  1. Hey CJ, yeah I got one of those adapters too and yes it works great. Quote: "The only draw back is I have to unplug my cable to plug in the VCS and then vice versa when I want to watch cable." No Problema, you can fix that in a jiffy, go back to RadioShark and buy a TV A/B switchbox with coaxial inputs, those usually sell for like $3, have fun
  2. Hey Wimp: Download MESS 37b and put files like this: mess/bios/a7800.zip mess/software/galaga.a78 BTW MESS emulator is very good, just look at ballblazer running now, near perfect. I hope this info helps you.
  3. My two cents: 1) Atari 2600.-The King. Almost 25 years later still running showing us how gameplay should be done in videogames plus a ton of games available for it. 2) PlayStationOne.-A miriad of games available for it, 32bit eyecandy, CD tech at a low price, decent gameplay in some games, try GT2, Driver2, Tony Hawk Skating, Cool Boarders, Tomb Raider, Paparapa the Rapper, Spyro2, Toy Story 2, Alone in the Dark or Spider Man to see why this thing made Sony proud. 3) SuperNES.-Great Gameplay, 16 bit 2d graphics, most of the games are sequels to old NES games but to name a few good games: Street Fighter II turbo,Mortal Kombat3, Yoshi's Island, Mario All Stars, Earthworm Jim, MegaManX, Castlevania, BattleToads, DK Country. 4) Sega Genesis.-Excellent gameplay, too bad there's a limited library of games, still this thing put an end to the NES empire, some of the must-see games are: Sylvester&Tweety, Earthworm Jim, Formula One, Toy Story, Sonic 3. 5) NES.-Find a top loader famicom or a multigame cart with like 64 or 128 games built in and you're in 8 bit heaven. Nowadays this thing is dirtcheap plus you can find some good Arcade ports like Joust, Ms Pacman, Xevious, Arkanoid, and some of the games have great graphics for such modest hardware: Mario 3, Battle Toads, NARC(weird but unique), Hogan's Alley, Castlevania, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden, Bomberman, F1 Race, 1943, Tetris, Excitebike, 3D Worldrunner. I'm done rambling
  4. I just downloaded SCSIcide by Joe Grand and I have to say it's a great game that rivals Kaboom and Avalanche, the version I tried uses paddle controllers. At first feels kinda slow but as you manage to pass to the next levels then everything gets crazy and the speeds increases to maniac levels making it a fast paced action game. Great game, a must see. SCSIcide delivers.
  5. There's also a PocketPC/PDA emulator for the Atari 2600 called PocketVCS by Stuart Russell, so far he seems to managed to make it work with the HP Jornada, Compaq iPaq and Cassiopeia MIPS cpu. Looks like portable emulation it's alive and kicking.
  6. One can only dream but... If they re-released the VCS, I see it could have a good chance of success in two formats: a) Something similar to a TVboy handheld with 64 or 128 games built in for like $30. b) Or something similar to a VCSp with a LCD screen for like $50-60 with 64 or 128 built in games. I think the VCS stands tall against Gameboys, Famiclones and other handheld units, with current technology they could make the VCS-in-a-chip for dirt cheap prices. I've seen some handheld Famiclones sell for $30 new, so that means that a handheld VCS can be done at that low price. But then again one can only dream...
  7. Atari VCS vs. the Rest (here we go again...) Look, um, I don't think you should compare the VCS to Coleco, it's unfair for the good ol'VCS to compare late 70s technology to early 80s, as someone pointed out before there's like a 5 year period between both systems. As far as I'm concerned, Atari released the 5200 to compete with Coleco, so it would be more reasonable to do a comparison between the 5200 vs. CV BTW In my opinion if I could only have one system I would choose the VCS hands down, because there's a miriad of games for the 2600, CV's library is limited to a few good games, so I guess it's a question of Quality vs Quantity but that's another story
  8. Cool stuff u got there, it was hilarious to see Pancakeboy and Snaperoo's labels (LOL LOL Super LOL LMAO, what a weird guy who tried to pull a scam on Alex into thinking that he actually had a 'Pancakeboy' cart LOL I always laugh while listening to it), Spice Invaders shows a strong attitude. BTW when u click on Sunshine Lady & Jar Jars thumbnails it shows SWEpisode1Watto, maybe u oughta check those thumbnails again. Keep it going, hey how about making a label for Doom2600 or even Quake2600?
