  1. Hello, I just purchased a greeseweasle to archive protected ST disks. It was cheap and several posts suggest that this is a good solution. I want to archive to preserve these titles, but also for emulation use, and to be able to write back to a real disk if wanted. I think a disk will have to be saves in three formats. BUT.... I can not find a simple step by step tutorial about how to hook it up properly, and then what software to use with the right settings for ST's There is a lot for Amiga, a little for PC's, but nothing I can find for ST disks. I have watched several videos about these, and have some idea how it works. but there are major gaps for ST uses. I also have many original disk game/app disks that now have corrupted data, and I want to write back already archives programs. (just my wired thing..) I have a PIII/Win98se machine to use with USB and 1.44 or 720kb drives, and my main win10 PC. Oh and a Falcon and several other ST's Thoughts, links, ideas, suggestions, etc. Any help would be appreciated !!
  2. Really, No one has a comment on this? Sorry for my bad spelling in the title.
  3. Hi, I was looking at my 1983 Atari catalog with the 1400's in it. I then started looking at similar pictures online. Then I notices something. Some 1400XL have the L1, L2 LED's, and some do not. The same for 1450XLD's. I attached a couple examples of each below. Anyone else noticed this in the past? What would the 'correct' configuration for each system? I know these are prototypes and they have a tenancy to be different from unit to unit. But if these were put on the market back then what would they have for the LED layout? Just wondering out loud.
  4. Thanks flashjazzcat. That is an idea I might try. Possibly as a temporary badge. Everyone: There has to someone out there that knows about making these types of badges. A member of our club has a 1400XL without a badge, and another has several 1200XL missing their badges as well. It would be nice to find a way to get these professionally made. Perhaps someone in the automotive industry? What might be useful search terms for google to find the right kind of business that may do work like this?
  5. Understood. An idea would be to have a friendly person sympathetic to our little cause here, that lives near no, speak with no in person, face to face and see if things for just the site could be worked out. But finding such a person ...... ? ? ? If I were near by, I would be more than happy to have a friendly, and cordial conversation, but sadly I'm not.
  6. Anyone have an idea how to replace the 1200XL badge. I mean new aluminum and printing. Or at least a metalized sticker that would be close?
  7. Well, the wayback machine is better then nothing. At least there is most of it there. Perhaps Retro Rogue could just that, appeal to the family directly for just this little piece? It is possible that enough time has moved along that less emotion and more thought of positive legacy might prevail with the family?
  8. So again just wondering, why cant Retro Rogue just put he site back up? It sounds like in the post on page 2 he seems to have access to things like this. Hosting is cheap these days. A simple gofundme posted here would easily generate enough funds to pay for hosting, I would think. I'm sure Curt would have local backup somewhere. Or might there be legal thing getting access to his person PC's? The website was not a revenue generating, was it? But the Wayback Machine is a good idea. I did not think of that. It will at least have some stuff there.
  9. I have been wondering why just the web site can't just be hosted somewhere. It has/had already been up and running for many years. So the hard work has already been done. It has always been a very helpful resource for the Atari community. The web site should not have much to do with Curt's actual physical 'museum' so I do not see any reason why it can't be put up again. This is in no means a rant, nag, or anything like that. Just a concerned Atari enthusiast. Any thoughts on this?
  10. Thanks everyone. After I clean up the system I will give this a try. I read the threads about this. I was wondering what the latest disk version was that would have the most 'library files' in it to be able to 'backup' the 'latest' software.
  11. FULS Thanks, It does look like "The Impossible" I downloaded the software I found in here. After I clean up the system, I'll test the program and see what happens. Stay tuned.....
  12. The switch has 3 positions. The ROM is soldered to the PCB. I have almost everything from AtariMax to FujiNet Oh, I forgot There are stickers with poke's on them, and other things on the case A very large one says 32767 (isn't this total fre(0) ram with basic installed?) Then smaller stickers Poke 16,64: BRK Poke 53774,112 Random = Peek(53770)
  13. WOW, That is a good upgrade, and unexpected. Thanks for the exceptional fast reply! Anyone else have thoughts on the small pcb?
  14. I found an 800 with an OS upgrade that has no identifying labels. I was hoping one of you out there in the Atari community might have an idea. It appears to very very well made. But hand soldered. It is on a OS/B board. The only text on the small card is copyright 1984 Computer Software Services, Circuit side, Comp Side, NW A All the chips are lacquer painted over. Any thoughts? Thanks PS Oh, The whole computer smells musty, old like, like in a basement that no one goes into. I'm going to tear it completely apart, and wash the plastics. but how to get the smell off the PCB's and keyboard. The keycaps have those hard to find graphics stickers on the faces, so I can't wash it. Again thanks
  15. My sincere condolences!!! Please watch this Great vid first !!! Please keep us updated on these upgrades and advance firsts. They look great!! If you have not watched this video first, please do so. The best upgrades seems to be upgraded every year. This is a Great thing happening !! But what about the guy that upgraded 3 years ago? It would even more great (bad grammar) If there was a hardware unit that can do everything on the hardware side that is possible, were made, with as little needed internal and external modifications (for each platform 400, 800,1200XL, etc) so we have a Standard.(A8 dose not have one, think about that) Then it is just a mater of software upgrades. We are getting close to this with U1Mb and Side3, side of things (pun intended). Then there is the video output problem. Many options, no standard. We should make one as the standard. Hopefully can make a Standard for each platform. Yes it is a hobby, that we all have fun with. But I think we are starting to fork like android did at their mid-start. Just saying......
