  1. Update: Neptune's Daughters just arrived from Cardiff, UK. The seller was a great guy, and also included a free game of my choice that he let me choose from a list (I chose Mr. Dig). He also offered me some interesting info. Since at the time I was wondering if it came in a cardboard box, I asked if he had the game since it was new, and this is what he said:

Hello, I acquired the cassette but came with many, did have a sticker on the front saying if returned return both games, the other game was Dan strikes back, same publisher so maybe was sent as a double pack or mail order, but no box came with it, I still have the case somewhere with sticker on so I'll take a look at it later, cheers Paul

He also included the empty case. Was Dan Strikes Back originally in that plain case? If they were packaged as a double game, what kind of packaging held them together? This is quite interesting, and I will be sending him another message. Anyway, here's the pics:

  2. I understand that there may be some variables here, but for the most part, did the cassettes come as is, or did they also come in a nice cardboard box? The reason I'm asking is because I'm a Big Box collector, and I'm trying to find a box for Neptune's Daughters. The problem might be that I'm looking for something that never existed though, so I need some help. Thanks in advance!

As already said on these threads, MIDI is more than alive.  The only reason we are seeing less of MIDI over DIN only now, is due to the advent and push of MIDI 2.0.  Similarly, as already stated, this can be mitigated by a proper MIDI to USB host for any MIDI USB device which is class compliant, the most notable of which is arguably by Kenton: https://kentonuk.com/product/midi-usb-host-mk3/

You may have to make some compromises as others have suggested, such as the number of keys, adding a MIDI to USB host, looking at a Synth to grow into rather than a Keyboard aimed at the beginner for example.  However cost will of course be a factor, but food for thought, maybe something from Korg as an example. Take a look at the Korg Kross 2, it’s an example of something new worth considering depending on what you may want to compromise on, which may be near your budget.

Thanks, I see that now! I'm so glad that I was mistaken. :) I've decided to get two keyboards: One a mini, that doesn't have to have MIDI ports, and one full sized, 88 key keyboard with MIDI. I will keep looking for good ones. I've heard good things about Korg's. My friend got her ex one for Christmas, 2002. She still remembers the model, a Korg Karma. Says she paid like $1,500 for it from Sam Ash. 😲

I've used and still have a Roland S50 that I got simply as a controller that I paid just under $100 for and it came with a hard case. Not idea to really use it as the synth itself since the sound is so dated but running it through a proper Roland 1080 or 2080 with some sort of FX processor is gold!

Is that the one with the floppy drive? Damn, that's a great deal and it still works!

  4. So keyboards today no longer have the duel MIDI in and out ports? I'm looking for a decent one with 88 keys, and so far they all have that USB MIDI port instead. If they stopped making them, when was the last year that they were made? See this thread:

The game is called "nullmira" and I developed it with Omikron.Basic 3.03.

Those of you who overcome the language barrier might find a quite well balanced game with

a lot to discover and plenty of game depth, for an atari ST homebrew-game that is 😉

Wow, that looks awesome! I would love to play it on my STacy. Any plans for an English patch? If not I will play it with a close friend who is German.

Your warzone.prg is toast. It's either corrupt or truncated somehow, as it doesn't look like a valid TOS program. However, a few seconds of googling gave me a valid Serenade #27 download link (triggered by your video): https://demozoo.org/productions/75580/

...however, this won't work on TOS 2.06 that your MSTE has (at least, I assume you have 2.06 - do you get the Atari logo while booting?).

Luckily, both programs are in STOS and it so happens that I've written a program that attempts to patch STOS profixes.zipgrams for newer TOS versions. It worked here for Saddam, but Warzone was still not working. So I patched that by hand (as I did not fancy trying to debug my fixer).

