  1. I'm still very surprised to see CV core support on the Sg. Sure the technical specs are similar, but as the FPGA can pretty much be anything 8-bit - 16-bit, I just didn't expect it. Not that I'm complaining. The CV is one of my favorite systems and the system I really started appreciating video taking with. Maybe we'll get the Atari 2600 core too since the Coleco Expansion Module #1 can play Atari VCS carts. Then maybe we'll get the Atari 7800 since that is backwards compatible with the 2600. OK, maybe that's a stretch. On a related note.. Anyone want to buy a new Telegames Dina system? I'd still like to have the option to use original CV controllers. One of my favorite games, Mouse Trap, kind of needs the numerical buttons, and the overlay comes in handy as well. I just see it as part of the experience. I think you needed to have grown up playing it that way as a kid to have any desire to want to play it that way now though. It would also open the possibly to use other CV accessories such as the Expansion Module #2 (steering wheel), Roller Controller, Super Action Controllers (needed for Rocky, Front Line, SA Baseball, Football, etc.) I'd also love a way to use original CV carts on the Sg so I can play my original carts on it, but I don't think that'll happen.
  2. They'd have to send the entire top of the unit if you want it to look the way it should. The color of the text is different between the JPN (red), and EUR (white). Though, that might have been cheaper than them paying shipping both ways, and repackaging/refurbishing if the customer's Sg has been opened.
  3. Yeah that's the one. I only watched it the one time before the edit. I also never owned a 6 button Gen controller back in the 90's. I rarely bought new Genesis or Mega Drive games after 1992. I put more money into new NeoGeo and SNES carts after that. So none of my games needed one.
  4. Update on wrong model received (EUR instead of JPN). On Thursday I inquired about the possibility of having them mail out a replacement JPN shell top instead of having me return it, and not be able to play it for 2-3 weeks, but that idea was shot down right away. I was told "Those are the 2 options we provide at this time" 1. A $25 refund and get to keep the rarer EUR system which was mis-shipped, or 2. Exchange it and wait for them to gt back in stock and ship it out. So I replied back yesterday that I am choosing to exchange it. That was at 4:30PM EST yesterday (Friday, March 29th), and as of Saturday 4:44AM EST, I'm still waiting for a reply with instructions on how to return it, and with any luck, a prepaid shipping label. I hope to get a reply soon. *****Update Saturday 3/30 5:18AM EST***** I just received a reply a few minutes after making this post. It contains a link to a prepaid return UPS label. They also said "Since you are located in the USA, it will not take 2 weeks." So that's good news. It also sounds like they are going to cross post an send the replacement system out on Monday. So that's cool. Questions for those with the system and a mega Everdrive flashcart... 1. Is there a way to reset the Mega Everdrive x3 back to the game selection menu from the Mega Sg? With the Super NT the only way I known how to reset flashcarts is to start one of the built-in games, quit, then RUN CARTRIDGE. Seems kind of convoluted. A hard reset button combo would be ideal. 2. Has anyone tried the Game Gear games which were converted to Sega Master System roms from a Mega Everdrive? I have about 75 GG games converted to SMS that I'd like to play on it. 3. I saw a video on YouTube where Ms Pac-Man doesn't work correctly on the Sg. He wasn't able to move up or down while Ms Pac-Man was in motion. He also tried several different controllers. Then he played the same cart and controller on a Model 2 and it worked fine. Also, any guesses on when we'll see the Sg jailbreak? My guess is Easter (April 21st).
  5. I take it you got what you paid for. The the type of customer that pays $200+ to get slightly sharper pixels from a system playing 30 year old cartridges might juat care about receiving the correct color scheme. If you send me the WRONG ITEM I will certainly let you know. I feel badly for anyone who just sits back and accepts it.
  6. I definitely don't want a 10% refund. I want what exactly what I paid for. And no way should anyone be responsible for paying return shipping when it's their mistake. It also shouldn't matter if you've opened it either. I nearly opened mine without looking for the region color printed on it. I only knew to look because I saw a few others on here with screwed up orders. Do you have a link to where Analogue said they started swapping the EUR model because they didn't have enough of the JPN model? I pre-ordered right when they went up for pre-order back on October 16th. So there should have been plenty when my order went through. Also selling a particular item and them purposely sending something else instead is illegal. I.E. "Bait & Switch" ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bait-and-switch#Legality ), AKA fraud. If they actually admitted this it could be very bad for them.
  7. It looks like they screwed up on my Mega Sg as well. I ordered a JPN and also got a plain looking EURO. I haven't opened my box yet. Is there still a chance it might be mislabeled? If I open it will they take it back? And what is the wait time to get the correct system (JPN)? They really should allow you to keep it and just send the 2 tiny buttons of the correct color. It would save them a ton in shipping costs (both ways), and allow the customer to actually play the system they paid for.
