  1. Of all the luck - how could I miss the best homebrew idea ever!
  2. Nice thread - I am also on BGG - I've been on the lookout for Fireball Island forever - all that's left of my little brother's copy is the one Red Player piece I managed to hold onto... Mostly, I'm waiting for the kids to get a bit older so we can play the likes of Hero Quest, Descent, Monsters Menace America, Fortress America, Betrayal at House on the Hill and Axis and Allies! http://www.boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/deaditeash Oh - did you all know that the geek has a Video Game Geek site now too!
  3. Not sure I follow you Trinity - unless you're just expressing your disbelief in such a good deal! Does anyone have suggestions on next steps with the 4 switch? I had thought of asking Best - I'd like to unload it in working condition...
  4. THIS +1!!!! * I'd do that deal anyday of the week and twice on the second Sunday of February. I'll post a pic later but on the 4 switch - not sure what next...not the connection, not the power supply, not the voltage regulator...
  5. No I haven't yet but I could at least take it up to Radio Shack I spose since I don't have a v meter. Well - problem solved in a way! I was driving home from the Shack after determining the power supply was getting 14 volts thinking great now what when a guy I had contacted on Craigs list called me and was just one exit ahead off the freeway. Stopped in and took a look at the boxed six switcher he had (the photo online was terrible) so he pulls it out and it had controllers, paddles, 5 games and manuals including system manual - but the system looked sort of weird to me - the outer edges were really thick and the power ssupply was gray and I noticed the rf cord exit from the back looked of higher quality than mine...anyways he said the only issue was that it only worked on an old tv in the garage and the picture was snowy - so I asked if he'd take $30 instead of the $35 I had offerred and he said sure...got it home and it works great - better than my 4 switch I think - than I wondered why it was so heavy so then I was like wait aminute - and flipped it over - sure enough the white label said Sunnyville, CA...

  7. You are probably right, but even though it may be getting power, it might not be enough. Swap out the 7805. It is a cheap fix and only takes a few minutes to do with a soldering iron. If the problem persists, next step would be to swap out the RIOT chip which is under the silver cover. Well - I swapped out the 7805 last night but it's a no go - no change - still get scrambled screens above. I did notice a small blue spark a few times when plugging the power adapter cord into the back of the board so it's getting some level of power. I did pull off the shield to inspect - I didn't notice and unseated chips - all seemed to have good solder connections...
  8. Bad power can cause all sorts of weird behavior. These two threads helped me fix my 2600 light sixer: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/166914-atari-2600-power-problem/page__p__2067442__fromsearch__1#entry2067442 http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/145631-help-me-fix-my-1st-2600/page__p__1771736__fromsearch__1#entry1771736 I may stop and pick-up a 7805 at the Shack on my way home and swap out the existing one just to see - I'm not positive on this but I could've sworn the power switch was in the "on" position when I went to play...
  9. Tough mechanics to tackle. Being a boardgame designer myself, I don't think a good boardgame that captures the thrill and atmosphere of the video game can be made out of Adventure. Key to the Kingdom, anyone? http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1933/key-to-the-kingdom However, you could make a nice little D&D adventure of it. Did you design that one? Ya gotta love the geek - great site! I bet many here don't know they just expanded and added a Video Game Geek side for maintaining your collections online... http://www.videogamegeek.com/ Here's mine: deaditeash and board games: deaditeash
  10. Well to be fair, the finds at any thrift are only as good as the items donated right..? I check 4 or 5 thrifts as often as I can for a number of things - video gaming, stereo equipment, computers, books, records, board games, legos (for the kids) - this is just another area where online marketplaces such as ebay have played a big but subtle role in the larger scheme of things - nameley awareness and accessibility. All of these types of things can still be had/found/discovered as that age old adage always applies - one persons junk is another's treasure. More and more people realize value of all manner of collectibles and places like ebay give them the means to profit rather easily...my father-in-law is 69 and is still prone to pulling out this pile of the most beaten up Hot Wheels cars you've ever seen and telling me, "You know how much these things are worth on ebay!" I'm sure many a member here has bought gaming items they didn't want/need for themselves to fund purchases - well you just made the pickings slimmer for the next person that actually did want/need what you bought at a lower price. What has really bothered me of late is that I keep seeing these 30ish guys systematically checking every book on the shelf with a mobile-web device fitted with a bar code scanner - they will have an entire cart full of books already too - this must be a rising trend since I was in another place that said "no bar code scanners"...I don't believe this only applies to books either - I see many individuals at the thrifts that just look like they are picking up inventory for ebay these days, frantically searching and throwing anything in their cart in a manner that looks all business... I still think the Thrifts have potential but that it's more a matter of how often you can get there to increase your chances on being there at the right time...
  11. OK - cleaned a handful of carts and the insert bay but although all were dirty this still did not fix the problem. I am mostly getting complete black screens but a light purple screen with outlaw and Berzerk at least is also giving a solid noise...anyways it's not a dirty system/cart issue...
  12. Weird - I had just seen a system and games on ShopGoodwill from MI last week and was thinking I needed to tell my brother to get off his posterior and check those thrifts out...shopgoodwill is ruining the whole concept of thrift stores I tell you!
  13. Ugghhh - I had scored this beautiful 4 switch woody in about 2008 at a local thrift in a banged up box with 5 games, controllers and paddles. I flipped it on the other night and was dismayed to discover it wouldn't work. It was working great a couple weeks ago. Of course, my three and eight year olds were the last to use it... This is what I'm getting with various carts on screen: That last is Centipede! This is my board and closeups: Any help would be greatly appreciated...I've been digging around on the site for a few days but haven't come across anything that seemed definite...ideally I would like to know if there's a part I can order and switch out... I've ruled out the TV connection/switch box as it was working fine for the past few years up to a few weeks ago and I haven't messed with the hookup - also I toggle my Colecovision with the same connection and it is working great (well since I installed a new rocker power switch!). deaditeash
  14. Well, as an adult gamer who grew up in the 70's/80's, I can't be more pleased with the compilations for Playstation 1/2! Considering the wife wouldn't even consider letting me start buying arcade cabinets the couch and a slew of arcade games on one disc is the next best thing... I have the following: Capcom Classics V1 (PS2) Capcom Classics V2 (PS2) Centipede (PS1) Fatal Fury Battle Archives V1 (PS2) Gradius III/IV (PS2) Pong (PS1) Metal Slug X (PS1) Metal Slug 4/5 (PS2) Metal Slug Anthology (PS2) Midway Arcade V1 (PS2) Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (PS2) Raiden III (PS2) Ray Storm (PS1) R Types (PS1) Samurai Showdown Anthology (PS2) Taito Legends 1 (PS2) Taito Legends 2 (PS2) World Heroes Anthology (PS2) I am planning on getting: Sega Genesis (PS2) (the newer collection) Namco Collection (which is better the first one or the 50th?) Guilty Gear (the new one or the last one XX or XX Plus I think)
