"Garfield History"
In October 2, 1978, the Chicago Sun-Times, abruptly discontinued printing future Garfield strips in their comic section. However the absence of the tabby was brief. The backlash of the paper doing so was astounding! Thousands of angry subscribers/non-subscribers demanded to reinstate Garfield back onto the comic page. Two weeks later, Garfield was in circulation again for the Chicago citizens to continue reading his material.
Once Garfield was back with the Chicago Sun-Times, Jim Davis created a special edition Garfield strip about the situation it was having in that two week period, while thanking his Chicago fans that supported Garfield and enjoying the material on a daily basis.
Fun Fact: Garfield was less than 4 months old since it's debut in June of that year. His popularity was skyrocketing that even the Chicago Sun-Times feared that if they didn't listen to the demands, they would've lost it's daily readers in droves. Another interesting note is this happens to be Garfield's first strip of him walking on two legs and featured exclusively for the Chicago Sun-Times edition first.

Entering the last decade of the 19th century, Chicago, New York, Philly, DC, and a couple other cities were in direct competition for the Upcoming World's Fair. New York and Chicago having the greatest chance naturally took to mudslinging using the local and national papers. New York publishing that "Across the lake a great wind from Chicago blows," forevermore naming Chicago as the Windy City.
Apparently, twice from Chicago a great wind blew. Once for a fair that would become one of the greatest marvels of advancement in all of humanity and once because our beloved orange cat was removed from a newspaper's comic page.
