  1. Please add me to the list too. This game looks awesome, and it's exciting that the 7800 library is getting a much-needed boost.
  2. I know I just noticed it this week too. I was so psyched when I saw the 2600, and then I tuned out once they got to the point of the commercial.
  3. I was watching Heroes and fast forwarding the commercials when I noticed an Atari 2600 game. I checked it out and it's a commercial for the Lexus IS 250 which starts off with a kid getting an Atari 2600 for Christmas. Enjoy! Lexus IS 250 Video Game Commercial
  4. For games that only require 1-button I would also add Sega Genesis gamepads to the list. I find them more comfortable and responsive than the 7800 joypads. I use the 7800 pads for games that require 2-buttons, although I find the D-pad to be a bit more stiff and not as accurate as the Genesis D-pad.
  5. Yep, you guessed it, I'm looking for games that I can play with my girlfriend. She asked what Atari games I wanted for Christmas. Glad to see that there are many 2-player games on the 2600. Bee Ball did come to mind, also because of the cute factor.
  6. I wanted to know what are some fun 2-player games (either simultaneous or alternating) on the 2600. I'd like to play some games with my partner. I have some like Space Invaders and Frogs N' Flies, but since I usually play 2600 by myself I'm not aware of which games offer 2-player action.
  7. While Pac-Man Arcade looks closer to the arcade version, I'm most impressed with Pac-Man 8K, which takes the original 2600 Pac-Man, and shows what it could have been. It feels like Pac-Man, yet it still keeps a distinct "this is a 2600 game" feel. I think if those changes had been made there wouldn't have been all of the complaints levied against it. Hack 'em is a hack of the Ebivision homebrew Pesco (which used to be the Ebivision homebrew Pac-Man) that turns it back into Pac-Man. It looks a lot like the arcade game, but I think the flicker (which is slower) looks worse than the other versions, and the speed is all wrong (Pac-Man moves lightning-fast). Not sure what to call a hack based on a homebrew that was originally the homebrew the hack turned was turned back into. I've actually played Pac-Man 8K, since I discovered it in the Hacks section last week and was really impressed! I liked that it kept the look, feel, and sounds of 2600 Pac-Man yet improved on it to look more like the arcade game. I was really surprised with the intermissions, I had no idea the 2600 could handle them. It would be great if it was released on cart. I'll have to check out Hack'em when I get home, since I can't install an emulator on my work comp.
  8. I'm curious, since I'm not one of the fans of 2600 Pac-Man, which is a shame since Pac-Man is one of my favorite games, but which of the hacks and homebrew versions of Pac-Man for the 2600 is people's favorite? How does the one sold in the Atari Age store - Pac-Man Arcade - hold up? Thanks!
  9. Wow! I'm a late-comer to this thread, but this version of Pac-Man is amazing! Can't wait until it's released.
  10. Got a nice Wico Command Control instead and I must say I like it much better than the Wico Competition Pro. It's a bit smaller, making it easier to hold, and I like the click the joystick makes when you move it. It provides some nice precision control. I wonder if it's because I'm left handed but I still haven't found a way to hold it properly, seems to start bothering my hands during extended sessions. Still it's nice to be able to use a digital joystick on the 5200. It's quite the adventure to find alternatives to the stock controllers.
  11. Agreed, and I like having them on cart form - the original format - so I can play on the original hardware. It's a nice fusion of past and present...new games on old technology.
  12. The Wico has been re-listed on eBay. I know some people were interested since it's a fixer upper, so if anyone wants the auction link please send me a PM.
  13. Was it available in Canada when the segment was produced? At first I wondered the same thing about the Channel F; that would be my guess as well that it wasn't available in Canada at the time. Would've been interesting to have seen a review of it, if it was. Maybe there are some elsewhere on the site and I just need to look around.
  14. I like the title screen for Kangaroo. I think the way the g wraps around the c to make the copyright logo is cool. Not to mention the baby kangaroo that you need to rescue.
