  1. Hi everyone, I'll admit, I enjoyed this game and appreciated the details and many animation frames of the sprites as I don't recall too many games that featured so many moves with the characters especially on an Atari 8 bit computer. Plus I loved wrestling games and with only Mat Mania Challenge (7800), Title Match Pro Wrestling (2600 and 7800), Pro Wrestling (NES), and Wrestlemania (NES) available to play at the time, I couldn't get enough of wrestling games so this game got played a lot along with the others mentioned. The game was best enjoyed on the 130XE because of the extra memory. It was almost impossible to play on an Atari 800XL. I was wondering would the extra memory chips like Rambo XL be supported on the 800XL for this game? Atari never released a sanctioned memory expansion for the 800XL and I'm curious if memory expansion like Rambo XL would work with the program? I prefer having my 800XL available over the 130XE so wondering if finally getting expanded memory like Rambo XL or ICD's 1 meg expansion would be worth it. However, if expanded memory is only worthwhile for programming, I guess that's a good reason why I never bought one. One of the letdowns of expanding an Atari 800 to 64K was that it didn't guarantee that the games at the 64K for the XL & XE level would work on it. I remember friends complaining about that way back when. Anyone ever try this on an Atari 800XL with expanded memory?
  2. My hard drive is a Supra for my STe. I'm not sure I have enough hard drive space to get more than one game installed at a time! LOL Probably need to upgrade the hard drive to install all 4.
  3. Anyone know of a video on YouTube that shows off what the talking sounds like with the music on the ST music chip? The only videos I found only plays the music. You would never know that the talkie works too.
  4. Awesome video! Thank you for posting it! LucasArts along with Sierra Online defined the 16/32 bit gaming era. It's really a shame the Atari ST version hasn't been recovered but being playable now definitely makes up for it.
  5. Thank you for sharing! What's the difference between Scumm and Scrumm Lite?
  6. Thank you for sharing! This is the first time I heard of ScummVM being released to the public! What happened? I thought this was an Atari Brotherhood! Really exciting to hear that it's finally available for all. I wonder if they will release the Scumm for Apple II as I'd love to see a port to the Atari XL finally as well. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Graphics Adventure was cancelled for the Commodore 64 (the Action game got released) and I'd love to see the 8-bit versions make it too.
  7. Any Italian speakers on here? Even though I grew up in an Italian neighborhood unfortunately it doesn't mean I'm able to understand everything in this Youtube video. Somehow he's playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on a 520ST? I remember reading this game was cancelled and only the Action Game was released. However watching this video, that horrible music it plays sure sounds like Atari ST music chip. He even selects it at the 6:50 mark of the video (wish he would've chosen the Roland MT32 instead). https://youtu.be/in9IoSmmmF8 Did he somehow pull off his own Indiana Jones style recovery of a lost prototype or is he just messing around with some video edit software?
  8. Just looked at the PSVR and did you mean the port that goes to the PS4? I assumed you meant there was like an auxiliary port but I guess not. Kind of weird that Sony would allow another console to be using their VR headset and not have some type of block to stop it from happening. I'm not going to test it either in case it messes up the VR LOL. No reason to tell the Sony troubleshooter that it stopped working right because I tried the Wii U with it.
  9. We spent the weekend playing Assassin's Creed 3 that I never got around to testing out the collection. Pretty great game. Hopefully we'll be able to check out the rest of the Wii U library in depth. I tried checking the PS4 game boxes to see which games are playable on a 3D TV looking for clues for the Wii U version but they're not marked either so when time permits during this health crisis at the moment I'm going to go through that collection as well. If I had to guess Assassin's Creed Black Flag has to be 3D on the PS4 as well just by default of Assassin's Creed 3. Before discovering 3D the other feature I'm digging on the Wii U is the second player on the tablet. The Lego Games and COD games are fun to play for the first time in multiplayer mode because sharing the TV is no longer necessary. I hate that split screen stuff. Especially the Lego games because there's so much you can explore on your own. For me 2 players games are only fun for fighting games like Street Fighter because you share the board and can't get too far away and there's never any split screen LOL. They don't really advertise this on the box either for 2nd player tablet play.
  10. Thanks for the heads up on the PSVR. I didn't even know it had an HDMI input. I play a couple of games on it but truth is, I don't look at the new systems as closely like I use to. Back in the day, I noticed the SIO port on the side of my Atari 7800 or difficulty switches in the back of the Atari 2600 even before it was turned on for the first time. These days I let the kids set it up and just wait for my turn to play and pass it on to whoever is next LOL. I sure missed the old days when I noticed every little thing about my consoles. Long live Atari!
