  1. Damn, nice score. Q-bert's Qubes alone is worth the price you paid.
  2. I prefer games with a medium amount of difficulty, although a good challenge doesn't hurt every once in a while. I don't like tedious though, and there's a fine line between that and challenging. Game I'm most proud of beating: Dragonstomper I'd love to be able to get to the kill screens on any of the classics, or even finish Galaga 88!
  3. The PC version from 1992 is near-perfect, and allows multiple control schemes, mouse, joystick, keyboard. If you can get it to work, this version is awesome. It's downloadable at the Underdogs: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=2011
  4. Order sent! I can't wait to give these a try (I know the ROMs are there, but I'm waiting to play them on a real Vectrex). Mark's site is great. I've ordered tons from him before.
  5. Ok, thanks for the help. I have a friend who can probably help me assemble this. Thanks again.
  6. Yea, it does have the separate sync. My board does not. Do you know where I could get one of those Lm 1881 chips? Thanks for the help.
  7. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to put an Atari ST SC1224 monitor in a cabinet. The vertical hold won't stay, and the game periodically starts to roll. I did a search on the newsgroups, but the links that they pointed to were long expired. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Yes, they are based off of the same movie, but the games play quite differently. They aren't just clones of the same game. Also, I forgot to add War Room (Colecovision).
  9. Atari 8-bit - Computer War Beach Head and Beach Head II (Atari 8-bit, C64) are very close. The first one pits the Allies against the fortress of Kunh-Lun, and the second is that Allies against the Dictator Stryker. Final Legacy (Atari 8-bit) is based in a setting with another cold war in the year 2051.
  10. What I don't understand about all of this is that Nintendo somehow thinks that I actually care about the character that I choose when playing DDR. I guess that there is no robot with the plug on his head, or the baby. I mean, who cares? I think that slapping Mario into every game they find is only going to hurt them in the end. Does Nintendo think that I want Mario as a playable character in EVERY game I buy? I guess so.
  11. Ya, I've bought some Intellivision, Vectrex as well as some Atari stuff off of him, and I've only had positive experiences! Thumbs up!
  12. Atari, Atari 8-bit, C64, Intellivision, Colecovision.. A group of me and my friends had all of these and it's hard to limit to just one. At the start of the decade, it was the consoles.. then the computers...then, finally NES.
  13. I'd be asking yourself what are you looking to get first. That will determine how much you should pay. Do you want a four-port or a two-port model? (depends on the number of joystick ports and players). The four-port model is my favorite, but you need to make sure that the auction includes the original RF switch like Famicoman already mentioned. Here is what we are talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=8159799722 Secondly, do you want to get a load of games with it, or do you plan on collecting them by themselves? You will pay more for a system with 8-10 games, and it will be a nice starter system for you. But, you have to find an auction (assuming you want to go Ebay) that has the games you want. It's up to you. AtariAge hosts the Atari 5200 FAQ. You might find some helpful info there, including its history, and a list of some of the better games. It might help you make your decision on what to look for. Also check out the hardware page of the 5200 here at Atariage. It has some pics of the different models: 5200 FAQ 5200 Hardware My last bit of advice is to try and find an auction that has some working joysticks (maybe even some third-party ones). The original 5200 ones aren't the greatest. Like that one auction you have a link to... it has four joysticks, 3 of which aren't functioning! Good luck!
  14. When I was a kid, there was a rumor that one of the dentists in town had a similar setup with a Colecovision. I'm not sure if it was just in the waiting room, or for when you were actually being worked on. I don't know if it was true or just an urban legend, but it sure made me want to go to that dentist.
  15. Here's a great pic from the Christmas of '81, I believe: I'm the one with the Kaboom!
  16. The DC really changed this for me. With the similarities between it and Sega's Naomi hardware, not only were we getting perfect translations, but most of the games were being released almost simultaneously in both markets (in Japan at least). It really changed things for me. The Saturn and its 4 Meg cart was also a big difference. Those Capcom fighters were so sweet! Having said all that, I've had friends who were counting frames of animation, and noticing the differences between the arcade and home versions. I'm not that much of a freak!
  17. I have a vague recollection of the 3DO version being quite sluggish compared to the PC one.
  18. There are a couple of variations of the ad: http://www.intellivisionlives.com/media/ne...news031031.html http://firteen.com/8bit/scans/Intellivisio...on_Plimpton.jpg I may also have a nicer scan at home on my computer, if you are interested.
  19. I didn't mean it in a negative way, I was just pointing out that even the homebrews seem to have the action space setting and shooting gameplay elements.
  20. It's a high quality product for sure. The game itself is fun, challenging and very well done. I'm still terrible at it (I was never very good at these gravity games). But, I must say that I like it alot. I haven't messed around with it enough to find the mini-game yet. I love the intro and the music and all... it reminds me of the old Atari ST intros. Every Vectrex owner should grab one of these (especially at this price!). It's yet another space shooter on the system with 80% space shooters, but you that's just the charm of the Vectrex library.
  21. Try playing Night Stalker with a controller in each hand... one for running and one for shooting. The same can be said for AD&D Cloudy Mountain. Therefore, you don't have to stop moving to fire shots. It's much more fun this way.
  22. I've got the cart in my hands, but I'll have to wait until after work tonight to try it out. It's a great deal for $11.50. The packaging is nice, and it's great to see the cooperation from everyone from Mark (making the carts), Manu (artwork), Ville (making the game), and even Alex (supplying the high score save code). Of course, Sean Kelly is to thank for the nice cart shells too. I love the feel of a nice, new Vectrex cart. The Vectrex community really is awesome, and they deserve credit for making some awesome affordable homebrew games for us. I can't say enough good things about them. Anyway, I will post my impressions about the game later tonight. I also got a 2-d Narrow Escape cart to try out also. I can't wait.
  23. I never messed around with it much, as I was way too lazy. But, now that you have the ECS, you should give World Series Baseball a try. It's really impressive what they did with the Intellivoice and everything. It also supports tape load/save features.