  8. So do games run on the Power Base Converter, but not on Analogue's SMS to Sg adapter?
  9. I got mine yesterday, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. So is there a list of original SMS carts that don't work? I have about 100 SMS games that I will try out. Has anyone tried the official Sega Power Base Converter to play the SMS carts instead of the Analogue SMS converter? That would be amazing if it were possible. I love playing the SegaScope 3D games in stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS via the Classics Collection. I have my Super NT connected to my PlayStation 3D Display and I plan on using my Sg on it as well, so that option would be incredible.
  10. Just wondering if there will be a way to have the Mega Sq load an official SMS bios file when playing SMS carts. Also wondering if that would allow you to play the snail maze game by pressing up+1+2 at the Sega logo.
  11. I just got a notice that mine has shipped. It appears that it will show up on Wednesday. Which is good since I'm going to be busy on Monday and Tuesday.
  12. So have they said when the review embargo lifts for the Mega Sg. It would be fun to see a review of it before receiving it. I wonder if Mike Matei will screw this one up too.
  13. Sure thing! So, were you experiencing the same issues as I was (as seen in the vid)? If so I am pretty sure this will totally fix the issues. I've been using mine after the 2.0 FW update now and they have been perfect. I really like these controllers now. Also, just make sure you are using the correct BIN file for the correct thing "V2.00_RR(190312).dat" for the Retro Receiver and "V2.00_GamePad(190312).dat" for the controller. It's pretty straight forward, but I almost mixed them up at first while hurrying through.
  14. Link is in the description. I am hosting it myself because 8BitDo has not made it public. **Please use at your own risk. It worked perfectly for me on my 3 controllers, but I can't say how it might work for others**. I'm sure it will be fine, but just a quick disclaimer to CMA.
  15. I'd love to see a solution for the Sega CD where you could connect a generic off the shelf USB CD/DVDROM drive to the Mega Sg and have it handle the extra Motorola 68K, etc., in core. Those drives are dirt cheap ($15-$20) and tiny. They would fit nicely next to, or under the Sg. They often come in black or white, so they could also match your Sg. Let's face it. Sega CD units will break down long before Genesis/MD systems will. I know my model 1 probably won't last much longer. Prices on both the model 1 and model 2 CD united have also gone up considerably. Unless you want to buy an "untested" one from eBay, which is basically just another way if saying it's broken, in most cases anyway. Something like that would be incredible IMO.

  17. Interesting. That sounds an awful lot like the GDAPT shader. Which, is actually something I inquired about back in January. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242970-fpga-based-videogame-system/?p=4196523 It seems to have pretty good results depending on the game. I'm definitely interested to see some examples of it on the Mega Sg.
  18. Where was a photo of the Mega Sg connected to a Sega CD unit posted? "Blending", as in the ability to smooth the dithering, which was was used through RF/composite to fake transparencies and shadows? I hope so because unlike the SNES, the Gen/MD uses this effect quite often. It would definitely be a welcome optional setting. Was there any word on when the Mega Sg cartridge adapters would be made available for pre-order or for sale? I'd like to get one of each. Is there any chance that we will get optional CPU overclocking for games? I've seen it effective in games like Sonic 2 where getting hit and losing your rings keeps the game from slowing way down. Or when playing Super Hang-On to increase the frame rate.
  19. **UPDATE** I have some good news here for those of us who bought the defective 8BitDo M30 2.4g controllers. (I personally bought 3 of them. 2 black, 1 white). 8BitDo got in contact with me and sent me a beta 2.0 FW which completely fixes the connection problems. I've been testing them out since last night and haven't noticed a single disconnect or latency issue. I'm very happy with them now. Since I know others are having this specific problem, and since 8BitDo has not yet made this FW available on their website (as of today anyway), I'm hosting the file on my website. **Though for legal reasons, use at your own risk** I've updated 3 controllers and 3 receivers and they are all working great. Just make sure you are copying the correct .DAT file to the correct controller or receiver. They are labeled as such. **You will need a micro screwdriver to take the receiver shell apart. I used a philips head micro screwdriver from a glasses repair kit** Easy to follow instructions are included in the zip file. Probably to ensure better compatibility when connected to other systems such as the Switch. It would be nice if there is a way for the Mega Sg to access them for UI stuff though.
