NES (they all stocked the Atari 2600/7800 funnily enough though) and then when the first big chain opened in Future Zone (who went on to become part of Game) I went to work for them and we didn't stock the NES either, but did stock the Master System. In fact when I was working at Game in 1993/1994 we were still selling the SMS and its games but no NES stuff. Also I clearly remember people being very p1ssed of with TMHT on the NES because it wasn't a conversion of the arcade game and also wasn't very good. It may have helped ship a few consoles but the sales figures overall speak for themselves. My Digital Books | Laird's Lair | XEGS Podcast The Laird Re: Systems that you had no interest in and still don't Post Fri Oct 09, 2015 2:57 pm But anyway, mine are: NES I was laughing at this machine as it gathered dust in my local BOOTS well before my next door neighbour had one. I could never understand the appeal of it and was honestly both bemused and shocked by it's success in America. I have yet to find anything about that would change my mind, it was just totally inferior to near enough all it's competition. An honest an open review of NES Turtles, which by his own admission in his own A to Z guides, he had no concept of why it was seen fit to be converted to the home computers, we had to answer that for him, would make for a genuine read. His vast UK Retail scene experience, detailing how badly the NES fared in the UK would make for a genuine article all on it's own. They'd be great comparisons to the genuine US NES owners reviews. Brett, your talking about an individual who again, by his own admission in his own books, based a review (Jaguar Zero 5) on watching someone else play it at a Retro Event, as he found it too hard. An individual whom ex-Newsfields Roger Keane has made clear, had to almost completely rewrite every review submitted, the standard was that poor, for a commercial publication. You quote Sam Dyer as a grounding, yet Sam has also stated i believe he won't be working with Kieren on any future projects. Guru Larry is having to issue a revised edition of his Fact Hunt Book to correct the Atari Jaguar errors Kieren gave him as fact. Darryl Still kicked off over Kieren not asking him for the Atari UK side of Jaguar Zero 5,nor speaking to Caspian Software M. D for the full story, when Kieren assisted with a Fact Hunt script. Your taking work on at face value, whilst ignoring the lessons others learnt the hard way. Quoting one publisher because it suits your argument, but choosing to ignore the warnings from so many others is selective at best and far from reassuring for your backers. Your project. Your gamble. It's not DRAMA. Likes of Guru Larry, Pixel Nation, Fusion Publishing etc took him on at Face Value only to find work taken from Wikipedia, him taking credit for writing most of the books, multiple scripts and having to invest time cleaning his work up. Even after all that, his claims were anything but genuine. You must have had concerns. You yourself left him off the contributors list on the Kickstarter campaign. If you have such confidence in him, why wasn't he named? Your pulling a Sam Dyer on us here.

  34. FWIW, I just got the shipping notice from OSHPark. Their half-thickness board service doesn't have any rush options, so it took the full two weeks this time. The tracking number says the v2 boards should be here Monday. I'll have the first results overnight. My confidence level for the smoke test is high: the schematic is unchanged and all we did was make the PCB layout better. Assuming that goes well, I'll be sending a few assembled boards to Ruggers Customs to test against a pile of different Colecovision revisions. I'll leave it up to MrPix whether he wants to wait to hear back from that round of testing before he orders a bunch of these. For my part, seeing it work perfectly on a PAL Colecovision is enough to raise my overall confidence level pretty high. That's just about the most-different environment you could imagine, so if it also works there, it should work everywhere. I've got a fair chunk of the instructions site finished locally. Most of it has to wait for these final PCBs before I can start taking pictures and recording video, though. I hope to have most of that done during next week, too. EDIT: Er, it looks like the shipping notice was for a couple more 8-pin DIN breakout PCBs and the new test jig boards, which were both using their standard stack-up. The half-thickness TMS-RGB boards themselves are supposed to come back from the fab a day later. So with any luck "Monday" above should only become "Tuesday". We'll see.

  36. A small picture story about the Stoneage Lynx... You can navigate RetroPie with the Lynx buttons The game can be played in correct rotation or rotated There is an interface to real carts like the PiHAT for reading and writing carts. You can emulate other platforms as well. Games like Hero Quest work fine by plugging in a keyboard/mouse combo The back of the Lynx also provides HDMI So you can use fulls screen resolutions of the TV A nice project imho... Now my Lynx has WiFi, BT, Ethernet, cc65 build environment. So it doubles as a laptop. The new CPU is a Raspberry Pi 3. Edit: The original Lynx I was beyond repair. The Mikey chip was gone and it lacked several parts as I needed them for repairs of other Lynx I units. So no Lynx was harmed in this emulator project.

  38. This would be pretty a good trick. Typically you would need 16 levels for each stack so there goes 64 bytes! You could limit that in the way you write programs. Might be able to use registers as a short data stack. (?) It begs the question of what threading mechanism you would use. The smallest code to run is native code because the CPU does all the interpretation. So you could just pass addresses from VDP of code snippets that load to scratchpad, run and reload the VDP reader. You might be able to use byte code that feeds native code snippets to the scratchpad for each byte code and then reloads the byte code interpreter... my head starts swimming.

  39. I was a part of a niche animation community primarily from 2000-2004, dabbled in it later. Our tools of the trade were PSP7+Animation Shop 3 which came bundled together. They're separate programs but were also designed to work in tandem. Since then I never had reason to upgrade since it does everything I need, and none of the shit that I don't. Anyway, sorry for the brief derailment. Watching the gameplay video, I'm finding myself melting into my chair listening to this relaxing music and seeing those colors... very relaxing vibe. Back when I was in college there was a time where I'd get home from my afternoon/evening classes exhausted and just lay in bed for hours playing puzzle games deep into the night. This would've been a great game for that.

  41. The files beyond sector 720 use a second VTOC bit map sector above sector 1023 which DOS 2.0 is completely unaware of. DOS 2.5 shows them with the brackets < > . 1023 sectors was the limit for sector counting as the three end bytes also needed bits for file number merged within the first two bytes of the last three bytes. This left 0x3FF (1023) as the last usable sector. The second VTOC of DOS 2.5 was I believe at sector 1024 and 1025 thru 1040 were wasted space. So many ways it's not so very compatible with any other DOS. But I used the devil out of it in the years before I had a ramdisk.

  45. Feature request for TIDIR. I just did some "processing", and generated 3 x 48 sets of PC TXT files. These files need to be converted to DV80 files. I jus discovered I can highlight all the files, but only one file will be converted, not the whole batch. It would be nice to be able to process all the files at once rather than individually, especially since I have to use the drop down menu for how to handle the CR/LF characters. Beery

  46. Well, yes, harder than hard pass. You hired an utter pariah, who is a self confessed NES hater, and is totally outcast by the entire retro community for abhorrent behaviour, to write for a book of yours. Umm, if you can't even research your writers, what hope is there for the actual book?

  47. It appears he was. No thanks. I think I speak for a lot of people not only here, but in the retrogaming community in general when I say that anything that he has contributed to is going to be a hard pass.
