Atari awarded a $500 million contract to IBM to assemble, test, package and distribute the Jaguar.
"awarded"? Always thought it was because IBM happened to be the lowest bidder. Just business as usual, but worked out further since they could say "made in America" for a while
and the console design and games.
For a second, I thought this was "news." I guess it was, a long time ago. And yeah, giving a contract to someone, even the lowest bidder, is an "award," just like when you "win" an auction by bidding the highest amount.