  20. It's possible, but probably doubtful. Not everyone has the same amount of wireless interference though. I live in a pretty populated area of the city with a ton of wireless routers that I can see at any one time. Many of which are also 2.4Ghz, BUT that being said I often use 4 2.4Ghz Nintendo Wavebirds without so much as a hiccup. They are flawless. The receivers for the M30 are much smaller so it could also be that they don't insulate against other wireless signals very well. Oh, I only ever plugged in one at a time. That lag video I shot was only with one in it. In fact I haven't even tried it with both plugged it. It might even be worse with both. The Joyzz from Krikzz would cost $144. Where as both of the 8bitdo M30's cost me about 1/3rd at $50 total. It's the same 2.4GHz technology, so if it's an interference issue I would likely have the same issues with those. I have bought many of 8Bitdo's past products and have really liked them quite a bit. The SNES30's, the NES30's, the Retro Receivers for both. All excellent quality so I was expecting more of that. Maybe this is something they can address and fix with a FW update. Who knows. If not I'll just have to send them back to Amazon and possibly buy the Bluetooth version. Speaking of the Analogue Sg & M30, I found it strange that the boxes of the 8Bitdo say nothing about them being compatible with the Sg. It says "Compatible with the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive". I suppose it's assumed, but I figured Analogue would have liked their name on the box.
  21. I bought 2 of the 2.4GHz 8Bitdo M30 controllers and I'm having major issues with both. They take a while to connect and then after connecting they will stop responding, then move to about 3 seconds on their own in whichever direction was last pressed. See video >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTQRVUlqERs I have 2.4GHz WiFi, and cordless phones, but I also use my Nintendo WaveBird often, sometimes all 4 of them at once without so much as a hiccup. I believe those use the same 2.4GHz tech. Also, to rule out the possible interference I tried unplugging our WiFi router, and cordless phones, and it was just as bad if not worse than the video above. I suppose it's possible that I've received 2 defective M30's, but probably highly unlikely. It's unfortunate because I do like the way they feel. I'm also a fan of the very first Genesis controller as well. I guess my only other option will be the Bluetooth version, but that's going to cost much more. I paid $25 each for 2 M30 2.4GHz, which included the receivers ($50 total). I'll have to pay $30 each for the BT versions ($60) + $20 each for 2 Genesis receivers ($40). Thus doubling the price to $100. I also really preferred the smaller form factor of the M30 2.4GHz receiver over that of the Bluetooth one, which is about twice as long. I wish the Mega Sg could have an internal BT radio so there would be no need to buy and connect external receivers.
  22. So.. When in April do you think we will see reviews of the Mega Sg? With a scheduled release date of APRIL 2019, and with it being just a few days 'til February, it's coming upon us very quickly! The Analogue Super NT was released in February 2018, and we were treated the the excellent MLiG Super NT review on February 7th, 2018. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_OW_t9RXEM I kind of wish we could get a few more tidbits of info on it while we wait, but I understand that Kevin and Analogue are probably in "crunch time" ATM, with the focus on getting it out on schedule. I haven't been this excited for a new console since the Super NT.
  23. I didn't say I wouldn't play it. I'll likely buy it during a flash sale.I just mostly collect original licensed games (domestic and import) is all. I occasionally play homebrew games on flashcart). It's not as noticeable over CRT as it is on a modern HD display. And it looks awesome with the shader. A huge improvement in fact. I mostly play games on my Sony Wega over component, and don't have a problem with some dithering over CRT, but I've realized that dither patterns are going to be much more obvious on a razor sharp HD display. Some are OK, but others, such as the ones I posted above are very distracting. So some type of blending option would be ideal. Also, vertical dither patterns, when not properly blended, can also look similar to common graphical glitching. Like this...
  24. With some games, I think I would prefer an all over blurred screen with smoothed out dithering, especially with the vertical style dithering, rather than razor sharp edges. They just don't look right. I didn't notice it as much with my HD Retrovision YPbPr component cables because I was either playing the games on my CRT, or @ 240p on an LCD where it was a very soft picture. Anyway, an option for improvement would be great. Another game where the difference is huge, and as seen in the link above, is Virtua Racing. There is a ton of dither in the 16-bit port. With all of the advancements in RetroArch, it's really going to give hardware emulation a run for it's money. Yeah, Tower Toppler is another example of heavy vertical dithering. I switch to composite when playing that. I have the Longhorn Engineer Svideo/composite mod. The new 2019 Rikki & Vikki Atari 7800 game uses it pretty extensively as well. I was considering buying it, but after seeing it running in Svideo, I passed.
  25. Hey Kevtris, I was just curious if there will be any filter options on the Mega Sg which could possibly fake a composite connection. I have to admit, I mostly despise anything less than Svideo since first experiencing (Y/C) Svideo firsthand with a JVC SVHS deck, CD-i, and the SNES back in 1991. It's pretty well known that many developers took advantage of the RF/Composite blur to fake transparencies and color gradients with graphical dithering. I.E I wouldn't use this with every game, but it would be great to have as an option. The Genesis uses the dithering quite liberally compared to the SNES since that could handle transparencies and a higher on-screen color palette. There is more info on the Anti-Dithering shader (GDAPT) here: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?32262-Experimenting-with-Anti-Dithering-shader-(GDAPT) I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more info on the Mega Sg soon.
