  1. Really? I didn't search to see if anyone else had had problems with the multicarts, but I do know of people who have had trouble getting a hold of Sean Kelly. There was a time when he actually did respond fairly regularly to me, but alas, things do change.
  2. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions...I have tried cleaning the contacts, but not reseating the board itself...I will try anything I can...thanks again!
  3. Hi All: I realize this probably doesn't exaclty belong in this forum, but I need someone to help fix my CV multicart - I got it several years ago from Sean Kelly and I can't seem to get a hold of him anymore, so I'm looking for someone else to help out. The multicart displays a menu upon startup with all of the selectable games. However, when you try to select a game, it simply flashes and ends up back on the menu screen. I've had this problem with it for quite a while, but it used to be that I could clean it and/or take it out and insert it again and after several tries I might get lucky and have it work. However, it seems those methods are no longer successful. If anyone can help, I'd be happy to pay for services. Please PM me or email at drwhotrades@yahoo.com. Thanks! Bryan

  5. 21 and 65 First time trying, so I get two, correct? If not, take the first one...thanks!
  6. Hi there, I saw your post about the car amp - I have an old one that was top of the line when I bought it in the early 90's. I'm afraid after all this time I'm not sure what the features are, but I'd be willing to check it out - let me know if you're interested...I think it cost me about $400 back in the day
  7. Not a problem. I figured since I just played it last night now would be a good time to share my thoughts before I forget them  Actually, your comment got me thinking - people who don't like Atari often joke about the generic sounds, which of course is correct compared with game sounds today, but the funny thing is that the Flashabck makes the sounds *worse* which is a real shame for me, because if I want people to criticize the crappy Atari sounds, I at least want them to be able to criticize the *real* crappy sound and not some even crappier "Atari simusound" I am just kidding, of course...no Atari bashing here!
  8. Well, I got my unit last night and was determined to try it out in an unbiased fashion. In other words, I wasn't expecting "real" 2600 or 7800 games. With that in mind, here's my opinion: Packaging - very nice. The box was compact and nicely detailed, and it was great to see the unit in all its brand spanking new glory. The unit itself is tiny, and it really does resemble an old 7800. Overall, I liked the design and packaging a lot. Controllers - I liked them a lot better than the original ProLine 7800 controllers. Although they look very similar, the smaller size makes for less pain when using them. I also liked the pause button included on each controller. Games - Well, here's where the problems begin. First, let me say that the sound is awful on every single game. It's hard to describe, but the "fullness" of the original sounds is missing, and the new sounds often sound muffled or incomplete. The degree of the sound problem varies from game to game. Some, if you try to forget the original sounds, seem fine, but others have awful sound regardless of whether you are familiar with the original or not. I tested out almost every game, and overall it is the 7800 games that suffer the most. It is obvious (at least to me) that the software used to create these versions is inferior to real 7800 hardware. Specifically, both Asteroids and Food Fight are mere shells of the real games. Asteroids has a completely different play mechanic. Whereas in the original, when you thrusted your ship kept drifting in the direction of the thrust, in this one your ship just stops after you are finished thrusting...odd. Food Fight is perhaps the worst of the games I tested - it is a flickerfest, the characters are crudely drawn, and the motion is slower than the original 7800 game. This one is the poorest of the lot. I didn ot try Desert Falcon, so I can't comment, but the only 7800 game that seeemd fine to me was Planet Smashers. Centipede was a close second, though. Most of the 2600 games fared better and, as some have said, if you ignore the fact that there are "real" 2600 versions, some work just fine on this unit. Sprintmaster, Millipede and Warlords all are definitely playable, as are Breakout (aside from the joystick control), Air-Sea Battle and Haunted House. Adventure, while playable, is just odd. When viewing it, it seemed overly bright to me, and too "crisp" - it's hard to explain, but it's analagous to seeing a model of a shark (a la "Jaws") compared to a CGI shark. While the CGI shark may seem more realistic on the surface, it's sometimes too good and too obvious that it's not real...that's how Adventure struck me. Although some have said Battlezone is horrible, I found that, aside from the colors, it played fine. It was one of the more enjoyable games for me. I was quite disappointed with Crystal Castles, though. While the new controllers actually make it easier to control and the game plays a bit slower than the original, which also makes it a bit easier, the collision detection is way off, and Bentley often bumps into invisible edges of the maze when there's nothing there...if the collision detection was better I'd enjoy this one a lot. Finally, Yar's Revenge...overall the game is a bit slower than the original, which might make it easier for younger or newer players. It is hard to get a Zorlon cannon by eating away at the Quotile shield though, and some of the blocks cannot be eaten at all. Aside from this, though, it does play like the original. Thus, overall I'd have to say the product is average. About 50% of its games are what I'd consider playable and enjoyable, while the other 50% are just not, regardless of whether or not you've played the originals. In general, the sound is the worst aspect. It's weak no matter how you judge the gameplay. I'd say the unit is as good as the Jakks 10-in-1 joystick, but not as good as the paddle controller, and it's better than some of the multigame sticks out there. Here's hoping Atari continues to produce additional, better products along these lines.
