  1. I assume they just had a warehouse still full of 'em. It's stuff like this that always messes with my memory of the video game "crash," as my parents still scored 5200 games at least thru 1984 and possibly later.
  2. Hey, at least you've maintained a sense of humor thru this debacle.
  3. Maybe we should invite him here to dogpile on him. Well, surely Atari Age wouldn't allow something that petty.
  4. God, everyone loves Animal Crossing. I believe I have maybe the GameCube version, but it never really grabbed me. Maybe if I had unlimited time on my hands.
  5. My family bought Wicos. That or replacements was all you could do.
  6. Bought a ton of Switch games during this uh... hiatus? Anyway; strictly the last three I played were Red Death (neat little shmup) Sky Racket (kind of a cross between a shmup and a brick breaker) Doom 64 Before this, I had been playing (well simming) a lot in Fire Pro Wrestling on PS4, and going back to Tetris Effect
  7. The install base will be miniscule, tho'.
  8. You just shook a traumatic memory loose from my brain. I loved Govellius on the Master System (still do). It was an action RPG in the Zelda(ish) style with a password save. Anyway, I was probably, I dunno, nine? Ten? The way the game worked was that, essentially, it was fairly linear, but you could sequence break (for lack of a better term) to a degree, as you could travel to most areas on your own accord (with some exceptions). For most of the stuff in the game, there were three levels of power or quality and whatever you bought was automatically equipped; there was no inventory system. One day, I was curious what would happen if I bought the best sword in the game (after a ridiculous amount of grinding) and then went back later and bought the second best sword. It crashed the game and I had to go back to whatever the last password was. I think I didn't play Govellius again for weeks.
  9. Not a huge N64 fan, but when I finally got one a few years back, I did get Doom 64. I'm not a huge FPS guy, but I do like them up to, I dunno, maybe Quake? Anyway, I did really like Doom 64 when I got it, except for the terrible, terrible gamma settings where I would literally have to turn up the brightness to an unacceptable level on the TV itself to play it. Frankly, that was a big enough pain that I wouldn't play it very often. Anyway, I can't imagine every playing that version again. This Switch version is excellent. Plays great, you can actually SEE it... great job by all involved. Just a really good Doom.
  10. I'm having a hard time lately deciding between taking the high road and staying out of fights or taking the low road and trying to get the last word. Maybe they teach you these crucial life skills in executive school?

Oof! It’s bullshit the kind of leeway this guy gets by his fan club in the mod scene.

  11. Midway Arcade Treasures seems like a natural fit for Switch. Maybe it bombed in the last release? I hope not; that was an enjoyable collection.
  12. I like FPS controls like I like my love life; slow and all thumbs. Waitaminute.
  13. There are some fun Atari compilations that have a variety of arcade and 2600 games that can probably be had for cheap these days. Three volumes in all
  14. They're a bit overpriced but great deals when they go on sale. Love that they often give you options to play the Japanese versions or caravan versions for some of the shumps.
  15. Absolutely, but try telling that to, well, anyone. MoRE FLOPS = MoRe FPS
  16. "Scarred" might not be the right word, but I recall beating Fantasy Zone II and being sad because the final villain turned out to be Opa Opa's dad. My parents came home right after I won, and my dad was incredulous to see that I was choked up. "Did a GAME make you cry?" I spat out that the ending involved killing my own father, but I don't recall what his reaction was to this vital information.
  17. Demo Racer is a criminally underrated game, btw. We loved it on PlayStation and flipped out when we found out there was a Dreamcast version.
  18. Hopefully including some balanced gamma settings.
  19. Two less teraflops than XBox RIP Sony!!! *sigh* Besides this seemingly prevalent fannish reaction, which I've seen pretty much everywhere, the thing I was most interested in by far was the state of backward compatibility... which frankly seems fairly preliminary. I was really hoping they would have everything (save maybe PS3) good to go right out of the box.
  20. I went to the Internet Game Cars Database (yes, there is such a thing) and still couldn't find the answer (it's not SEGA GT). I mean, there's a pretty limited number of games on DC that have real cars... and most.of the cars are in Japanese games and therefore have Japanese.makes
  21. Betcha it was SEGA GT. That has dozens of cars
  22. Mario / Rabbids ended up being way, way more fun than I would have guessed.
  23. Well, if MVG doesn't like it, he'll say so... and he said he paid for it, so it's not like they're sending him a free unit... but it still rubs me the wrong way (as did Jeremy Parrish putting it over or Coury from MLiG and John from Digital Foundry). Even if the unit is somehow PERFECT, they took people's money and set on it for a year and a half with little to no communication.
  24. Irritating to see another YouTube personality I like well enough (MVG) giving this thing the time of day. Quit aiding and abetting this thing.