  11. Hi everyone, First I hope all the fellow Atari lovers out there and your families are all doing alright despite the health scare across our country and the world right now. I finally got some time to spend some in depth time checking out the Wii U collection with the family and noticed that Assassin's Creed 3 was playable in true 3D. Wow! It's a lot of fun when it's playable on your 3D TV! I usually play the 3DS games in 3D only so getting to play 3D on a console is even better. I'm assuming Assassin's Creed Black Flag is playable in 3D and my kids told me Pikmin 3 is as well. Is there a list somewhere of games playable in 3D for the Wii U? I'm not going to load up every game just to check the settings and I wish they put it on the packaging somewhere like playable on your 3D TV. Anyway thought I'd asked here since the fellow Atari lovers are my usual go to crowd.
  12. I have to agree completely. The Atari ST version of Ultima VI was a total disappointment. They weren't even trying. Even though the 16-bits were showing their limitations by then, companies like Sierra Online and Lucasfilms were able to get more out of the Atari ST at the time. I didn't find it very playable from what I remembered. My friends gave up on it pretty quickly One of my friends (a huge Ultima fan) literally bought a PC the next day after playing the Atari ST version of Ultima VI. He was willing to live with the Atari ST a little longer when he found out Ultima VI was being released but once he played it, he was ready to move on. He got the PC for Christmas that year after the summer he bought Ultima VI for the Atari. Surprisingly I found the Atari ST version of Ultima 2 to be great (not a popular opinion shared by Atari ST owners i know) specifically because it took advantage of GEM and rarely any large publisher like Sierra Online or Lucasfilm did anything like that with their Atari ST games. Maybe the Ultima 2 Atari ST programmer should've done the rest of the Ultima conversions! Just kidding! I just think any other effort could've been better than Ultima VI on the Atari ST LOL.
  13. Rob, Thank you for trying to pick up the pieces of Ultima V decades ago and sharing your work on here recently. Really impressive how you were porting a Commodore 64 game to your Atari 130XE. When porting titles to an Atari, most cases involve porting from an Apple version or creating an Atari version from scratch. I don't hear of too many games where people essentially take the graphics from the C64 version to convert over (I remember Shanghai from Activision was a Commodore 64 hack/port as well). Really impressive. I appreciate you describing the entire process of how you were able to pull it off as well. It was a great read and to learn from. Sadly the original promised Atari version was probably cancelled due to the programmer who did the previous versions moving on from Origin at the time. I think the last ports he did was the Atari 800 and Commodore 64 versions of Ultima IV. They probably just couldn't find a programming house or person to do the Atari port in time for the release as they were becoming less and less due to the Atari 8-bit market shrinking even though some great titles were still being released. Atari 8-bits were quickly becoming the 6th platform (behind PC, Apple II, Commodore 64, Atari ST, and Mac) in term of priorities for ports back then. Once the original programmer left Origin, it probably spelled the end of all Atari 8-bit conversions. 1 salaried guy doing all the other 8-bit ports at the time other than Apple II, how can you beat that? All the Atari versions of Ultima were direct ports of the Apple II version so your hack/port of a C64 version would be impressive to see if it ever gets finished. At least graphically the Commodore version of Ultima V was better than the Apple version. Thank you again for sharing Rob! Maybe someday we can see a complete working version. I do have one question. In your post you mentioned that you were hoping your hack would be seen by Origin as an Atari port done at a bargain price. Can I ask if you and Robert ever got to even talking about compensation? I'd be curious if they offered anything. Great story! Long live Atari!
  14. Yes there was a 5200 conversion for the Atari 8-bit and I'm pretty sure it was by "The 5200 Man." How do I remember besides having the intermission? It had the "#" and "*" as part of the selection on the main screen but the players would use the "Select" and "Option" buttons instead. Having heavily played the 5200 version, you knew in an instant it was a conversion. Qix was another 5200 conversion that was commonly distributed back then. It's way better than the cartridge version by a mile because of the intermissions. It's more ironic when they re-released Pac-Man for the XE Game System, it was the same old 400/800 version (box and all) with a sticker stating compatibility with the XE Game System. Couldn't they spare the extra RAM to get the intermissions in at least and a new box like they did with Eastern Front 1941? I remember all those 800 owners being stunned that their more expensive 800 computer's version of Pac-Man was inferior to the 5200. Disbelief especially because Atari computers commercials for the 800 use to heavily promote Pac-Man at the time. It's important to note that I don't remember 400 owners being disappointed though but that was probably because the street price of a 400 was around $199 while the 5200 street price was about $249 at the time. Plus many 400 owners got Pac-Man free with specials, promotions, etc. Of course the number of 400 owners I knew growing up was much more than 800 due to the lower street price. By the time the 5200 hit $199 street price, the 400 was around $179. When the 5200 hit $159, the 400 was $129 and so on and so forth.
  15. Yes, the Atari Transputer was something I've been interested for a very long time. I was told the Atari Transputer wasn't as powerful as initially thought at the time of conception which was why Atari pulled the plug on it but I definitely hope to see one in action someday and get to experience the only Atari computer I never got a chance to use. Your system looks to be in amazing shape as well right down to the trademark Atari ST detachable keyboard and mouse! I'd love to see what 2 of these computers networked together could've possibly produced. Thank you for sharing! I hope you'll have the time to get some YouTube videos up someday.