  9. Well, let's put it this way, I'm not even at the stage of detemining whether or not certain roms will run. I just want them all in the CC2 menu. I have about 2,500 roms left to convert, and I'd just like to avoid having to manually guess the bankswitching routines used for each of them. Not all of the roms leftover after automatic conversion. For example, there are about 50 Adventure Plus binaries that weren't converted, plus lots of others. I'm not trying to be vague, but it's a huge number of files.
  10. Thanks for the help...yes, that works for some, but I also have a lot of demos and other types of programs that I'd need a list for...any help for these types of programs? I'm using roms from this location: http://www.redrival.com/snailsoft/#
  11. Hello All: Apologies if this has been asked before, but I finally had some time to actually use my CC2 and now I have a question about editing the menu.txt file. I used the menu generating program but still have many, many roms that were not automatically converted. I don't mind doing them manually, but I have no idea about which roms use with bankswitching files. Is there a utility that I can use that will tell me which bankswitching a binary file uses or do I have to just use my best guess? Is there a list of all the current "good" cc2 roms and their bankswitching routines? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Bryan
  12. Thanks for posting the pic - man, I don't know where the heck I was looking as I stood in that section at least half a dozen times perusing the games right there on the table and failed to notice the TV setup...heck, I could have been playing AND buying! Still, though, some signage might have helped steer me in the right direction...
  13. Wow, I must have really missed that as I visited the DP booth at least 10 times during the show and only saw one TV period. I never saw anyone playing anything at the DP booth (although I did see Penn & Teller and Stonix)...I saw no systems set up for play of any kind...that's really odd. I mean, I shopped at the DP booth many times and covered all sides of it to see all the items for sale and I didn't even see a second TV. Of course I believe it was there, but I never saw any big crowds at the DP booth at all, which I think I would have noticed if they were all crowded around a TV set playing unreleased games...I'm sorry I missed it, especially since seeing those games was one big reason why I made the trip all the say to San Jose...bummer. I am correct that there were no signs of any kind advertising the games, though, right? Two questions: First, is Sweat the Starpath game? Second, will any of these be released in cartridge form? Thanks!
  14. Hmmm...that's really odd that you mention that you had all of these games available for play at the DP booth...I don't recall seeing any of them displayed or even running on the TV you had at your booth...there certainly weren't any signs indicating that these games were around - did I miss something? I was waiting to see Wings and was disappointed that I didn't - did anyone else who went to CGE see these games?
  15. Funny you should mention that as I am doing something along those lines myself...I'll be letting everyone know once it's done!
