  1. At Retromags, we are only able to release issues that members scan and release themselves. We have no control over what is released or when. It would be great to be able to offer cash incentives for certain issues to be scanned and released-we have access to the full run of EGM from 1989 to 1999 something like 4 times over but no one member has all of the issues and progress is slow in getting it coordinated. We have recently been able to make headway with major donations from varous members and even other sites in the regard of older computer magazines (I have approximately 40 issues of the UK Atari User and I posted a list of Electronic Games issues a couple of members are focusing on now). We are fortunate to have a large memberbase but it seems that the members with older computer magazines are far outnumbered by members with newer console magazines. We would love to have you come over and join up and help in any way you could. Let me know if there is anything I can possibly do to assist you with this. Here is a link to the Electronic Games issue available at Retromags. It is the Rapidshare link which is free to anyone to use with or without registering or donating time or money to the site. http://www.retromags.com/forums/redirect.p...___1983_Jul.zip The Rapidshare link is placed inside the information section of the download page. The other link, the download link is for any member, not just ones that have chosen to support the site with money donations (we have many ways of earning upgraded memberships for free, just takes a little time and effort). It is unfortunately a situation where that link has to be kept for members only because it is run on an FTP that is paid for by the owner of Retromags, Phillyman, each month out of whatever monies get raised (and if the donations run short, it comes out of his personal pocket). We don't have Rapidshare links to everyone of the over 640 issues that are available, we do have RS links to about 98% of them though and are working on getting the missing ones up (usually the newest stuff is without a Rapidshare link). Reason for this is not because we are trying to force members to 'donate' to get access, it is because we have one member over there, meppi (co-owner of Retromags) that is willing to host files on his Rapidshare account. It takes time and bandwidth to download then upload each release (some of the newer releases are closing in on 200 megs) and meppi is in another country with a severely capped Internet access (compared to us in the USA). While not perfect, we are trying to address the problems. We have tried offering torrents in the past and have had horrible results with it. People are more interested in hitting and running with torrents and not sticking around to at least share what they got (which still hits Phillyman on his bandwidth each month). We are working on this and trying to offer up torrents in the future. ThumpNugget, if you are willing to allow your scans to be released on Retromags I would love to do it for you (would love it even more to see you guys come over and join and voice your opinions and concerns there for the other moderators could see what needs addressing). I mean, if you guys prefer PDF's over the CBZ/CBR's used at Retromags, voice it, we have some PDF's up (and have members willing to convert them just they need/want direction). We are a community driven project and need the opinion of members to help direct the site. Just a general note to anyone interested in joining Retromags. If you donate a magazine, you get upgraded in membership status. Right now the upgrade is to Premium Member which gets you 1.8 gigs of downloads per week from the RM FTP server (no waiting for Rapidshare). If you decide to join up, contact me over there about this forum and I will do anything I can to assist you with getting the most out of RM. I apologize to anyone that has come over there and tried to get a magazine release and wasn't able to, we are not trying to keep people out or away from the releases.
  2. As mentioned in a previous post up there, savestates would be awesome (surely this can be accomplished with minimal programming). I would absolutely support this if it was available with savestates and an SD card adapter (is there a way it could include USB of some sort which would remove the need of the adapter, just have the user use a thumb drive or an adapter over to USB). Looks interesting (love my PSP for basically being a portable version of a lot of systems but this could push it to the side for Genesis stuff if the button layout is more like the Sega 6-button controllers and maybe have shoulder buttons to save and load the savestates).
  3. ThumpNugget, if you are looking for somewhere to store those issues you are scanning you could come over to Retromags.com and join up and upload them there. We have a very active community of members uploading very rare issues of various computer magazines now (we recently released Ahoy!, Blip! and Computer Fun #1 and Antic Volume #4 issue #5 were all released in April). We have about 40 issues of Atari User (UK version) coming (I have them in possession, scanned and ready, just editing them now) and havee the below list of Electronic Games being worked on now, for release in the near future (I am sure though, as someone that has scanned issues, you understand the amount of work it takes to get one issue done). Electronic Games May ‘82 June ‘82 July ‘82 Aug. ‘82 Sep. ‘82 Oct. ‘82 Nov. ‘82 Dec. ‘82 Jan. ‘83 Feb. ‘83 Mar. ‘83 April ‘83 May ‘83 June ‘83 July ‘83 Aug. ‘83 Sep. ‘83 Oct. ‘83 Nov. ‘83 Dec. ‘83 Jan. ‘84 Feb. ‘84 Mar. ‘84 May ‘84 July ‘84 Sep. ‘84 Oct. ‘84 Nov. ‘84 Dec. ‘84 Jan. ‘85 March ‘85 April ‘85 Electronic Games (2nd run) Feb. ‘94 June ‘94 July ‘94

  5. Used to love playing this game in the arcades when I was younger (about 11 or so), glad my mom never came in with me, she just dropped me off at the front door and went to the Moose Lodge till she was ready to go home. Anyone else ever play it? It is sort of like an early House of the Dead with sprites instead of polygons done in that famous SNK style, albeit an early stage of it but you can see the style taking shape.
