  1. Man, if I hit that Powerball I would probably give that guy the $60K for his collection. http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15179
  2. You're 200% right LinkoVitch. That's why I never use "rare" in my search descriptions.
  3. I have to disagree. Having to watch Billy Squier is the absolute worst way to spend your teenage years. I was a teen then too. I put on MTV for the chicks but with the sound down. I put on the Ramones for listening.
  4. The emulation is pretty good. The sound is only weird on certain games, particularly on the opening music of Pressure Cooker. I noticed a little bit of slow down on some games also but not too drastic. All in all it's pretty good. I just wanted to try burning a cdr for my DC, for most games I'll stick with a real Stella.
  5. My biggest disappointment was Activision Space Shuttle. As a kid I couldn't figure out how to get it to do much. Now as an adult I realize it's a pretty cool little sim but I had dreams of super cool space piloting. Frankly I found all of the Star Raiders, Star Master, Spacemaster X-7 type of space games disappointing too. From the box art and magazine descriptions I expected WAY more.
  6. Thanks, this is the info I was following and it definetely does not work according to these buttton mappings listed. Unfortunately I'm at work also so I can't try that trigger combo you mentioned until later. If you can find the correct info that would be kick ass. As usual the AtariAge forums are a wealth of info and help.
  7. I downloaded Nero and DC Stella 2d and made my cdr of them. It booted up perfectly but I can't figure out how to access game reset or game select for most of the games. Games that start with the joystick button are fine although still no game select options. I have tried every button on my standard DC controller and even tried switching controller ports. According to dcemulation.com, the start button on the dc contoller is the reset button but I get the options (rom list, turn power off, etc.) menu. I have burned more copies and still get the exact same result. Has anybody else encountered this? Thanks in advance!
  8. Part of the problem (besides the price) with this type of collection is that a buyer might be paying for lots of things he/she already has and doesn't want to pay for again. If you broke the collection up you could probably sell it in a few large chunks and get near that $60K. I think otherwise, your hardcore collectors are going to pass even if they had the money. If I had the dough and my wife wouldn't castrate me, I'd make you an offer!
  9. I'm putting this in classic gaming because it effects every system. I hit a bunch of local garage sales over the weekend(nothing good for sale) and I have to say there are some things that make me crazy. 1. The people who follow me around "explaining" the stuff I'm looking at. I don't actually care about the broken coffeepot lady, I'm looking at the Picnic cart propping it up. 2. The people who ask me what I'm looking for and when I say any old video games or old computer stuff, they ask me, "Why? Who wants old Atari stuff?" Me, that's who, why did you ask? 3. The no price tag dance contest. I ask how much, they ask what do I think it's worth. I say $1, they say that's not enough but obvciously want me to offer more. I ffer $2 they act like I insulted their mother. 4. Pick up an electrical component, get the immediate chorus of, "It works great!" Buddy, there is 3 inches of mold and dust on this pong, don't act like you just unhooked it from the family TV because you saw me coming. Thanks for letting me vent. Anybody else like to add? -Joeybastard
  10. Thankfully I have both systems but I have to say I like the CV better. The original sticks are horrid but if you use the Super Action Sticks or the roller controller trakball, it's a joy to behold. I think the CV is better for a few reasons: 1. The add on expansions (Turbo, Roller, Super action sticks) 2. The 2nd tier arcade ports are fun games and really well done on CV. As well as good versions of main arcade games (DK, DKJR, Atarisoft's Defender, Centipede, etc) 3. Squish 'em Sam
  11. I don't put much stock in any of the rarity listings. We all know certain carts had very limited production which makes them rare and will cost you more. Comparing rarity according to number of times on Ebay has one major problem. If each time a winning bidder turned around and sold it the day after they recieved it, the cart could be sold 150+ times (that is assuming a magical fantasy of 2 day Ebay seller shipping) in a year. If this happened to Video Life would it be less rare? The only way to judge accurate rarity is by actual production numbers vs. carts sold. Anything else is just a guess. Sometimes a really good guess but a guess. The moral of the story is: Base your willingness to pay big bucks on how much you want it or can afford it. Digital Press is a great resource but their rarity listing shouldn't make you take out a 2nd mortgage, sell a kidney, hold people's kittens for ransom, etc.
