  1. Thanks for the translation, currently time is a real issue for me and I was writing this already in sleep mode. Good news for US/Canada members: Magazin #144 shipped in a big box via express delivery today, should arrive soon in the US and then will be distributed from inside the US.
  2. For me it´s not about lag. I´m just not good with using the keyboard for controls. Never was. With the new Classic Controller that comes with the Atari VCS800 I can play Albert in the Emulator (Atari800MacX, controller connected via bluetooth) as well as on the real machine. But I totally prefer the look of my CRT.
  3. Ataris don´t die. Sometime they just fall asleep, but can be awakened.
  4. You might want to check @JAC!s programming tipps: http://www.wudsn.com/index.php/productions-atari800/tutorials/tips If you scroll down a bit, you find a the topic "The program should switch off BASIC automatically, if it requires BASIC to be disabled".
  5. I think, it was the same impulse that triggered me, wasn´t it? German customs very subtle checked the box: 😂 But the content survived and is working, only needs a little cleaning. The communication with the seller in Egypt was very nice, and he mentioned that he might probably have more Atari stuff. But he is not an Atari person himself. I think I´ll ask for what else he has to offer, maybe there are some items, that were specifically for that market. But now I need to turn some of my arabic friends here in Germany into Atari users.
  6. No, I didn´t die there. If it is the exact same position, chances are, that it is fixable. Yes, having the level numbers would be nice. And some kind of scoring or time limit, to be able to play this in a competition against others.
  7. I´m afraid, I´m an a**hole: When we play games in the ABBUC-Bundesliga (every last Wednesday a month) I´m always starting like "What a trashy game", "Unplayable" etc. But then I get the hang of it and often reach very good scores. With games, that I played a lot in the 80s and 90s (sounds like an advert for a radio station) it´s that memory comes back quickly and then it´s just routine. But a game must attract me. I´ll never score much in Blue Max for example, which I never liked and was played in HSC short time ago. Actually I just wanted to test the new controls in Albert, but somehow it ended up like this... Before that, I struggled a lot with the precise jumps and especially the ladders, which I always missed. But somehow this works well now for me. As they didn´t mention a change with the way how Albert grabs the ladders, I think, I just got the feeling for it. Ladders now aren´t a problem for me anymore.
  8. Oh yes, now I do. Everybody has his favourite stick. I love the Competiton 5000 and since they´re here, the ArcadeR. I didn´t like the CX40, but since I´ve modded it with microswitches (there was a board from a Commodore-modder) I like it too, when it comes to precision. But for Albert I use my ArcadeR: I think, there is a glitch in Level 24. They counted as collected and I could finish the level, but it confused me a bit: AlbertError.mp4 Oh, and I think I shouldn´t have put my money on @Yellow_Man: 😇
  9. Generally, never talk to others about your plans. Just make it happen, and then present it. There always will be people trying to take influence and get you off your track, so that you never reach your goal. This is great! Ok, will check that, sounds like it could help me with my limited control skills. Damn it. 🤣 I put my money on @Yellow_Man, even Albert is not a shooter.
  10. I´m using an EasyAcc 15000mAh which also powers four GoPros at once. The cable I use was once built by @tf_hh, so I don´t actually know anything about thickness of wires. A8USB.mp4
  11. All that I want is not important. What it is important is, that rensoup just can finish the game the way HE wants it to. Everything else can come afterwards. About the beeps: No magic at all. I can turn off and on the beeps with a poke and just think, rensoup turned them off. That´s all. But again: This is totally not important. It doesn´t affect the gaming experience at all. The point for chosing xbios in first place is long missed. Now you should just carry on finishing the game. When finished, I´m quite sure, @xxl will give you any needed support to turn it into a CAR.
  12. I don´t have the Original Cart, but using the ROM from AtariMania (http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-rescue-on-fractalus_4352.html) I can´t see any difference to the disk version.
  13. Just the beeps, that enough for the simple minded me.
  14. 1. I tried all of them but end up using the default one as it works best for me. 2. Like @MrFish said: I play on the real hardware (always some machines set up here). Emulator is just for quick testing or when travelling. Keyboard controls are a no go for me on the Emulator, just can´t handle them. At least it plays fine when I connect the Atari VCS Stick via bluetooth. It turns out to have like no latency, but it is a bit too "slubberish" for Albert.
