  1. Yeah, I am not really a software collector, so Atarimania is the best way for me to gauge how rare any of these might be - the guys that maintain that list are quite knowledgeable and do monitor eBay to see how often stuff turns up for sale. And some of the very rare ones are rare for a reason - they are pretty sucky games, so they never sold well. I have set the prices on the auctions such that if anything sells, it is actually worth my trouble to pack and ship. It's a bit of hit or miss with eBay - people do sometimes pay those prices and more for some games. On the other hand, I can't afford to sell games for $0.99, which I am sure many of them would have sold for if I started them all that low - cheaper for me to keep them I mostly collect/fix/tinker with Atari hardware, but every once in a while get some interesting software along with the computers, so if I can sell any of it, it helps offset some of the costs (albeit in the long run rather symbolically - still nice to have something to show the wife That said, here is what did not sell - I'll consider any reasonable offers if anyone's interested (PM me!) 330037096759 Adventure Creator - 1984 Spinnaker - cart - Boxed 330036205531 The Great American Cross-Country Road Race - 1985 Activision - disk - Boxed 330036213544 BC's Quest for Tires - 1983 Sierra On-Line - disk + manual 330036805029 Journey to the Planets - 1982 JV Software - disk + manual 330036807524 Ghost Encounters - 1982 JV Software - disk + manual 330036546770 Slot Trivia - 1982 T&F Software - disk + manual 330036536776 Drol - 1983 Brøderbund - disk 330037091108 Movie Musical Madness - 1984 CBS Software - cart - Boxed 330037094171 Adventure Writer - 1984 CodeWriter - disk - Boxed 330036550589 PuzzlePanic - 1984 Epyx - disk 330036560777 Laser Hawk - 1986 Red Rat Software - disk 330036567531 Zork I - 1982 Infocom - disk 330037076121 Astro Chase - 1982 First Star Software - cart - boxed I will only charge actual shipping if sold here ! 2. One more day left on these auctions. AtariAge forum special - if you win 3 or more items, shipping will be free ! Just mention you saw my auction here. Thanks for looking !
  3. Pokey should be interchangeable. Depending on how old the 400 is it might have the older CTIA (CO12295) chip instead of the new GTIA (CO14805) The CTIA should work in an XL too, but you probably want the GTIA anwyay. The 400/800 also used an older version of the Antic chip (CO12296) vs the newer XL/XE Antic (CO21697) altough some XL's did ship with CO12296 as well, and the older Antic should work on 800XL motherboards as long as they only use 64k bit DRAM chips (some XE's use 256k bit memory chips which I believe can not be refreshed properly with the old Antic) You might have issues if your 800 has upgraded memory (most memory upgrades use 256k bit DRAMs)
  4. One data point which might not be too helpful given the specific systems on your list - I have a Dell 2405FPW which displays excellent quality picture (using S-Video input) from all my NTSC Atari's (including the 800 and a bunch of XL's and XE's) plus also from my PAL 130XE and a NTSC C64c I also have one of the cheap CTX TV-to-VGA converter boxes (TVBox xtra) hooked up to an older LCD monitor at my workbench which replaced a CRT Commodore monitor to save space, but the picture quality from that is attrocious - the color sampling seems to use too few bits resulting in ugly stripes and sharp color transitions in smooth gradients which is very distracting, and the picture is also very fuzzy. However, I mostly use the S-video input on my VIVO ATI card (Sapphire Radeon X800) with DScaler, which if set to the proper resolution matching the input signal (720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL) produces the highest quality picture and can be scaled to any size in a window on my screen - I find this to be the ideal setup, better than having to switch the monitor itself between S-video and DVI inputs, plus it allows for very easy screen captures from the Ataris I also find that using S-video (chroma/luma) output from the Ataris results in far superior picture to composite video in all the above scenarios. The only downside is that the NTSC color artifacting does not work with S-video, so for games which use it I have to switch to composite input instead.

  6. $80-$100 is going rate Looking to buy one or sell one? They seem to be going for a lot less on eBay these days - most of the auctions I have followed recently ended below $50. I only remember 2 over $100, both heavily modified. Here are 2 recent ones I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=140017903524 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=170022029335 Found some more: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=320020277449 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=330021820081 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230018953161 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=170003999904 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=250024253103 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=140010214378 Then again there is this one - I am guessing someone overpaid a little http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=170028383918
  7. One more day left in this auction ! I have also found the original plastic DataSoft Inc. folder, "Programmer's Package" advertisement flyer from DataSoft, and the original DataSoft warranty card that came with the game - all in mint condition. Cool items for someone collecting DataSoft games: So bid early and bid often ! Thanks !
  8. Here are 3 different kinds of CO61982 that I have: The later sealed model - made in Taiwan (this one seems to be the most common, and also the most prone to failure): The oldest XL matching design (my favorite) - made in Hong Kong: The later all-black variation of the above - made in Taiwan: The last 2 are preferable to the first one. I believe there is a 4th type as well, similar to the first one above, which is also sealed and unrepairable, but I don't have any one of those currently. Couple of more pics I had lying around from when I was cleaning the beige one: You can appreciate both the simplicity and the hefty heatsink on the older design, plus the XL matching case is a beauty
  9. Actually newer is not always better. Some of the older Atari power supplies have a better reliability reputation than the newer sealed ones. The ones to look for have a brick-shaped case similar to the XL design (the oldest ones even match it in color with beige top and dark brown bottom, the later ones are all black) These are very simple, vented and can be easily taken apart and fixed if needed. Btw, all the different varieties of the Atari DC 5V/1.5A power supplies have the same part number (CO61982), so that is not enough to distinguish between them.
  10. Are you using the same power supply for both computers ? I would check to make sure the power supply is OK - try different ones if you have spares. I have seen all kinds of strange behavior with the 800XL's and 130XE's when the power suppy begins to go bad, including SIO not working.

  12. Hi, I am a new member here and a new owner of a 130XE with a faulty memory chip (boots straight to memory test). I used a 4164 from one of my working old socketed 800XL's to find the bad chip by piggybacking it over the soldered chips on the 130XE one by one until the memory test passed, and I could boot to BASIC. The 130XE has a mixture of different kinds of memory chips on it, some are NEC 04164C-15 (I assume 150 ns ?), some are Micron 4264-15 (two different types it seems, a 411 and 427, also 150 ns ?) and some are Micron 4264-20 (three different types, 446, 434 and 435, 200 ns?) One of the 4264-20's (bottom right) has been replaced in the past (at least the solder joins look reworked on it, somewhat poorly actually) and the bad chip is also a 4264-20 next to it - bottom left. Was it common for the 130XE's to come with such variety of chips on the same board ? This one was made in Taiwan btw. All of my 800XL's (HK and Taiwan made) come with a set of matching identical chips (older ones are 300ns and newer ones are 150ns) What is the difference between the 4164's and the 4264's - from everything I found they should be interchangeable, but I am still curious why the different designation, and also the 4264's seem much harder to find than the 4164's ? Also is there an ideal speed for the chips ? I see 4164's at anywhere between 100ns to 300ns, I would assume that the lower the better, however is there any harm in using 100ns chips in the 130XE, combined with other 150 and 200 ns ones ? Finally what do you guys recommend as a best source to buy small quantities of these chips inexpensively ? I see them sold on-line in various places anywhere from $0.22 per chip to $5 per chip. Any suggestions/insights are greatly apreciated ! This seems like a very knowledgeable group of Atari-heads Thanks.. ylph.
