  1. I still think "Super Nintendo" is one of the dumbest names for a console. In Japan the NES was called the "Famicom". So, when the "Super Famicom" came out it made sense in my mind. Nintendo Super Famicom sounds pretty good. But here in the US. the prior console was the Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES). So we got the Super NES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)...or what is known as the "Super Nintendo"...but it just sounds dumber than Super Famicom to me...dunno why.

I read that, at one point, following the success of Ms. Pac-Man, Midway was considering a sequel to Gorf called Ms. Gorf. Imagine if, instead of "Super," the prefix "Ms." had become the go-to naming convention for sequels and such? We could be discussing the Ms. NES.

It was Famicom and Super Famicom in Japan which is a shortened form of "Family Computer". Nintendo were wary of using a name like that in the US post video game crash - so used entertainment system instead. So in the West it was the NES and Super NES.

I actually think it's the last time Nintendo had a really good name for a console...Ultra,  Dolphin,...I mean,  who knows what good name they threw out this time when they decided to "Switch" it up!
