  1. Yeah, Super Cobra 2000! The music is awesome and gameplay seems spot on. That sound though... this game sounds fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more of it.
  2. It kinda reminds me of kicking enemies outta the screen on the game Last Battle, for the Sega Genesis.
  3. LOL, Space Hill and Grid Runners... at least mention games that actually exist on the 3DO. And Rayman lacking the "clarity" of 3DO games... i dont know what to make out of this post. What do you say Madman, the "fumes" seem to be strong with this one.
  4. Its arguable which has the better library of games. But i feel the Jaguar has more interesting exclusives. Also, most of the game that appeared on both systems, are better on the Jaguar. And there is of course the homebrew releases, the Jag has tons of stuff, 32X unfortunately has close to nothing (Chilly Willy were are youuuu?). Sucked to have either of them as your primary next-gen game system BITD, but at least the 32X had the awesome Sega Genesis library to fall back into.
  5. Just tried the game on a tv, thanks to a GBA to Super Nes adapter. You are right guys, the cars are 3d. There are a lot of interesting recing game engines on GBA. But i think this is the only one using flat shadded polygons?
  6. Didnt want to keep being OT in the CPS2 to Jaguar ports thread. So i will post this here: This is a pretty cool engine for the GBA, another system with no dedicated 3d hardware. It uses flat shadded polygons for the tracks, but cars seem to be prerendered. From the look and feel of it, it seems to be doing a similar trick to The Need for Speed and Crash and Burn on 3DO. What was the term? Hot Wheel Stunt Track Challenge for Game Bot Advance: Like those games, you cant turn around your car and race backwards, kinda feels like being on rails. Also, not many trackside objects to interact with. But it runs prety nice and plays well.
  7. Well, tha Jaguar has its fumes, i guess the 32X is about shrooms?
  8. I am no expert, but since Virtua Racing was a first generation title, and Virtua Fighter came out much later, i guess the Virtua Fighter engine is more complex?. There is also the flight sims: Star Wars Arcade and also Stellar Assault which is one of the most impressive games on the system. 32X like the Jag had a pretty short life span, we probably didnt get to see it pushed to its full potential.
  9. I just tought you might be confusing the 32X version, with the Sega Saturn one. The Saturn version has a higher level of geometry and a better frame rate. But i never liked the handling on Saturn, i feel that the 32X version plays better.
  10. Really?, we are talking Sega 32X Virtua Racing Deluxe here, not the Saturn version (although 32X version plays better). The polygon engine, from what i have read, is all software rendering. Thats because the 32X has no dedicated 3d hardware. Its all done with the 2 32-bit Hitachi SH2, at 23 MHZ, 20 MIPS each. Rendering to a frame buffer with 256KB. The Sega Genesis helps the 32X on that game by rendering the 2d background layers and playing the music. And thats "if" Virtua Racing Deluxe is taking advantage of the 2 CPUs, there are rumors that many games used only one. Plus its a first generation game for the 32X. It runs at 20FPS, which feels like heaven compared with the Jaguars Checkered Flag and F1 World Tour Racing. Is that rendering aproach not optimal with the way the Jaguar is designed? Are Tom and Jerry comparable speed wise to the twin SH2s on the 32X?. Plus the Jag gives you much more RAM at 2MB, and some help from the Motorola CPU. Would the GPU, Blitter, DSP combo working to its fullest really be needed for Virtua Racing DX 32X?
  11. Yeah, i think Primal Rage could have been a bit better on the Jaguar. I doubt Probe went all out with that port for a system that was a failure. About Rayman and Metal Slug, they are very diferent engines. Metal Slug throws a ton of very well animated sprites at once. And there are a ton of art assets on each level. Rayman in comparison is slower, there is less stuff going on and there are way more repeating tiles on the backgrounds. On the other hand Rayman is more colorful, and runs at 60 fps, while MS runs at 30 fps with a bit slowdown here and there. I think the Jag would be better for a Contra type game than Metal Slug. You know, focus on having a ton of medium animated sprites with lots of 2d effects and faster gameplay, rather than the slower MS, which is more animation and art heavy. About the ROM limits, i meant back in the day, Atari would not use big cart sizes due to cost issues. And if you went CD ROM, you would be more limited by RAM. And about RAM, dont be fooled by the Neo Geo 84k video ram, 64k of working ram and 2k of sound ram that you mention. From what i understand, It can basically access the whole content of those huge carts, like it was onboard RAM. Thats why even more powerful consoles like Saturn and Playstation had trouble with NG ports.
  12. Primal Rage on the Jaguar was not a "huge" improvement over the SNES and Genesis versions, but it would have been nice to see Samurai Shodown and Super Street Fighter 2 get the same level of improvement that Primal Rage was over the SNES/Geny ports. That would have been enough for me back in the day. Stuff from Samurai Spirits/ Fatal Fury 2 Special and backwards probably should turn out pretty nice on the Jaguar. Stuff after that generation of software on Neo Geo probably got too big for the Jaggys limited ROM/RAM. Not that i can do anything with it, hehe, but what are the specs of the Raptor engine when it comes to sprites, background planes, colors, sound channels, etc?
  13. Didnt know this. Interesting. But no, zero coding skills or knowledge here, hehe.
  14. Cannon Dancer / Osman: Outrunners: If only the 3D/polygons revolution had come a bit later. Tons of incredible 2d arcade games from the mid-90s never got home ports. Way too many to list.
  15. Oh you hater... why dont you check out Checkered Flag and Club Drive before making such assumptions
  16. Dont tell me you are looking into trying to port those games! You got my blessing man, get on to it! Sign me up for 2 copies of each!!! You rock!
  17. Game Fan were big fans of the Jaguar early on, but ended up hating on it, unfortunately. They were my favorite mag, until Dave Harvelson (E. Storm) left.
  18. Yeah, people noticed it decades ago, hehe. Actually it often gets mentioned on those sadeness youtube videos. What do they say: "imitation is the finest form of flattery". There are tons of videogame tracks inspired on "real" music. Some more blatant than other, Supercross 3D anyone? And yeah, to me SOR 1 and 2 offer some of the finest videogame tracks ever, not only are the compositions great, but they make great use of the Sega Genesis sound hardware. Call me weirdo, but i am a big fan of Sega Genesis music, i often find myself listening to more Genesis tracks than "real" music, hehe. I wonder how some of the great "6 FM and 4 PSG channels combo music" would translate to the Jaguar sound hardware...
  19. Even the Sega Genesis Virtua Racing would be a huge improvement over CF.
  20. Neither did Shenmue for the Dreamcast...unfortunately in both cases, hehe. And that one had a ton of publicity behind it. I dont think there is a chance in hell that BIWN would have ended up being as good as those games, let alone save the Jaguar. Looked really cool, though.
  21. The Lynx demo is Ghosts and Goblins, the first in the series. Most people remember it for the popular NES version. It would be a awesome to have a Lynx version that fixed all the technical issues with the NES port. The Lynx should have the power for better scrolling and sprite handling than the NES port, i would hope.
