I may be the only one with the opposite experience. My games generally look better on the 7800, especially 2600 homebrews. I always assumed that it was due to better shielding on the 7800.

If you live in eastern Tennessee or north Georgia or even northern Alabama, heads up. At the Northgate Mall, on hwy 153 in Hixson, TN there is a new game shop. It's huge and has systems from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. They have a healthy collection of 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision, Odyssey 2. And they have an actual 70s style arcade, with about 35 arcade machines set up and ready to play. I was blown away and left smiling. I have to go back this week to pick up some 2600 and 5200 titles, as well as to play Donkey Kong on an actual arcade machine for the first time since the 1980s.
I don't recall the name of the shop, but it's all the way down on one end of the mall, next to another retro shop (a record store).

If you can YouTube "Super Mario 2600" there are a bunch.
Screenshots are in this thread: http://atariage.com/...1-playable-demo
The latest playable demo version (worlds 1-1 - 1-4) is here: http://atariage.com/...re-world-1-demo
Thanks guys for the info. I was able to see the videos and the screenshots. Looks great!

Are there screenshots of this on the site? I tried the search, but found none. Eager to see it.

PS-He's a great seller of other video game stuff as well, an all around collector. I'm still playing Sega Genesis stuff he sold me last summer, in mint condition.
-
I bought an Atarivox from him, as well as an adapter and speakers. Everything arrived quickly and extremely well packed. He's excellent all around. Thanks Ax.

Ixion

I love that game, Ixion. I'd be in for one if that came to pass. The 8-bit version is really an excellent game as well.

Thanks for the replies! I'll try to find a joystick before I order the games. Sounds like that's the way to go.

There once was a shop in Hollywood, Florida that only sold Atari 8-bits and Commodire 8-bits. It was at the now closed Fashion Center Mall. That was a great place. They'd let you play almost any game, including a few that used a modem. It was like War Games, only I didn't really understand what was going on because I was too young. But I do remember being floored by Shamus on the 800.
Anyway, I don't know what the name of this store was, and doubt it was what you're looking for. But it was a great, short lived shop in South Florida in the late 1970s and early 1980s. There might be photos floating around on the web.

Does anyone here have experience playing any of the Atarisoft titles on an Apple II?
My question is this--Can you play the games using the keyboard, or do you need to have a joystick?
The games most likely are Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Jungle Hunt, and Moon Patrol.
Also, can you play Choplifter (not Atarisoft) with the keyboard? I remember playing that one at camp on an Apple II with a Kraft analog joystick, but never tried it with the keyboard.
Thanks for any replies!

My Video Arcade II has a big cartridge slot. It fits all my games, and is definitely bigger than the 7800s (apparently there were several slightly different 7800 runs made). The 7800s wouldn't fit red label or Imagic games, but my Video Arcade II fits them all. The only issue I've had is that it won't play RealSports Volleyball. The screen rolls like on a PAL game, continuously. It also appears to be better shielded than my 4 switcher, which makes the picture quality better, but not better than a 6 switcher. And amazingly, it's made in the USA (perhaps Sears required that at that time?).

The Jr came out under Atari Inc
Oops. Sorry for the incorrect info. I didn't realize it was no longer Jack's company at that point.
-
I'd keep the Sears and sell the Jr. (or somehow keep both so one can be a backup like accousticguitar suggested).
-
As for the larger games slot are you saying some games won't work on 2600 or sears and only jr.
Some late red label games and some Imagic games are a bit wider. I've never heard they might not fit an early 2600. I have noticed they don't fit in a 7800. But maybe he's saying they won't fit the 6 switch systems like your Sears.
-
The Sears unit is probably way more sturdy and better shielded. The jr.s came out near the end of the 2600s run, when Jack T. was making them most cheaply. However, some people love the small size of the jr. and the wedge design.Which one do you like better?

Two more: Qb is a port of an Atari computer game, but very addictive and fun. And This Planet Sucks is similar to some other games of the old days, but unlike most other 2600 games.
Sorry for the three posts in a row. The first has the originals to meet your criteria.
The second and third posts aresimply full of really fun ports or variants that are homebrews.
-
Space Treat Deluxe is also excellent. It's similar to some other games, but I don't know if there is another one just like it. And Climber 5 is a port of an Atari computer game, but also quite fun and unlike any other 2600 game.
And my favorite homebrew of all is Seawolf, but it is a port of an arcade game, so it doesn't quite meet your criteria.
-
Oystron and Seaweed Assault are hard to beat originals.

Ask Nukey Shay. He's looked at the code for the VCS Pac-Man closer than anyone. Check out his Pac-Man 8k hack. It's awesome.

It appeared to work. Adventure II may soon be on the way. Thanks!
The name on the card was Gift Card Recipient. Solid English name.

Thanks Al,
I'll try it later today and see what happens. If it doesn't work, then I'll wait a week or two and use pay pal. I'm looking forward to some new 5200 and possibly 2600 games.

power suppy question
in Atari 5200
Posted
I've never noticed this until this evening. My power supply got scorching hot. Is this normal? It was plugged in for about six hours and on for about two of them. I usually leave the plug in the wall, but tonight I put it all away and noticed that the power supply was extremely hot.
