  1. Good news: I was able to repeat some of the integrity errors with Mitch's console by configuring my Concerto like the ones out there. I have a good idea about the cause now and will post up a new test BIOS once I have it error-free.

  2. Download the latest alpha here: 12.12.2020 release bin / cfg Infiltrator_alpha12122020.bin Infiltrator_alpha12122020.cfg rom Infiltrator_alpha12122020.rom Updates since the last alpha release: - Fixed intermittent issue with one mine sometimes showing up at the wrong spot. - Fixed end game issue related to an enemy which was preventing progress of cloaked players (inside dark room). - Added new game rating "Perfect infiltrator", destined to those who finish the game with an overall rating of 100%. - Music volume slightly increased. - Testing credits updated. What's in consideration for the next release - Adding some type of variability to the minefield layout. Infiltrator for Intellivision features... - Awesome music by Nyuundere using ECS extra sound channels - Digitized sound effects by Artrag. - An original game for the Intellivision. This is not a port. - 4 skill levels for increased replayability. - A rating system that helps players track and improve their playing style. - Infiltrator is the first stealth action game for the Intellivision platform. - Fun fact: Infiltrator is the first Intellivision game to incorporate a digitized LoFi version of the famous "Wilhelm scream". The sound is played when you die. Brian's Man Cave video play through Thanks for the great video, Brian! Screenshots: Gameplay video Game description: As an elite soldier severely outnumbered and outgunned, your objective is to complete your mission while basically staying out of sight. You are equipped with an experimental cloaking suit, which is definitely much fancier than let's say... putting a cardboard box over your head to hide from enemies. Controls: Disc = moves character around Action buttons = skips dialog 1 = activates cloaking suit (requires power cell to be equipped) 2 = lists mission objectives (active objective will be blinking) 3 = uses med kit (needs to be equipped) 4 = opens inventory screen 5 = reads messages received at certain screens 6 = activates the risk scanner (needs to be equipped, available on Easy skill only) Here is a mocked-up overlay: Skill levels: It is recommended to start playing on "normal" or "easy". Skill levels "hard" and "insane" have tougher and faster enemies, and your character is weaker too. Main screen The dashboard to the right contains information on hit points, charge level and any equipped items. Note you will find several items over the course of the game. Not all of them can be equipped immediately. Also some of them will be unequipped automatically after use. Mission objectives You mission involves: 1- locating a hacking device left by another agent somewhere on the map. 2- using the device to hack the enemy's communication tower and extract valuable intelligence. 3- a classified objective, to be revealed only after #2 is complete. 4- exiting the site by any means possible, at your discretion. Pressing "2" will show a summary of objectives. The active objective will blink. Your friend, the cloaking suit Your cloaking suit provides a very effective way to evade enemies. However, it requires a significant amount of energy for operation. Energy comes from power cells found in certain places. Some power cells are better than others, and will allow the suit to operate for longer periods. In order to use the suit: 1- find a power cell 2- equip the power cell (by going to the inventory screen and selecting the item) 3- press "1" to activate the suit 4- move swiftly as time is running out! Once the suit is activated, the power cell is consumed entirely. The suit will not recharge on its own. You will need to find a new power cell. Cloaking stages: Fully cloaked (invisible) --> partially cloaked (power cell wearing out, still invisible) --> Fully visible to enemies About the enemies: Enemies will generally mind their own business as they patrol their assigned waypoints. However, they will immediately become aggressive and chase you in case you would somehow cross their visual field. Enemies will also attack if they find evidence of your presence. For instance, be careful with the footprints you leave when wet! Some enemies are capable of shooting, and getting cover in such close quarters will be impossible. So you might as well not mess with them. If you manage to trigger two enemies, most likely one will