Today's the 69 degree day that melted that last little bit of Permafrost that has been in my driveway since mid January!

Kinda liking "Resident Alien".

Since I last flew, I've had titanium implants in my neck, my right knee, then my left knee. Will be interesting next week when I fly.

I was going to tell everyone a joke about the Suez Canal - but I guess that ship has sailed.

Many doctors don't even provide those things any more. The neurosurgeon (neck) said that it doesn't change anything about the process whether security know ahead of time or not. I've been reading accounts online and that certainly seems to be the case. I've heard that the TSA often won't even look at them.
I told my boss who I'm traveling with that I'll need to allow extra time for this. The neck implants are relatively small so may or may not trigger, but the knees will almost certainly set off the metal detector.
Expecting it to be
funa complete pain.

It amazes me that no matter how much stuff I sell without buying anything, the shelves, cupboards etc still don't look particularly empty.

Just took my mandatory COVID test. As painful as usual. Now I have 2 weeks of mandatory self quarantine ahead of me.

Galagon arrived. Hope to get some quality time with it later today.

I'm not particularly good at it. And I wasn't a Galaga player in the arcades. I liked playing the WIP, and was really impressed by the visuals achieved on the 2600, so it really was almost as much about supporting the homebrewers as it was a love of the game.
On the other hand, I wouldn't buy a game I didn't like just to support the cause. I mean, I'll buy multiple boxes of Thin Mints, but I'm not spending good money on those nasty coconut things.

Just noticed that Galagon is now available without the $15 box. As promised, it's on order. $50 was just too much for me.
Is the full ROM available to put on my Harmony? -
My immune system can beat up your virus, thankfully. Not a pleasant time to be sure, but not the sickest either of us have ever felt. Over it now. Overall, we're feeling blessed.

Honestly, this is the type of outcome I suspected I'd have if I ever got it. But I have to admit that the timing, immediately following the non-trivial trauma and invasion of knee-replacement surgery did have me a bit concerned.
Surgery Monday. Covid Wednesday. It was apparently incubating but undetectable via the pre-op PCR test Friday at 5:30 PM.
Thankfully, i didn't share it with any of the surgical team or post-op care team.

Had it not been for several co-workers with similar symptoms, and with timelines slightly ahead of mine testing positive at various labs, I would have learned toward the false positive theory.
While it wasn't the worst I've felt in my life, it was the worst I've felt in at least 30 years. I just don't ever feel sick. So, it was definitely something unusual.

Things were better, in the past.

For those that give a rat's ass, ebay has over 4,000 Apple II items for sale. Highest it's ever been. As are the prices too!

The 25 year old Maytag Neptune washer lives to wash another day. $130 for the part, but that's a lot better than buying a new washer...and of course a matching dryer would be necessary. I hear the new machines sacrifice effectiveness in the name of "efficiency".

I have had a motor control circuit board fail on the washer. Cost about $2 to replace a bad FET and resistor. But the board would have been $300. It has fairly sophisticated motor controls.
I was surprised at how tiny the pump motor is. It turns out it's a permanent magnet motor. It actually still runs. A piece of bra underwire managed to get through the drum at some point years ago, based on it being rusted into two pieces. Once I found it and removed it, the pump worked fine. I noticed a little side play in the shaft so opted to replace the pump. It wasn't leaking despite the play in the shaft.
Other than that, the only problem I had was the knob failing to turn the *mechanical* timer. I fixed that with less than a dollar's worth of o-rings and epoxy.
In 25 years, I have had zero leak issues. The belt still looks good. I don't recall ever replacing it.
If this unit died and this exact model were still available, I'd buy it in an instant.
Unfortunately, everything you guys say about front loaders seems to be the absolute truth about the newer models. Even the next generation of the Neptune scares me silly.

I was working on a vintage graphics card. And I used tweezers to remove the jumper settings jumper. And the jumper jumped outta the tweezer and twanged across the room, hit the wall, then hit the ceiling. And landed somewhere and I couldn't find it. Shit. A vintage card now inoperative. I started looking for a spare in my pile and after 1/2 hour later I found the baggie containing them. Sat down to work and this thing fell outta my hair. It was the original jumper! Woot!

Trying my hand at Texas brisket tomorrow for Sunday dinner.

Even if I actually have to worry about work and getting my coffee, etc.; When I wake up on Saturday mornings, I feel like I should be watching cartoons!

"We" make brisket wrapped in heavy foil, with liquid smoke, celery seed, other spices and baked in the oven for a long time. Is Texas Brisket like that? Or are you using real smoke? As much as I like the oven baked, liquid smokey kind and could eat it all day, the real wood smoked kind is even better.

Speed Buggy.
Scooby Doo.Hong Kong Phooey.
etc.
I remember how exciting it was to watch the previews of the upcoming season of cartoons in prime time!Yeah, I'm not sure why everything has to be overtly educational. I'm also not sure why certain people tried to say that cartoons like the Road Runner were too violent and should be banned. I knew physics didn't work that way. Were kids getting hurt by dropping anvils off cliffs onto one another's heads? Were other kids really that much stupider than I was?