  15. Ok lets get a little real here. I never "looked" for Atari games back then because it was dead and gone, there was no interest in it like there is now. Naturally I was more interested in the NES and the C64 so yes I cant say that I "looked" for Atar games. I didnt get interested in old systems till the mid 90's and the internet anyway. When the Genesis and SNES came out I almost trashed all my old 80's systems. I'm glad I didnt. But from what I remember I saw nothing in the south side of chicago. No jr. no nothing. The only thing I saw were bins upon bins of discount 2600 games in the mid 80's. That part is true though, I can't say from personal experience that Atari stuff was in stores since I wasn't looking for it in the late 80s when I first started gaming. All I knew was the NES and that's all that I was interested in; it was all the rage. But I did have one friend who had a 7800 with some 2600 games at the time so they were there but I definitely don't think they were in most people's consciousness, certainly not mine. I don't even remember Atari commercials or ads. I was exposed to the 2600 because we had my sister's VCS in a closet in my house. The NES was my gateway and so that's where my interest in the 2600 grew but it wasn't due to any active presence of the 2600. In fact I had a hard time finding accessories for it (ended up going to Radio Shack to get a universal adaptor) and went to the discount bin at Toys R' Us to dig up whatever one or two 2600 games were left. I didn't really expand my collection till the mid-90s when Radio Shack decided to liquidate their stock (and I discovered the 7800 as well). But I guess these systems were alive in the late 80s in terms of the fact that Atari was still producing games for them and they were being sold in stores, they just weren't front and center in the public consciousness.
  16. WOW! This looks AWESOME! I had been following this thread with great interest, and was drooling at the screenshots, but seeing the vid has left me speechless. Wow the graphics and sound are awesome!
  17. That has struck me, particularly with the 2600. Those early systems really refused to die. I find it interesting with the 2600 that although it was released in '77, it was one of the few systems that really survived the crash and came back, even out-living its intended successor (the 5200). Obviously it wasn't as big a hit in the late 80s as it was in the early, but the 2600 got some great tiles during this time and was pushed with what seemed to be a decent ad campaign (The fun is back!). As was noted, games continued to be released for the 2600 during the crash. One of the many reasons why the 2600 is my favorite system. That said it does appear to me that the Vectrex was totally killed by the crash. It had the misfortune of being released late in '82 and then went down right with the crash. Also, it never bounced back like the 2600 or Intellivision. Yet judging from the level of homebrew interest now, who knows it could've continued longer had it not been for the crash.
  18. I'm not a huge fan of the wico stick either, its ergonomics are like a brick imo. Sounds like you need to get your hands on a masterplay or a clone to fully appreciate the system. It will give you the 'precision' control you looking for. I suggested the Redmption/Masterplay to him too. I like them all. The Wico is best used if you wrap your thumb around the middle of the stick where it is most bulbous in my opinion. I think the Wicos work great that way. If youre trying to stick your thumb on top of the very tip-top of the stick, then I think you will feel like it is awkward. Just my opinion but I love my Wicos. Yea didn't feel too ergonomic to me, but that is what I'm looking for the Masterplay Interface or the Redemption adaptor sadly both are rare and expensive, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. It would be great to play 5200 games with my Genny pad like I do for the 2600 and 7800.
  19. If you payed via paypal and the auction stated that the stick was in good working condition, you should be able to file a complaint and get at least a partial refund. Actually, the seller proved to be very nice and she's agreed to take it back for a refund. So I'm mailing it back today. Crisis averted, and I like my stock sticks so much more after this experience. I didn't really have a problem with them it's just I feel sometimes in a heated game of Pac-Man I miss a turn because of them, so I wanted to see what an alternative controller would do. Perhaps, you can talk to the seller that you will ship to another person who wants it so you save on shipping and make a better solution. Pac-man was the one of the reasons I had about 100 of my own joystick adapters made for the Atari 5200. The auction ended on one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=320308589020. If you want to give it a shot, let me know. Pac-man gives you more control using the arrow keys on the PC (in my opinion). I've already shipped it to the seller, but I do plan on talking to her, when she receives it, about re-listing it, and I'll explain that there are collectors out there who can repair it. If/when she does re-list, I plan on posting on here so anyone interested can have a chance. I know I didn't really get a chance to game with the Wico but I wasn't too impressed with the joystick itself, even when locked, it felt loose and mushy; more so than my stock 5200 stick. Also, I found the Wico difficult to use if you're left handed and need to press the fire buttons. I don't know why, but I just really enjoy the 5200 version of Pac-Man, although I have a more arcade-perfect version for another system, I like the unique look and feel of the 5200 Pac-Man. But I do feel I'm missing precision control...
  20. This would be awesome, since I've also noticed that all the 5200 controllers are huge. The system is already huge, no need for the controllers to be.

I wouldn't want it to go to waste either since I would imagine they're becoming rarer these days. I might just stick with the stock joysticks after all since I'm left handed and realized it would be hard for me to use the Wico.
  22. Just played this last night, I've never played this Pac-Man game before so I'll have to get used to it, but the graphics, sound all are amazing. This is truly a top notch product like your Pac-Man Collection.