keep shooting while the other one will chase you. For some enemies, colors indicate their current mode of operation: - Patrolling (oblivious to your presence): blue - Aggressive (has seen you!) : red - Confused / Searching for you : orange Not all enemies will visually signal their modes, though. Particularly the elite ones. Either way, screen borders will always change colors accordingly to indicate an alarm is active and emphasize the enemies' "mood". Leaving the screen will reset any alarms and bring enemies back to their original patrolling state. Effect of cloaking on enemies Of course, the safest way to employ cloaking is by activating it before entering the enemy's visual field. Enemies will completely ignore you, unless you bump into them. Don't do that! However, as an emergency measure, you can also activate cloaking once you are spotted. That will confuse enemies and buy you precious time. Do not let them spot you again once your power cell runs out! Inventory System Pressing "4" will open the inventory system, and the items you have will show up. Using the disc, it is possible to move the cursor to different items. As that happens, short descriptions are shown below. Use the action buttons to equip/unequip items. Equipped items will show up on the main screen dashboard to the right. The game will equip items on the right slots depending on their use. There is a dedicated slot for battery (power cells). Many items may compete for the hand slot. In that case, the last one equipped (on the inventory screen) will unequip any others that use that same slot. For instance, only one key card can be equipped at a time, even though head and leg slots may be open. Auto-equip functionality Whenever the battery slot is empty, picking up any power cell will automatically equip it. Same applies to items that use the hand slot. Auto equipping does not apply to head or leg slot items. Using the Risk Scanner (easy skill level only) When playing on Easy, you will be equipped with a special item called the "risk scanner", which uses the head slot. Press "Risk scan" (keypad 6) to activate it. The word "risk" will appear on the upper left corner, and the scanner will show in red those areas that are highly likely to be covered by the field of view of enemies. So don't go there unless cloaked! That is most helpful when learning the game and studying enemy patterns. In case no enemies are on screen, the Risk Scanner will not pick up anything. Also, the scanner won't work when an alarm is active. The message "an alarm is on!" will show up. The Risk Scanner is not available and cannot be picked up at any other skill levels. Injures, healing and death Being shot at, or simply getting in contact with the enemy will cause your character to blink in red as injures are inflicted. Injures decrease hit points (HP), and once those hit 0, your character will die. The portrait located on the upper right corner will indicate the level of stress incurred. - Calm (green, high HP) - Distressed (orange, medium HP): medium chance of bleeding with each HP lost. - Terminal (red, low HP): high chance of bleeding. Bleeding will leave a visible trail on the ground. The only way to recover HP is to find a Med Kit. Once equipped, press "3" to use and consume it entirely. Portraits will also indicate when cloaking is active (grey), or when protagonist is swimming (blue). Reading messages Occasionally as you visit new screens, you may receive messages. Those messages are mostly related to thoughts and observations made by the protagonist. Keep an eye on the "MSG" symbol on the right hand side of the screen to know when messages arrive. Press "5" to read messages. Once read, messages will be gone. Game statistics and rating When playing on Normal skill or above, once the game is over - no matter if you win or lose - your overall rating will be shown. In order to maximize your overall rating, you will need to: - complete all mission objectives - avoid being spotted by enemies - avoid getting injured - "Hard" and "Insane" skill levels will give you a slight boost to the score (handicap) in order to compensate you for the difficulty. Feel free to brag and post a screenshot if you finish the game with a perfect 100% overall rating! ? Credits Finishing the game on Normal skill level or above will reveal game credits. Credits so far: - a game by Cmadruga - SFX: Artrag - Music: Nyuundere - Testing: Skywaffle, Artrag, Descolado, Old Timey Retro Gamer, Peripheral, Kiwi. - Droid graphics: TIX Enjoy the game!

