  1. I think that the reason that Apple II info is not as well organized as info for the C64 or ST is because it was mainly popular in the US. If there's one thing about the US that would affect the system's lack of organized info and emulation quality, it would probably be this country's individualist culture. The US seems to be much more individualist than any other Western country in the first world, so people here might not always get along as well and could be more prone to hoarding, because there's not as much pressure to give something back to the group. Just my two coppers.
  2. Could you repost that somewhere else? I'd kinda like to see it. Anyway, my favorite's either Robbit from the Jumping Flash series or Sonic The Hedgehog (as portrayed by Roger Craig Smith).
  3. I'm talking about all those myriad console and shareware games that seemingly nobody cares to talk about, but you still really like for some reason. The ones I've specifically been thinking about are the low-rent, unknown freeware games Dumbo's Adventure http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f1563.html and Turbo Lode http://eicart.free.fr/turbolode/index.htm I don't know about the rest of you, but there's something about those games that clicks with me. They have this very surreal, mesmerizing quality that I can't really put my finger on. What are yours?
  4. Saturn for NiGHTS. No other Saturn game we have can hold a candle to its staying power, although my brother plays Sonic 3D Blast on it quite a bit. I was going to buy a 360 for Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddeon, but then it got released on the PC, and the PC version ran well enough on my crappy integrated graphics that I deemed it acceptable. Now I want a PC with better 3D performance to play Sonic Generations at a constant 60 FPS in 3D and full HD, as my current PC runs it like a slideshow half the time.
  5. FM-Towns Marty: Proof that the FM Towns always worked better as a game console. Atari Lynx: Excellent selection of games, despite the lack of quantity and breadth of styles. Was too powerful for its own good when it first came out. Amiga: The only personal computer that could be a game system equally well.
  6. I know someone on Youtube who talked about the Naughty Dog-era Crash Bandicoot games in a similar way to this.
  7. 1995-2001, or the fifth console generation. Very interesting period with video games all going 3D, with the rise of the 3D platformer laying the groundwork for the sandbox games and third person RPGs of today. Meanwhile, the PC side was going through an even more complete transition to CD-ROM. It was also the era where 3D accelerator cards became mainstream in personal computers around the world, with several different competitors vying for their share of the market.
  8. Not really something you can go out and buy, but I'd really recommend Sonic Megamix if you have a Sega CD and have one or more spare CD-Rs. It is... awesome. Just see for yourself: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Megamix
  9. Another confession: I wanted to play a game so badly that I pirated it when it was new. I plan to pay for it some time, though.
  10. It's... an acquired taste. It's probably worth playing if you really like unconventional platform games.
  11. http://www.gb64.com/game.php?id=11560&d=18 It's called "Fix It!" and looks like the closest predecessor to The Incredible Machine I can find. It probably didn't play a role in inspiring that game, but it's interesting to see that a very similar game existed seven years before.
  12. Multiplayer Bomberman in reverse is about two janitors who clean up bombs left behind from fire clouds which randomly appear. Sometimes, these clouds leave behind other janitors in their wake. Kirby in reverse features Kirby eating stars, which he spits out as vicious creatures which wreak havoc on the land. He heals cosmic horrors literally by sucking out their wounds through his fists or as projectile weapons. However, the cosmic horrors have eventually decided it is not worth their time attacking Pop Star, as they seem to have gotten less and less aggressive as they have gone there, and eventually the only evil being left for Kirby to help is a corrupt, but lazy and clumsy penguin. In reverse, Mega Man betrays Dr. Light every time. The Incredible Machine in reverse is about the systematic dismantling of Rube Goldberg machines. Spyro in reverse is about an extremist who fights for the cause of nonsentients by sucking out their wounds, which manifest as fire. He also gives the NPCs useless items and then performs random acts of crime towards them in the spirit of the cause. Robbit Mon Dieu (You probably don't know what that is, so see review at http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/198497-robbit-mon-dieu/reviews/review-49079) in reverse is about a robot who revives a dangerous and powerful alien, and then stows away on a spaceship. He periodically gets off to perform petty crime. Electronic Arts' Create in reverse has the end goal of restoring everything back to its original state. Earth Defense Force in reverse is about a grand urban renewal project performed in collaboration between soldiers and giant insects. Pac-man in reverse is about someone who vomits dots almost continuously and chases after ghosts, all while running backwards. De Blob in reverse is about a being made of paint who sucks out all the color in a city in an attempt to become more colorful himself. It doesn't work. In reverse, NiGHTS is on Wizeman's side and eventually succeeds in giving two children nightmares. Warhammer 40k in reverse is about mass acts of spontaneous creation across all corners of the galaxy. In reverse Monopoly, players sell everything they own. Nobody buys it, so they all lose money. However, they will always end up with the same amount of money every time. Scrabble in reverse involves people taking turns lifting tiles off of a game board. Pitfall and Montezuma's revenge in reverse are both about people who are on a guilt trip and returning all of their stolen treasures to exactly where they found them. The Game & Watch game "Fire" in reverse is about two firefighters who throw people up into burning buildings. In reverse Sonic 3, Sonic and Tails keep losing all of their Chaos Emeralds, until a helpful echidna gives them back. In reverse, Sonic Generations is about a blue hedgehog and his former self screwing up the space-time continuum.
  13. I really, really wish there was an Atariage download service. I'm just really tired of missing out on all these limited run games that I can never afford. And are never released on ROM websites so I can play them.
  14. Space Station Silicon Valley has an excellently campy soundtrack which sets the mood perfectly and is very well composed. I also really like the Naughty Dog-era Crash Bandicoot soundtracks, particularly the first and third games. They're very underrated, well produced sets of music, especially the soundtrack for the first game with its quasi-ambient but subtly catchy nature. Other favorite soundtracks of mine: Bomberman 64: The Second Attack (N64) Chuck Rock 2: Son of Chuck (Amiga) Mega Man V (NES) Mega Man 10 (X360, Wii, PS3, PC?) Croc 2 (GBC) Bubsy Fractured Furry Tails (Jag)
  15. Many of my most recently beaten games are for very young kids. And I felt proud to have beaten them. I seldom finish any game I st- And that's it
  16. to be honest ive got like 30 sega cartridges and like 20 sega cds in cases weird titles also like 2 units and sega scd things that sit on top of the sega i have hooked em up and played some also got cords and some wierd 32x stuff man it was just a huge box of a lota sega stuff heck id have to call ya on the phone and start reading everything off to ya or ill make a list soon and post it here Jon Could you please put punctuation in your posts next time its harder to read them as a run on sentence like this
  17. I don't think you can get a power adapter for these. You'll either have to hack one up yourself (or get someone else to hack one up for you) or stock up on batteries.
  18. Do you think compression technologies of the time would have been enough to allow the cartridge to hold all that information? I know Resident Evil 2 was on two discs on the Playstation, and I think they managed to compress at least most of that onto an N64 cartridge (with somewhat grainy quality). Maybe they would have had to cut out an age and/or take lots of shortcuts with real time and precalculated rendering. What do you think?
  19. I personally think Commodore USA's next machine should be based on the Minimig or Turbo Chameleon 64, just for authenticity's sake. It would lose the raw speed and compatibility of a PC, though, so maybe a hybrid system could be manufactured.
