Watched an episode of Knight Rider on one of the antenna channels today, they added 5000 megabits of data to KITT as an upgrade. A whopping 625MB! And Jason Bateman was a kid in it.
-
Yes, which explains why Devon needed that tractor-trailer rig, because they needed to hook KITT up to an IBM 3084 mainframe, which transferred the updates vis-a-vis a 9600 beee-brrrr-brrrrt .... beeeeeeee 8-N-1 modem, which also explains why that rig had a kick-ass sleeper-cab complete with a Betamax and a minibar, because a gargantuan 625MB update might take forrrr-evvvv-er.
Incidentally, that red WHIRRRL-a-whir thingy on top of the hood was actually a prototype de-multiplexing IR-port receiver which kind of sped things up.
I'm not making this up!

Woo, just saw I made 2000 posts. Let's party!
-edit, lets take the suggestion from @cvga but party like it's Back in '89!
-
Worst birthday ever. Was supposed to be Derby Day and a party at the bar with music from Steve Ewing (of The Urge).

Wow, I just 'liked' a 16 year old comment because I didn't notice it was a necro-bump. That's a new one!

XFL Teams announced. Go St. Louis BattleHawks!!!
-
I like Deadspin's take. "They look like teams in a direct-to-Netflix movie."

Years ago, at a Dave & Busters, my wife had spent all but 1000 of her tickets.
"Anything else?"
And then she said "I would like 100 rubber snakes."
They had to go back and get another box, and count them out. It was hilarious. -
You think Star Trek: The Motion Picture was bad in the theater? Try being 10 years old and being brought to Dune at 8PM.
-
The only I-shouldn't-be-watching-this-movie moment in my childhood was when my mom brought me to Batman in 1989 (PG13, I was 9). The violence was not much more than the DC comic books I was reading at the time, but seeing it on the screen was different. I vividly remember "the taste of cool violence" when the Joker was killing people for fun.
Dune is kind of scary even for some adults and I found it disturbing the times I watched it on the TV as a kid, so watching it at 10 years old on the big screen must have been a traumatic experience.
As a kid, I don't think my parents ever brought me to a movie that was too complex or without enough action. In retrospective, it would have been cool.

I've struggled for years to figure this out. Thank heavens for YouTube!

This guy apparently is familiar with what my job is like.

Alestorm concert is tonight! Woo!

@GoldLeader It was great! So glad we had a chance to see them live. Venue was small (1000 people max) so pretty much anywhere was up close! And boy was the beer flowing, I don't think my wife left the couch all day yesterday.
-
Alestorm is coming to my city, and I have tickets! Thanks to either @save2600 or @GoldLeader, don't remember which one of your posts/comments introduced me to them about 6 years ago.
-
And Elvenking is opening! I like them too! (YMMV) Looks like the closest they are coming to me would be Omaha, NE but that's an 8 hour drive if memory serves (We did do that once for a concert...)...These days, I'm making sure I have the energy to drive down to Denver Sunday to see my friends' bands play. And that's only 2 hours away

All these buffet incident mentions remind me of the old macaroni and beef email forward. (Language warning!)
-
Ah, yes. A classic. Reminds me of (also NSFW language) anal fissure Bob.

Anyone have experience with All-in-one liquid CPU coolers?
I'm looking at a new PC that has one, I'm concerned about reliability/longevity. Current PC is going on 6+ years, but needs to be replaced. I usually build my own, but would rather buy a whole system this time.

Car battery died - debated calling AAA, but since the car was a manual, I decided to try a clutch pop in reverse, and it worked! Made it to the shop to get a new battery. How many kids today could do that?

@GoldLeader Popping the clutch on a piano truck, a sharp movement for a flat battery.
-
I should note that yes, I usually have done battery changes myself. But this time both terminals were super full of corrosion crud, so I decided I'd rather have someone else deal with that. Also wasn't sure if it was just the battery or an additional problem with the alternator or something, thankfully it was not.

Dang. The birthday sidebar doesn't show anymore. Hint hint.
-
Fantastic. Someone else has my new X-Arcade Tankstick today. Delivery proof photo certainly isn't my house.
-
How weird - the TankStick showed up a few hours later, and then the delivery photo was updated correctly. Guess the UPS guy scanned the wrong box or something? Anyway, YAY. Now Saturday night plans are back to what they were supposed to be!
-
I'm a year late, but bought a Steam Deck since it was on sale. Seems neat so far - but it's friggen huge!

Is this the first necro-bump that actually has useful information?
-
Just had a Priority Mail package take a month to go from CA to MO. It sat at "moving through system" for 3 weeks. Tried to submit a lost mail form, and it wouldn't let me - "If there are no updates after 11/10, then you can." And this was last week. What the heck?

@ventrra That is exactly what mine looked like, except the date on Moving Through Network was 11/10. Then suddenly last Friday it changed and got updated.
-
Just shut down a Win 7 PC at home to move it to a different spot. Uptime 440 days. Who says it wasn't stable?

@GoldLeader I just open Task Manager, go to the Performance tab, select CPU and look at the Uptime. Obviously I never needed to reboot it, and it looks like the last power outage that drained the UPS was well over a year ago.
-
Major accomplishment(?) at MGC was I finally got all the 3DS Puzzle Swap pieces. That took 10 years. I may never try to StreetPass again.

Normally I wouldn't post work things, but a customer just asked if I could whitelist their IP of 192.168.1.1. FFS.

@Albert I may just have to reply that I did instead of trying to explain it!