  3. So sad to hear this. Perhaps Albert might consider dedicating the home page to Curt's life and accomplishments for awhile to pay homage to all the good he did while he was on this planet. Truly a great man, and one that I'm glad to have met. You will certainly be missed by many.

  4. How absolutely horrific. I feel so bad for his family. His wife works at a hospital in NYC and they have a school age daughter. They just lost their pup of 15 years this past July and now they lost a father and husband. We lost a great pillar of the community. Rest In Peace, Curt. May his loved ones find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

  5. Getting there. Now I need to make it draw the sides properly when you're not next to the wall you're facing, then it'll be a case of making it actually check if there are more paths on the far sides as at the moment the far side walls are just forced as walls. This is going to let you see way more of the map at a time at the expense of objects appearing to pop in when going around the corners, but I think that's a good trade-off.

  8. This is my best shot of the moon. However, I used a telescope (Meade LX 50) and connected a DSLR of a colleague. This is already 13 years ago (December 2007); I guess it's about time to try again. The telescope acted as the lens of the camera, as such, it has a focus length of 2000mm and with an aperture of 203mm, it is a f/10.

  9. XB28GEM.zipAt long, long, last XB 2.8 G.E.M. is ready to be released. There are some instructions for setting it up in the README file. Once you have it up and running, try this: CALL LOAD(-2,78,145) This will set the colors to dark blue on gray, and use font 18, with XB autoload inverted. That is, if your finger is off the key autoload will not happen. You have to hold a key down to RUN "DSK1.LOAD" You can quit or bye and the colors will still be there when you select any of the XB choices from 2 to 8. Also, take a look at CALL HELP I imagine there will be some rough edges that need to be polished. Enjoy! XB28GEM.zip (edit) I predicted some rough edges. The first is that the file XB27GEM_8.BIN should be renamed XB28GEM_8.BIN I have uploaded XB28GEM with this change. (edit 9/3) revised version of XB28GEM with two bug fixes and revised README and XB28GEM files. CALL VERSION(X) now returns 2.820200903 (EDIT 9/22) SEE POST #276, PAGE 12 FOR THE LATEST VERSION

  13. Update on First page. Beta 3 Added extra elements: Sea Hag, bottles, & multiple hearts. Character movement is tweaked. Roadblocks I also cannot understand why the garbage is popping up on the screen. I added frames for Brutus to sweep his hand down. That is 6 frames. The game displays a black screen if I "incgraphic" more than 4. I don't get a memory error, and I have not added any code to use the frames. I reserved enough bottle registers for Brutus to be able to throw them. However, 1 Sea Hag, Popeye, Brutus, and a can of spinach is too much. I had to chop off the top of the ladder, in order to keep the bottle from disappearing. I tried to wrap hearts around Olive at the level clear. There are too many items displayed at the top of the screen. They will not all show. So, what I ended up with is due to a limitation of the number of sprites per line. I updated the bottom locations (not yet the top locations) of the stairs in a table, as a test. I am able to navigate Popeye with dynamic locations. I would still need to handle the tops, as well as adapt Brutus to use these. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

  19. The following info. may sound familiar to some of you. I've copied it over from another thread, just to provide background info. on this event. In June of 1982, the summer CES was held in Chicago. To coincide with this event, and on the evening of June 7 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Activision hosted the Pitfall Party (aka the Rumble in the Jungle) to celebrate the release of the game. It took place in the hotel's grand ballroom and multiple adjacent ballrooms. There were three bands playing simultaneously, dozens of party-style midway games, several open bars, live animals in cages hanging from the ceiling and hundreds upon hundreds of attendees. It was rumored that Activision spent in excess of $250,000 on the party. Attendees were given a safari jacket and an explorer's hat; Rumble in the Jungle matchbooks were even printed. Activision employees also received the "Survival Kit" zippered pouch. It contained a badge to get into the party, an Instamatic camera and coupons for the midway games. Thanks to Dan Kitchen for providing much of this information. By the way, Ken Uston, the infamous blackjack player, also attended the party. He wrote several books relating to blackjack and video games. I remember reading somewhere that he showed up with an exotic pet that he had. If I remember correctly, it was a pet monkey! Attached are a few pics from the party. Sorry I don't have any more, but these were the only ones I was able to get a hold of. I'm also attaching pics of the invitation package (courtesy of CPUWIZ), safari jacket, explorer's hat, matchbook and the "Survival Kit" pouch. Enjoy the pics! Jim Levy Here we have Carol Shaw. I believe that's Mike Lorenzen (designer of OINK!) with the hat on Gotta love the cheetah-skin tablecloth Invitation package Safari jacket, explorer's hat & matchbook "Surival Kit" pouch

  26. The telescope is a SC (Schmidt-Cassegrain), i.e. it has a main mirror and a smaller mirror which reflects back, so no lenses. The telescope itself is the "lens"; you can get an adapter for different DSLR types. The sky was quite clear (winter!) and exposure time around 1/320 s, so there were only minimal atmospheric issues. We made 30 shots, kept the best, and stitched them together, since the Moon is too big to fit in one picture. (Meanwhile, I got a focal reducer to 1270mm focal length, so I could try it again without stitching.) Of course, there is always some postprocessing; correcting contrasts, unsharp masking.