  16. Hey all, I have some items that I will be putting back up on Ebay soon, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone would like them before I do...to find them, so a search by seller for commorg01, then check all completed auctions...any classic game stuff that has not sold is fair game. Make me an offer and I'll consider it! I also have an almost complete, in the box US Odyssey 2 collection that is not in the ebay listings, but it up for sale...the only US carts missing are Atlantis, Demon Attack and Power Lords, but otherwise everything is there in the box. I'd be happy to take some pics and send them along if you'd like. Feel free to email me at drwhotrades@yahoo.com for info or with offers. Thanks! Bryan
  17. Yes, I've tried it in 4 separate consoles. I keep hoping that the next time I try to cart it will work...so far no luck. Yep I've tried the blowing on it, too - works for Nintendo, but not really for this cart!
  18. Well, I'd stress it "used" to work - the cart is pretty solid in the case and it does not move at all. However, I have given thought to opening it and seeing if it would work...somehow, given that the previous multicart I had had the same issue, I believe it is something else...
  19. I did forget to mention that I did clean the cart and made sure it was seated properly in it's housing. Inserting the cart with a lot of pressure did do the trick once or twice a long time ago, but it no longer works. Alas, I have a nice menu screen to look at but not much else...
  20. Hello All: Thism ight not eb the correct forum for this, but I need some help with my Colecovision multicart and I thought I'd try here. I purchased a Colecovision multicart from Sean Kelly some years ago and it worked fine up until about a year and a half ago, when it developed a problem. It never goes past the main menu screen, where you select your game. When you pick one, it keeps reverting back to the main menu. When I first got my multicart, it had this problem. I sent it back to Sean and got a new one, which was fine for a while. Unfortunately, I have tried to contact Sean a few times and haven't heard back from him, so I was hoping that someone with Colecovision knowledge could help me. I'd be willing to pay someone for their services if they'd be able to take a look at the cart and perhaps fix it if something physical was wrong. I'm pretty much out of ideas, and I'd like to be able to save this cart if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Please feel free to email me at drwhotrades@yahoo.com -thanks! Bryan
  21. Yes, of course that might work, but somehow it's just not "right"...actually, if I play with the game muted and the TV off that might make it interesting...
  22. At the risk of being branded a heretic, I'd have to say that I don't really care for Pitfall II either. It's one of those games that everyone loves, and in some ways I feel like I should like this game, but for some reason it doesn't hold my interest. I'd have to say that the main reason for this (and here comes the really heretical part) is the music. A great achievement, yes, but it drives me nuts. It's very in your face and, for me, detracts from the game immensely. I wouldn't say I hate Pitfall II or anything, but if given the choice I prefer a nice, somewhat quiet game of Pitfall! instead.
  23. Hm, is is good or bad if you still suck at it?` Hah! Well, it means I'm bad for sure! The fact that I keep coming back to try again means it's a good game. Somehow I never do that with modern games, even though I feel like I should since they *are* videogames after all... And there are many other games which even I still can beat with closed eyes and that's exactly the reason why I never play them again. What, you mean you never play Froggo's Karate just for fun? Bryan
  24. Ok, time for me to stop lurking and start posting, partiuclarly since I made the effort to get a new password - so much for remembering my old one! In response to the overrated/underrated topic, here are my choices: Barnstorming - way too short to justify my spending $40 on it back in the day River Raid - liked it as a kid, but never as much as the hype told me to Pitfall 2 - I really, really *want* to love this game, but the music drives me crazy! Atlantis - never got into this one - nice graphics, but dullsville, baby! Cosmic Ark - a decent game, but not really much there. Underrated: Klax - an addictive game if ever there was one. I can play this one for hours. Spacemaster X-7 - Fast paced, addictive, great! E.T. - loved it as a kid - played for hours. Space Battle - Always liked this one Bump N' Jump - very good port, IMHO Golf - nice, relaxing game Video Pinball - always liked it Krull - cool adventure game. Played this for hours Fishing Derby - good two player action Bowling - nothing great graphically, but good nonetheless Ok, I could go on and on about underrated games, but overall I'd have to say that the measure of a "good" game for me is A) whether or not I still suck at it after 25 years of playing it, and B) whether I keep picking that game to try it "one more time" - games like Kaboom and Stampede fall into this category for me, as well as a lot of others.