  16. No sadly I did not. I had to put this project a side. Those chips are not top expensive so you might buy a few and see if they work. But my link above is for probably China sourced chips. Sometimes they are fakes or lesser parts with new labels. When I buy from China I expect about 20% fake or dead parts as of the deal. That is just something to be aware of. Please let us all know if you do get your boards to work. Have fun !
  17. Just ran across this on evilbay https://www.ebay.com/itm/204061908752?hash=item2f83099f10:g:mVAAAOSwsMti7RCv There might be other sources for purchase. (I'm not associated with this) Looks interesting. I like to support efforts like this. Thought I should pass it long to others here.
  18. Many thanks for the detailed replay. Very much appreciated. It looks like I bit off a little more than I can chew on this. From what I can understand is that you agree that this current transformer is not up to spec. Do people sell 3 wire wall warts? If so, what would be the best search terms too find a proper replacement? Again thanks
  19. HI, I have a Video Music with its original Atari 3-wire power supply that appears to only output 5v and 10V. The label shows 16.6 vac. When I test with a multimeter, I assume that the middle wire is ground, I measure the other two wires and get 5vac and 10vac. This is a 3 wire very tiny power brick. Obviously I need a replacement. I am still not too good with power supplies, and this 3 wire psu has me stumped. First where can I find a 16.6 psu, then one with 3 wires? Oh, and only 100mA. Or can I make one a 3 wire psu from a 2 wire unit? if so, how? Thanks
  20. This is perfect. I get this and try it out!! Many thanks!
  21. Thanks, I already saw this, and it is not close to what is shown in the video posted above. Other thoughts? Ideas?
  22. Hello, I seem to have stumbled upon a good way to make imitation silver colored case badges. This would be for items that we can't find new, old, or reproductions of. See this video at the 12:00 minute mark, and watch for about 30 seconds, and you will see what I mean. Seems like a good idea. I could do this But.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW7EszNFmPA So EXACTLY how did he do that? The P-Touch looks like a P-Touch Cube. ok those are pretty easy to find. But the software? I have looked all over the P-Touch/Brother site and there is NO software for Win/Mac for the Cube. Only IOS/Android (a non-starter for me). He is obviously using a computer to make his custom label. Looks like the file extension is .lbx, and the program looks like 'express' something SO, what combination of driver and software will work on a win10 machine with a P-Touch Cube or some other systems to easily make custom labels in windows like he does? Thanks for some input.
  23. Vintage Computer Festival 2022 West has been Announced. I would be really cool if the Atari Community could do a 'Take Over' of this show. Similar to the Apple 1 exhibit of 20+ systems the VCF were able to to a couple years ago. It would be really cool if the Atari Community could surreptitiously take over this show with a huge number of unique Atari exhibits! Anything from Pong to Jaguar. Pick your machine or timeline, all great! The West coast, Bay Area, is where it all stated. So this show is the best place to show off what our systems can really do. I'd Like to invite any Amiga exhibits also, as they are a close relative to the Atari 8-bit line! Sign up for your table(s) below. The more the better!! https://vcfed.org/wp/events/vintage-computer-festival-west/vcf-west-exhibits/
  24. It did sell. Only after being listed a few days for the $10K ! Yes a re-image of the 815 would be Great !! With the ease of 3D printing, and same for getting PCB's cheap. it could be done with out too much trouble. I often see new Apple ii+, Atari, C64/Amiga newly designed cases offered up for sale. Finding 360K Tandon drives is not that hard. I have 7 or 8 around here somewhere. But the 815 is HUGE. It literally is 2 810's high, and a lot heavier as the PSU is inside the case. Or make " Condescend" 815 with 2 1/2 height drives in a 810 case. A new face plate would have to be designed, and printed. And new interface/power PCB made. I have often thought, and occasionally post in here that a 'generic 1450XLD' case could be designed. It would able to hold any XL/XE motherboard from 600-1450 tang, and 65/800/130/XEGS. There would screw in standoffs for them all (so you can switch boards on occasion). and slide in back and side panels for I/O. Possibly room inside for modern PUS that would be able to power the MB and 2 drives. I have seen and used a 1450 and the case is also HUGE. it has lots of room inside. Without the drives it probably can hold a 48K 800 too. But I do not have nearly the skills to even start such a project. But I would like to be involved with it. Maybe a kick-starter?
  25. Thanks, forward previous email to this email. fingers double X'd ........