Attached are the results. To recap:

    - Run PATCH22.PRG before running SADDAM.PRG and everything should work

    - Run WARZONE.PRG and if you have TOS 2.06 it should run normally

Hope this works for you, enjoy! (Or let me know if something is not working)

Ok, I finally ran Warzone, but the only way that I could get it to run was in Hatari using TOS 1.62 and Serenade loaded and booting from A. When running it as a standalone, I get "TOS error #35". When running your patched file, I get "Error #048". Still, it was fun to play after all these years, even though it differs from my old version (it wasn't a demo and that title screen wasn't there). If you can figure out how to get it running on TOS 2.06 (or can find the my version), please let me know!

Wow, thanks for that! Playing Saddam Shoot for the first time since the 90's! Works great! Repetitive, but works! :)

Yes, I have TOS 2.06 on my Mega STe. A TOS switcher is what I would really love, if I don't have to modify my case by drilling.

As for Warzone, I did see that file in a search, but like I said, mine was different with no elaborate title screen, so I passed on it. Nevertheless, since mine is toast, I decided to go for it. I can't getyour patched file to work for anything, so I tried the one in the link. Oddly enough, warzone.prg in your link didn't work on anything either. I even tried in in Hatari on an STe running 1.62, and a regular ST with EmuTOS. Not enough memory errors, no matter how much I add.

  8. Any idea how I can download Multi Game for the ST? It's 5 games in one. I had it on an old disk but the only thing that remains is the disk and label. Doing a Google search brought me just one result, this:

    https://archive.org/stream/current-notes-volume-15-number-1-january-february-1995/Current_Notes_Volume_15_Number_1_January_February_1995_djvu.txt

    pede, Breakout, Setrys)

  9. Two files in question:

The first is WARZONE.PRG. It was the first game that I ever downloaded, back on GEnie on May 12, 1993 (file still has the date). I had it saved all of these years. When I first downloaded it, it ran on my Atari 1040 STe running TOS 1.62. My real hardware today is a Mega STe, but whenever I try to run it, I get TOS error #35, which worries me. I have tried running it on Hatari using TOS1.62 on the virtual STe (and other configurations) to no avail. It is a Scorched Earth type of game. I have seen it online, but that isn't my version. It did not have a fancy title screen. Can anyone get it to work? This one is pretty sentimental, even though it's extremely obscure.

Here is Warzone (as stated, not my version, and mine was freeware)

The second game is Saddam Shoot. I still have my original, and even downloaded another I found online. It crashes with bombs on every configuration. Here it is:

    https://www.atarilegend.com/games/saddam-shoot

I have attached both files. Please help. :D

Keep in mind, anything a little bigger is mostly okay, they can be trimmed to fit. I did this,

and covered the part I cut with clear fingernail polish to protect it. I also powered mine

off the STacy's original P/S, thus eliminating the need for the inverter. However, if your

STacy's P/S doesn't make the el sheet bright enough, you might have to look at other

options. Mine was good enough for me.

Having said that, it's been *years* since I did this and it's starting to fade again. I'm

told this is normal for el sheets, they will grow dim over time. I'm not going to replace

it with another el sheet, although that would be the cheapest and easiest thing for me

    to do.

The next time I open my STacy up (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for early summer),

I'm going to attempt the modification from this thread:

    https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=40201

Make sure you read all the way through it. I know, it's quite long but worth it.

Towards the last few pages, you'll be able to find links to either partially assembled

or fully assembled kits, although soldering and work on the STacy will still have to

    be done.

    HTH's...  :)

Wow, that's insane! I haven't read through all of it, but the finalized picture is flat out amazing! Did you get the parts? I saw your post saying that your order was canceled and you ordered again. Also, what is the total list of things I'd need to buy? The screen, connectors, 3D printed brackets, and what else? I sure wish there was a video out there, not sure if I can do it, but it's easier if I only use high-resolution. I sure wish I could pay someone that I trusted to do it for me. :)

Here's a pic of my STacy. It is 100% original. The seal underneath hasn't even been broken. What do you think? Screen still decent for 35 years old or so? Bonus: spot the MSTe in the background if you can. :D

Er, just making sure I'm not reading that wrong... Do you mean as in RAM? If so, one doesn't have anything

to do with the other, as far as I know. If you mean does the Mega STe's battery save things like machine

settings/states, then I don't think so either. The Mega STe has dip switches inside to set things like whether 720k

floppy formatting options or 1.44meg HD shows up.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can answer this better...