  9. Hey Ken: It would be interesting to see some screenshots of that Kaboom! proto for the SNES, I'm curious to know if it was an enhanced version or just a port of the classic game, another question is that what kind of control were you guys at Activision thinking to use for it, any aditional info that you could learn by all means let us know first.
  10. Wut keeps me goin'? oh well let's see: 1-God 2-Atari and videogames in general. 3-SEX 4-Tacos, burritos, gorditas, KFC. 5-Internet (I'm a net bum LOL) 6-Sat dish & Cable TV 7-Music Cheers.
  11. Matrix: Welcome to the coolest hobbie in the world: Atari collecting. I agree with you: Is all about Gameplay, Eyecandy is just frosting in the cake. I see that you already have some great games like MsPacman, Asteroids and Tennis. Some of the 'must-have' games in every decent 2600 collection that I think you might want to look for are: * Defender * Pitfall 1 & 2 * Missile Command * Centipede * Pole Position * Battlezone * Joust * Galaxian * Space Invaders * Dig Dug * Super Breakout (paddles) * Kaboom (paddles) * Warlords (paddles) * Cosmic Ark * Berzerk * Turmoil Most of those games are common and easy to find at a very low price and they have great Gameplay. The VCS will give you endless hours of fun without paying top buck for it, if you want to get Rare carts, well that's another story, but most of those carts I mentioned before are very common these days and you can get them at dirt cheap prices if you spend a few hours looking in the right places like thrifts, flea markets, internet trading etc.
  12. Hey Dan: Great work! You saved me a ton of work trying to figure it out. Last year I found a trashed Trackball for the 5200 but I didn't pick it up because I couldn't figure it out what was wrong with it. I think that this info will be helpful. You make it look so easy. Congrats.
  13. Great! Very Interesting, this is eyecandy. Thanx Curt.
  14. Nooooo God why?!!!!!! Yeah why don't you just keep it without further updates, you could use one of those free hosts like Angelfire or Geocities, is best to see a page full of crappy advertising than nothing.
  15. Well, sounds like a good price but I bet that unit don't have a cart slot to plug in gamecarts and it probably won't broadcast wireless RF signal, that's why it's so cheap.
  16. Hi Chad: The unit you mentioned before it's a NES/famicom clone with 76 built in games from the Power Player series. Where I live you can find Power Player consoles for like $80 but they come with 120 built in games or so. It's only an 8 bit nintendo.
  17. Back in the good ol'days my most wanted game was Chopper Command by Activision, next to Star Voyager by Imagic.
  18. Hey Hero, u can swap the potentiometers inside your paddle controllers, u won't be able to play in 2 players mode, but if you swap the pots at least u will still be able to keep playing until you find new ones.
  19. My Favorite 2600 models: 1-6 switch Sears/Telegames 2-Darth Vader 4 switch Atari 3-Atari 2800 (Sears 2) Awesome design, killer looks, perfect size.
  21. Hi TR: "just be sure the mA rating is correct (500mA). Higher is bad news," Wadaumean? a 1,000ma (1 Amp) Power supply works fine on any VCS I've tried before. As far as I'm concerned, the "load" is set by the VCS not by the Power supply, the Power Supply just have to be able to keep up with what the VCS demands from it. I've never experienced any kind of problem using a 1Amp Power Supply. Have you?
  22. Hahaha! Da da dada dum! Oh no it's contagious!!! It's hilarious, the fight between those poor devils with no taste whatsoever it's funny tho.
  23. No, Ecuador uses NTSC too. Check the World TV Standards page "ah". Read again.
  24. "It's a constant source of frustration to me that the video-game industry is dominated by Japan," he says. "It started here; the U.S. should dominate. ... Nintendo and Sony can be dethroned, and they should be."-Nolan. Amen.