  15. Whoa, on an Emulator with keyboard such games are totally unplayable for me. The only thing that works good for me is using the wireless (bluetooth) Classic Controller from the Atari VCS 800 with Atari800MacX. Works great with TimePilot, but I can´t master Albert with it. I forgot to mention that: I lose many lifes at the ladders. Sometimes, Albert just doesn´t get grip of them. Or he totally ignores them, falling into a waterfall.
  16. Albert is a great game. When I complain about the controls, I pointed out, that it is ME, who is not able to master it, what gives me a frustrating experience. But I actually couldn´t say, how it should be changed to make it easier for me. That´s challenging, but doable. I actually think, that I have trouble with the timing of the fire button. It feels like Albert doesn´t act as fast as I press the button. Will keep trying with other sticks. That´s for sure. I would be interested in which controllers you use. Maybe I have to get rid of some old behaviours and try other controllers, which I normally avoid to use (I have a huge number of different controllers).
  17. I also like to have that moment of surprise, when everything is released at once without people knowing what they can expect. Releasing a WIP image is ok, but it´s a two sided coin. For some people seeing such a game as "Patrol" might be demotivating and keep them away from participating, thinking, they would not meet the standards (there aren´t many, actually). On the other hand it might motivate some people to make something even cooler. Having nothing released beforehand might also give the "smaller" entries more fame, as they might be overseen when title after title gets released over some weeks. When I get a compilation with completely unknown stuff, I feel like exploring single title. Having seen the "highlights" already, I might skip some entries.
  18. Ahh, finally back on topic. Actually, PoP is not a game for a quick play. That said, I would even accept loading it from tape in 40 minutes. For me personally it loads and I can play it. I think, optimizing the loading speed is not essential for the gameplay, so it should be done, when the game itself is done. On my Atari 800XL (PAL) with U1MB I load the latest version from an SDrive2. It takes 35 seconds to get to the menu, and then 40 seconds until I can start playing. Totally ok for me, because once loaded, it will be played for much longer than most other games. The only thing that I would ask for is to NOT disable the loading sound. Maybe it´s kind of romantic, but I like to have that kind of feedback, that something still is going on.

  20. I have an Atari XMM801 which works fine and ribbons are available still (but you have to cut off some small noses). With a printer adapter (e.g. "MicroPrint") you can connect a wide variety of dot matrix printers. Should be easy to find in the Internet. I have two or three Star LC-10 printers AND adaptors here and could sell you one for a fair price, but depending on where you live might get crazy expensive...
  21. I´ll probably never see that. Level 08 is the end for me. I´m just not able to control Albert as I want to. All three control options are suffering fine control for me. Tried different sticks, but it keeps being a game of luck, and that gets boring quickly.
  22. I´m used to have a Speedy 1050 since it´s available. No modification made on the Atari side it formats and writes a ED disk in 25 seconds. Copying about 600 disks all three months I should seriously check how I can speed up the process even more. But as for simply using software, it´s totally fine to me to have standard speeds, that´s part of the fun.
  23. Oh, I think, I did not express my motivation correctly. It´s not, that I want to make the best of its kind. My motivation is to make something useful instead of something redundant. So, when there already is an Atari-menu at the point where I start coding, why create another one? I prefer to try something else then, which does not already exist. My menu for the C64 (the first program I wrote on the C64 ever) was far from being good or fast, but there was no menu for the 10liners before on that machine, which gets many entries every year, too. Another guy picked my code up and made it much faster. I totally like that. Creating something new which others improve is fun to me and I feel honored, if someone takes what I did and makes it better. Also, I always try to do something, which I never did before. Not to make a unique thing, just to learn new tricks and skills. Of course I do not seriously compare myself with other programmers, who I know are much more experienced and always faster and better. When I finish a program and learned something during that I didn´t know before, I´m happy. So: Keep on coding!
  24. @tf_hh mentioned to me, that changing from uppercase to lowercase (REM -> Rem) could be a measure of saving memory. As inverse characters have higher numbers, it could be, that removing the inversion might save a bit somewhere? As REM lines are not containing executable code, it might makes sense to me, to save some memory here. But actually I don´t know anything about memory usage of BASIC lines. Assuming that memory is an issue, it also makes sense to me, that REMs with quotes are not changed, as BASIC could think there is a string. Maybe, people who know about how BASIC handles code internally can tell more about this.