  27. Hi everyone, it's been a long time since my last update here, however some things are moving behind the scenes, so there will be some interesting news ... For now, let's start with my latest binary file of "Centipede Frameless tb v.3 " and other two alternative versions : "Centipede Dark Bezel tb" and "Centipede Arcade Bezel tb". These versions remained in a dormant state on my hard disk for a few years but they are complete and perfectly playable. Centipede "Arcade Bezel" tb is born thanks to an nice idea from Trebor . Here's a complete list of changes : - removed / updated the frame-border around the playfield. - re-draw the mushrooms graphics (now softer and closer to the arcade). - edited the graphics of the damaged mushrooms and the graphics of the poisoned mushrooms. - updated the eyes and the animation of the Centipede (now his feet are no longer alternate). - tweaked the graphics of the spider. - used the arcade score font. - updated the text font (options menu). - updated some colors / details on the title screen. - included the "TB" graphics on the title screen. There will be other interesting news so stay tuned! Cheers, Marco Centipede_Frameless_tb_v3.a78 Centipede_Frameless_tb_v3.bin Centipede_Dark_Bezel_tb.a78 Centipede_Dark_Bezel_tb.bin Centipede_Arcade_Bezel_tb.a78 Centipede_Arcade_Bezel_tb.bin Note: all versions above only support Trak-Ball control. Instead, the first "Frameless" version that supports joystick / pad controls can be found here.

  28. Classic times for me... I had my usual Tuesday stream on Twitch, and was planning on playing Broken Sword, a point and click adventure style game for the Playstation, but the controls were messed up. (Found out later that there's some kind of issue with my PS2 controller and Retroarch it turns out. Broken Sword works perfectly using the keyboard.) So I ended up just playing a bunch of random stuff. 2600 Donkey Kong - 5 min (Out of all the different variations of Donkey Kong, I'm best at this one. And I still suck at it.) Dragster - 18 min (Best time was 6.51 seconds (see pic below). Still about a full second off world record pace. LOTS of blown engines.) Keystone Kapers - 7 min Missile Command - 7 min Ms Pacman - 4 min Pac Man 8k - 8 min River Raid - 5 min Tapper - 5 min 7800 Mean 18 - 49 min (Got a couple nice chip ins and a hole in one. See vid below.) Ms Pac Man - 3 min Scrapyard Dog - 3 min TurboGrafx 16 Bonk's Adventure - 75 min (Beat it again. Such a fun game.) Blazing Lazers - 40 min Power Golf - 33 min (I had never played this one... and may never again...) NES Castlevania - 68 min (Cheated with save states, but beat Dracula.) Playstation Shipwreckers! - 10 min (I think the exclamation point is actually part of the title.)

  29. A very small week for gaming around here this past week, mostly because I took a bit of a break from video games to focus on other hobbies for the last half the week. After 7 years or so away from the hobby I got back into Nerf blaster collecting this week, and spent much of the week researching all the new blaster models that have come out in the past 7 years since I was last active in the hobby. That took up all the time I would have usually spent gaming, but I did still get in some gaming time earlier in the week. All I played this week was SNES games via Nintendo Switch Online, but it was a really good time. I started off by checking out Donkey Kong Country for the very first time and thought it was pretty fun, though frustration set in after a few hours when the game started getting crazy difficult so I ended up just playing Star Fox instead. I did a complete play through of Star Fox on the Level 1 path and did a few attempts at trying to get through the Level 2 path but kept getting stuck on Sector Y. As far as the spousal unit's gaming time for the week went, she joined in on the SNES gaming and played a couple hours of Kirby's Dream Land 3 but that was it for her too. Anyway, here's my household's times for the week! Until next time, and as always, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours. Super Nintendo (All played on Nintendo Switch Online) Donkey Kong Country - 166 minutes Kirby's Dream Land 3 - 119 minutes Star Fox - 237 minutes Total Video Game Play Time This Week 522 minutes (8 hours 42 minutes) [522 minutes eligible] Individual System Play Times This Week Super Nintendo: 522 minutes

  32. Thank you all...I don't have the words to express my gratitude properly...Not having the best of times here at the moment, horrible neighbours, health and other stuff but you guys and all the people I know are just the perfect set of friends you could ever wish for. The car is due an MOT, a vehicle safety check soon, should it fail all cash will be refunded straight away as any repair bills will make the car simply not worth the hassle of doing and that is just the truth, garage bills are never cheap and I have no wish to be ripped off...Been down that route before and the car I had ended up costing more than it was worth, I think many of us know that scenario. Not here to take advantage so while I hope it passes (should I think) should it not all monies will be returned, same if I get too high an insurance bill and I cannot cover it. With all this COVID I have no clue what will happen but if the car can't go ahead then no one sees their money wasted. You have my word and I'm a person that values that.. Edit: don't want to miss out on people.. Thank you Alfred and Matt, fingers crossed and yeah Matt, 3 cars in one go, I truly wish I was in a better state and could help, it just shows that we all know poor luck and trouble, I'm lost at the kindness shown and so sorry for others struggling, I wish I had a way to fix it all, I really do...