Yeah, I was asking if using the US's battery instead has any disadvantages, since I have to put that RTC program in boot.

    6 hours ago, Atari030 said:

You don't need anything special for a MegaSTE/TT battery. They are pretty easy to DIY on the cheap. You could probably use a CR2032 and make a holder for it. It can be done for under $10.

The battery is purely RTC, it doesn't have NVRAM like a Falcon.

Yeah, I could easily do it, but is it necessary? As long as the US's battery is working fine, is there any reason to change it?

Did you ever get around to doing it? If yes, how hard is it, and are the instructions in that thread doable for most? Any videos?

First, I am curious why a teenager would "steal" information from a corporate computer system. What possible value would it be without mechanism to sell it to a competitor? Identity theft was not really a thing in 1984, so payroll data (name, address, SSN) would not be very useful either. There was no "dark web" on which to sell this information.

Second, I find it very odd that a serving prisoner -- even in juvenile detention -- would have access to current video game magazines, much less that the prisoner would be allowed to submit a letter thereto.

He could have stole it for what he considered fun, which could be the same reason why he changed the finances (if he's real, big if). As for the letter, he theoretically could have given it to his mom, or told her to write it when she was visiting, although I'm not sure why that would be on his mind in dire times.

There is a game called Match-It for the ST that I have been playing for years!  I stumbled on it via a public domain compilation floppy disk, and have been playing it for over 10 years.  Sadly, I use my MISTer as well as Hatari on the PC now, as I do not have a real ST at the moment, but the game is awesome.    Uses Mahjong tiles, but instead of building them in a 3D pyramid, it is laid out in a grid of various sizes depending on the level, and you have to remove pairs with only two bends in the connection line.  Very fun and exciting.  Written by Marko Feikert in GFA Basic.   image.thumb.png.1b5bc623c05c494823c25018b8905974.png

For some reason, the version I have is called Take-Two. Fun, but I don't like that the timer is so fast.

Little Green File selector (replacement file selector)

Maccel ( mouse acceleration and simple screen saver) (you might want to go with NVDI instead)

    PINHEAD (makes everything load faster)

And a whole lot more. It just depends on how involved you want to get.  You also want to have at least XCONTROL.ACC and the various CPX's (control panel extensions) that are very useful. From

there, you can check your speed, blitter, cache on/off etc,...

    Thanks, I'll check them out!

    2) Now that you've got working, reliable mass storage space, go to P.Pera's website:

    https://atari.8bitchip.info/fromhd3.php?s=n#DL

and download over 1600+ games that have been fixed for newer versions of TOS, increased RAM and able to run on hard drives. Many also have trainers and scanned in intro pictures

of the games box cover. Good stuff.

I should have been more specific, I am looking for PD/Shareware games and utilities, especially those from the late 80's to mid 90's. I put this time frame as the golden years of Public Domain, and need to get a few that I had back. That link's list, while amazing, seems to be commercial.

You can buy the right color (or at least very, very close). I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Those STL files

are free to use so yeah, everyone can do this just for the cost of printing it out. No greedy "middle-men" or

mega corporations need be involved...!  :)

I don't own a 3D printer at the moment, and even if I did, I'd rather just pay someone so it comes out perfect. :D

  17. Has anyone ever heard of or used this utility (or the company)? Seems everyone here knows about Sysinfo, but The STatiSTician is totally off the radar. I found out about it in late October on Facebook, though some PM's finally tracked down a good link. Seems pretty useful. Anyway, I'm providing the link and attaching the software as well, for future preservation and remembrance. Enjoy!
