I'm really looking forward to Austin's RARE stream tonight!

Why wasn't Goonies II just released as Goonies in North America without the roman numerals? We didn't get the first game here.
-
James & Mike play Contra for DOS. Wow, this is bad.

This is so freaking hilarious. https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/a1rhce/speedrunning_super_mario_64/

Gamefaqs message board archives threads way too quickly. The NES board has threads on the first page from a few weeks ago archived.

Level 32 max out in Nintendo Tetris. I don't know how it's humanly possible to play at that speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmz0djfeIVc

Would you consider the Playstation 2 to be a retro or classic console at this point? It's now as old as the Colecovision was when the Playstation 2 came out. And that makes me feel old.

I believe the DC got a honorary retro label due to it was the last console Sega made. It was accepted as retro even before the N64 was. But yes, that is a strange way to define it, if it meant nearly the end of a company it makes people nostalgic, but if the company made enough profit to live on, not so much.

Not classic or retro. It's modern. As modern as one of them Sega Genesis things the kids are all playing now.
Anyway, that shouldn't make you feel old.
What should make you feel old is that we're now as far away from the release of the original Star Wars, as Star Wars was from the middle of the Great Depression.

Kung Fu Heroes deserves mention as one of the hardest NES games. I've been trying for days to beat this, but it gets ridiculous in the later levels.
-
Too bad this Alex Jones Sega CD game isn't real.
-
Anyone watched the "Console Wars" channel on Youtube? It looks like Game Sack has inspired an imitator.
-
"Trojan" is a fun, addictive game. I got it for $1.99 plus shipping and I've had a lot of fun with it. It's like a much better "Rush'n Attack" with sword and shield.
-
I finally no-deathed "Ninja Gaiden." I've always screwed up at least once per game, but I finally did it. Yay.
-
I beat NES "Batman" without a game over! I only lost one life on the fourth stage. This was a tough one to one credit clear. You have to rely on enemy respawns to keep replenishing health.
-
Happy Thanksgiving! BTW, I finally upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 today and it seems to be working fine.
-
The cheapest eBay price for "MUSHA" right now is $300. I remember when I used to rent this for $1 when it came out. I wish I'd bought some copies.
-
I finally beat "Jackal"! And I only had several lives and grenades when I made it to the final boss and took him down. Don't ask me to do it again.

Anyone else have an issue with controller cables kind of twisting and bunching up? Both my Genesis and NES controllers have this issue. I frequently have to straighten my NES controller cable.

I wrap my cables into a loose loop, about the span of my hand, then twist them into a figure-8 and bind them in the middle with a twist tie. I don't use rubber bands (they dry out and leave sticky residue), and I don't use zip ties since they have to be cut off.
The key is to keep the cables loose and free of sharp bends: if you wrap them tightly around the controller or tie them into sheepshank knots, they'll be much harder to straighten.

Made it to act 7 in Ninja Gaiden III. I'm getting so close to beating this. BTW, the bosses in this game are super easy.
-
Made it all the way to act 6 in NES "Ninja Gaiden III" today. I'm so thankful for the extra life you can keep getting in act 5-2. Sometimes this game is generous. Act 6 is a nightmare.
-
The Battletoads "snake pit" is so frustrating. I've been trying to clear the third screen. At least I can get to that level fairly easily without using warps.
-
The $500 "Air Raid" auction thread is comedy gold. I was alerted to it by the Pat the Nes Punk video about it.
-
I nabbed Ninja Gaiden III online for $40. I know why i got it so cheap. I had to clean it a few times to get it to play and it's still kind of finicky, but it plays. And the cart looks good. Egads, this is a tough game. Even getting through the second act is a challenge if you're rusty.

I finally beat "Ninja Gaiden 2" without a game over today. I can't believe I thought this game was hard.

There are some tricky level designs that make the game seem more challenging at first. The environmental conditions take some getting used to.
But it's easier than the first game in a lot of other ways. You get the two clones. With two clones and ninpo you can defeat anything. You now have the fire shield as an item. The last level in NG2 is much easier than act 6 in NG1. The final bosses are also easier, except that I think the second form is still tough with just the sword.

"Lifeforce". Ugh. Once you get killed and lose your upgrades in stage 3, the game is basically over. This game frustrates the heck out of me.