  33. A new release (v0.5.9) is now available with the following changes: Updated 7800basic to v0.12 (Windows, Linux, macOS) Added new 7800basic keywords: paddlerange, paddlescalex2, drivingboost, mousexonly, mousex0, mousey0, mousex1, mousey1, drivingposition0, drivingposition1, paddleposition0, paddleposition1, paddleposition2, paddleposition3, canary (RevEng) Added Build and Build and Run buttons to each open document (top right). Enabled write state for A7800 configurations Updated internal dev packages Sprite Editor Added right-click Open in Sprite Editor pop-up option for .spe files to load sprite editor projects directly from the Explorer window Fixed (hopefully) random/repeated file browser popups when using the Sprite Editor Disabled the Show Project on Startup option (can cause the above issue and also affect the new Open in Sprite Editor feature on first use) When exporting sprite images to file the active sprite project path is now used for the base save folder Apart from the update to the newest release of 7800basic (thanks Mike ?) there are a couple of new usability features included: Document tools Each document now has the Build and Build and Run buttons available is it's toolbar: Sprite Editor For those using the built-in Sprite Editor, you can now right-click on a *.spe file in the Explorer window and open the file directly in the Sprite Editor. Please note that for some reason it doesn't always open the file on the first start of the editor (still trying to determine why) and may cause the repeated file browser dialog popup. If that happens close and re-open the Sprite Editor. A7800 I've enabled the ability to save your configuration changes (ie. change controllers or other settings). I want to take this one step further eventually and change the location where these are saved so they are not wiped out when installing a new Atari Dev Studio release. Apologies for the lack of updates recently. Lots of other things happening around Millie and Molly, Arkanoid and 7800basic plus being stuck in covid lockdown is draining me currently.

  35. Wow, thanks for digging out the optimal mole whacking hardware, @Omegamatrix! I appreciate the effort. Did you apply the special mole-grabber tape to the back so they don't slip? 1) Yes! I have been appreciating the pause feature a lot lately when playing Ladybug and Klax. But I think it might not be necessary now because I've added a starting bell. Continuing my pattern of stealing from Kaboom, now you press the lower, right button to start a game, and to start each round. So, if you're like me and your head gets itchy when under pressure, you can pause between every round and take care of your nervous scratches. 2) Start bell to the rescue! 3) Yeah, I've been messing with flashing colors and nothing really grabs me. But actually as I'm typing this I just got a great idea, so thanks I owe it all to you! Ha ha ha! 4) That's a great idea. I wonder if I could or should combine that with another idea I had of twin moles--moles that pop up and match and you have to press two buttons at once to whack them. But maybe these are two separate ideas. hm... hmmm.....? I'll put these on the task list along with the "do not whack" mole/bomb. I'll attach a screenshot of the current game. I'll put up a new rom after I fix some nasty bugs. You can see the starting bell in the lower right corner. You hit it with the hammer to start the game and each round. I like it, but I'm not happy with my "ding" sound. Anyone have any idea how to make a good "ding" sound? I've tried using tones 4 and 12 and wiggling the volume up and down and it sounds okay as far as the ringing goes... but it doesn't have that really sharp attack like a hammer hitting a bell. The D in "ding" is missing. Also, I'm still on the fence (literally) about some of the visual touches I've added. The game had a really simple graphical look before. But I felt like breaking up the horizon with some grass. And the flowers just kind of happened. And it seemed rude to make a game with so many homages to Activision and not add a sunrise. But now is it too much? Need to sit with it for a while. Anyway, I'll fix some bugs and put it up, then I want to do a big refactor to crunch down its rom footprint so I can try to add two-player competitive version. I also got a save key slot from Albert. Lots to do! Thanks again for playing!

  37. Fun Fact: In the late '80s, for a very short time, Pepsi had the 6th largest navy in the world since the USSR traded them billions of dollars worth of ships for Pepsi. Look it up if you don't believe me.

  39. I was organizing my Atari controllers today and came across some NOS Driving controllers. I decided to try and find a new use for them. This is the way.

  40. 32,800 I like this game but it can be really frustratingly punishing. Jumping over the tanks is fun. The arrow - basically just a useless obstacle to avoid although I have used it in the past to jump over all 3 sentinels (or whatever those things are called).
