  1. When the console first came out I would rent one occasionally along with Tempest 2000.

Later I bought one when they were down to $35.  I think I paid $100 for the JagCD.  Then over 20 years bought more games.  I certainly wouldn't be starting out collecting it now!  I'm probably around 90% complete for every title, but that is not my goal either.  Unless I find a BattleSphere at a garage sale for $10.  :D

  2. Got mine yesterday - so a 3 day turnaround. Quality seems excellent, I definitely like the feel of them. It will probably be a few weeks before I actually try them with a game since everything with Atari ports is put away right now.

They also included a thank you card, which I thought was a very nice touch.

I just went to their website (www.techdungeon.xyz) and saw they were at VCF Midwest this past fall, so I'm sure I stopped by their booth at some point.

  3. Nowadays I don't play anything except if it's on my PCs with emulators.

But I have a house full of retro computers, systems, and games.

Now it's at the point that selling everything seems like it would become a nightmare, just due to logistics, not to mention the new IRS/Paypal rules.  I feel like I'm trapped to having a house full of stuff!

It kind of irks me, though. The Vectrex was dead for twelve years until John Dondzila released Vector Vaders in 1996, but has been one of the primo homebrew communities ever since. It's been alive and vibrant much longer than it was dead. The article misrepresents that reality.

Yeah, I remember in college (mid 90's) a friend picking up a Vectrex and one of the early multi-carts.  I'm guessing probably by Sean Kelly even back then.

Finished our leisurely late breakfast of french toast, bacon, biscuits, and fresh eggs. Just put on the yule log on TV. Now it's finally time to tuck into the presents!

Nice Packers stocking!  Go Pack!  Though they almost blew it yesterday to the worst team in the league.

Wow, I can't believe it has been nearly a year TWO YEARS (time gets lost when you get old..lol) since I had started this thread. I hope everyone who wanted one of these were able to get one. Availability has been quite good for the year but I have a feeling Dell is phasing out this monitor.

Well now you're tempting me to buy another, even though I probably won't need it! :D

Yeah, I know Crazy Taxi originated as an arcade coin-op - however, I never saw it in arcades and have only ever played it as a home game. So pulling off some of the advanced techniques for crazy dashes and crazy drifts definitely involves a learning curve with the arcade controls, using the gear shift and the pedals instead of just sweeping my thumb across controller buttons.

I had first played Crazy Taxi in the arcade, but it wasn't until I got a Dreamcast I learned of those tricks.  Then one day at a Dave and Buster's I found out they worked!

  8. I've bought a couple on GOG that I wanted.  But I still have the classic Humble Monthly subscription.  The increasing number of games I will never play is getting embarrassingly ridiculous.  At least digital hoarding is not nearly as bad as doing it in my house.

I got to meet him Sunday too!  I was at the 8 bit guy's table buying Attack of the Petscii robots making small talk with a guy standing there too and when I told him what I was there for he was like "did you know Ward Christiansen is here?"  On our way out I headed over there and was like a teen meeting his idol.

I felt bad interrupting him while he was working on a soldering project, but I was not to be denied!!!! :)

Great guy.  I hope I'm that sharp when I'm his age.... (Which would be a huge improvement since I'm not all that sharp now).  :)

I met him Friday night.  I was sitting at Ben Heck's table and he and his friend came buy to tell Ben about the soldering class they were doing at the show.  I saw his nametag which was just "Ward C", and he also had an "XMODEM" license plate badge.  I then recognized his voice from the BBS documentary.  "Wait, are you Ward Christiansen?"  "Yes."  "I have to shake your hand, thanks!"

Then I asked Ben if he knew who he was, and he didn't.  "Well, this man invented the BBS. And XMODEM."  "What???"   So then the conversation went that way.  It was very cool.