  6. Wow, maybe things would have been different had they been able to get it out on time (was it similar in design, just that late?).
  7. It was put there for some reason and the best reason I can get for not putting it in it's own section is because we don't have more issues available (plus as mentioned, it is the forerunner of EGM so I guess it fits).
  8. Thank you. I appreciate that. Come on over to Retromags when you get a chance and sign up, let me know here or on your site what your name is there, I have a treat for you. I am going to contact the ex early next week (haven't talked to her in about 5 years or so, last I heard her parents had that Halcyon and were using it for their Laserdisc playing needs).
  9. I wonder if it had been released would it have been pulled like Night Trap was, but Mortal Kombat was allowed to stay on shelves. Which one would it have been? Of course by the time it was to be released, we had the rating system in place and focus groups watching gaming more than ever so I know for sure it would have been more than a little controversial. Is anyone else reminded of the movie Saw by that one area in the game fashioned after a bathroom?
  10. I am amazed at the graphics there, I mean, I may be wrong here but was there anything on say, handhelds that came close to that prior to the GBA? Awesome video, downloading it and the others off of the youtube page now. Thanks for sharing it.
  11. Wasn't Super Mario Sunshine originally an N64 game?
  12. Come on over and check out the newest update at Retromags.com! Highlights this week are Ahoy! and Blip #1, also we have an antic issue available now! Ahoy #1 January 1984 here Antic Volume 4 Issue 5 here Blip issue 001 - Feb 1983 here Gamepro Issue 45 April 1993 here Gamepro Issue 50 September 1993 here Gamepro Issue 51 October 1993 here GamePro Issue 111 October 1998 here
  13. White Knight, just signed up, waiting on my confirmation e-mail. I browsed the forums a bit before signing up and liked it a lot. I know someone that has a Halcyon for sale, well, if you don't mind dealing with my firebreathing ex wife that is. She got it in the divorce (the court valued it at $3000 so I ended up giving her that to keep my truck at the time, I am still wondering if I made the right choice on that one).
  14. There are plenty of magazines older than Ahoy!, I know of Compute!, which was started in what, the late 70's? I may be wrong on that one but I know issue #40 of Compute! goes for about $30 on ebay (I would love to get a copy of #1). Here is a wiki entry on Cursor: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursor_(magazine) I am not sure that Cursor would be possible on Retromags, I mean, it would be an interesting situation to have proposed (the cassette situation). If anyone has any older mags they would like to help Retromags out with it would be great as we have a definite deficit in the older computer related mags that are available.
  15. We at Retromags.com are proud to announce that Ahoy! #1 has just been made available for download. http://www.retromags.com/forums/Retromags-...sent-t3726.html
  16. Just a quick addition to this news update: Retromags has just released Blip! #1. It should be of more interest here than the previous three releases would have been. Enjoy: http://www.retromags.com/forums/Blip-issue...3-file1209.html
  17. Weekly update ending April 18th, 2009 Next Generation #20 here PSM Issue #02 here Video Games & Computer Entertainment July 1990 here We have a great many other releases available too so come on over and take a look at what we have and who knows, you may like it and decide to stick around.
  18. While not sure if we have anything of interest to you but you could take a look at Retromags.com and see if there is anything that you would like to include or use for your podcasts (all we really ask is that you just mention where you got the mags from or something). Let me know if your interested.
  19. Hmmm, let me do some checking around. That really shouldn't be in that section, it should be in it's own section, or at least under misc, but not in that section. Thank you for the contribution!
  20. Hi, I am one of the moderators over at www.retromags.com and I just want to say, if we had access to such wonderful magazines then we would most heartily try and get them uploaded for everyone to enjoy. Certain members have given us flack for focusing on console magazines but, well, honestly, that is what most members have, and with certain ebay sellers charging close to $50 for an older issue of a computer magazine, it is likely to be awhile before they get put up. If anyone here has any magazines they would like to have uploaded on Retromags, we offer many ways to help with the process (I have personally edited close to 20 magazines for other members besides the Gamefan issues I have been able to personally scan and edit). I personally would love to see more older computer magazines on RM so if anyone has the ability or desire to help out, come on over and let's talk (same username there, triverse) or you can contact me here.
  21. Hi, I am a member over at Retromags.com, after reading your post there, I have been trying to find your issue on the site and can't. Do you still have it available on your computer? If so, do you have a username on Retromags.com (if so I can make sure the credit goes to you for releasing it). Thanks. TriVerse
  22. Another thing you could do is to take the systems that are not popular (after getting more responses obviously) and just list maybe the top 5 games for them or something. That could cut down quite a bit of your printed pages.
  23. My apologies for never having read your mag, going to correct that ASAP but I was just wondering how you do the price guide? Do you list every game possible with a price? If so, why not do something like the old trading card mags did (not sure if they still do it) and only list the harder to find or popular titles with prices and put a 'commons' price quote for unlisted games.
  24. There are a bunch at www.retromags.com, a website I am involved with to preserve old magazines and keep them available online. Edit: Should have followed the link before posting, the person in that thread is the man at those mags (he is co-owner of retromags)