  12. I'm no expert on this but this is what I remember. It started about 1983 and really hit in '84. The major cause was a glut in the market of crappy games. There were so many companies making games that price wars drove down profits which killed off some companies and made the surviving ones unable to put money into development. It didn't help that there were many different game playing machines (console + computer) which further watered down which formats the game companies could produce for. The best evidence is any comic book ad for a Parker Bros game at the time. They were trying to make their games (all licensed properties which drove up cost) for the 2600, 5200, CV, Intellivision, C64, Vic 20, Apple II, Ti99 and sometimes other platforms.
  13. Well I am glad to hear you got that 4 port working and thank you for the good feedback on trading. Let me say it was a pleasure to trade with you too. The 2 port you sent me works perfectly and I've been playing the hell out of it. In fact because of this new 5200 obsession, I'm working on a joystick modification for the 5200 sticks based on the spring system that PC analog sticks use. I will definetely let AA forum know if I get it to work right and it's practical. So far it works for a while and then I have springs popping out all over the place. It's actually pretty comical. -Joe Kollar AKA Joeybastard
  14. I thought of myself as a collector of video games even as a kid. In 1984 when I was 13, I was buying up used Atari and Coleco carts from a place called the Record Van in Merrick, NY. I had about 100 Atari carts and almost every CV title. Some pretty rare stuff I later found out! I also bought up joysticks, trakballs, etc. Unfortunately I sold it ALL when I was 14 to buy a guitar and a NES which had just started being test marketed on L.I. I've always had some collection of games, but my current insanity came from an insatiable desire to play HERO, Jumpman Jr, and Kaboom again with the proper controllers. That got me wanting all of the systems I dreamed on owning as a kid.
  15. Sounds like Aquaventure which I thought was a only a prototype. Check out the AtariAge listing at http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html...wareLabelID=855 -Joey Bastard
  16. Why do any of you care who makes the console? The fact is the controllers suck and the games suck. There's no reason to buy one. I think it's funny that this has turned into a PC vs. MAC thread. Here's the reality of modern computing: 1. No software will do everything the manufacturer says it will. 2. Both Mac and PC have their good and bad points. I use both in work as a graphic artist for a TV channel. I myself prefer PC and have had no major problems with MS products. Apple stuff has given me more problems and been more expensive but most of their stuff works pretty well too. 3. You should all stop whining and use the computer/OS that is most productive for you. Who care what somebody else uses? It doesn't effect you in any way. Thanks for letting me vent!
  17. I like pretty much ALL of my CV games. I play them with the Superaction sticks though. They are still my favorite controller of all time. I would say my all time faves are: Beamrider Squish 'EM Miner 2049 Frontline Jumpman Junior Zenji Montezuma Revenge Destructor Victory Slither with the roller controller kicks ass too!
  18. The Genesis does indeed kick butt although I do like my SNES better. All this talk of hooking /unhooking has me wondering though. I can't be the only one who has everything hooked up all of the time, can I? I have SMS,DC,Genny,SNES,NES,N64,CV,a radio shack pong, and of course the 2600,5200,7800 all set up. I tend to go thru fazes of playing one more then the others but I still like them all set up.
  19. I realize this is off topic, but is dumpster diving legal? I've been tempted a few times but I can't imagine having to call my wife to come bail me out for stealing from somebody's dumpster.
  20. Well somebody definetely beat them this time - the creditors. I should qualify my original post. Not all of the Wiz stores are closing. These good sales seem to be only in the ones that say Going Out of Business. Specifically the one I saw the sales in was in NYC on 31st and 6th. I know they are closing a lot of the other stores too so I assume the same type of sales. -Joey Bastard
  21. For everybody in the NY, NJ area, some of the Wiz stores are closing and have some pretty good sales. I picked up Virtua Fighter 3tb for DC for $9.99 and I saw X Box, PS2 and GC titles brand spankin' new for between $24.99 to $36.99. I've seen some of these newer titles for these systems at $59.99 so this is a pretty good deal for new stuff. They were even selling X,PS2,GC kiosks with the system in them although the guy I asked didn't know the price. Happy Hunting! -Joey Bastard
  22. I have to agree that the PS1 was an important system and had a few (very few) great games. The fact is that even a crappy game is at least mildly fun so that's what I consider the PS1 as a whole - mildly fun. I never liked the load times or the controllers so I never had one in its heyday. I think the system did so incredibly well because Sony was able to convince people it was better then it was (ala Sega with the Genesis). On the other hand it definetely paved the way for the DC, GC, etc, so cheers to the PS1.
  23. When I was a kid I sent in my $2 and the proofs of purchase and whatever else but I'm still waiting for my magazines. You still owe me Imagic!
  24. The king of all NES games was River City Ransom. I really like Super Dodge Ball and the RC Pro Am series.
