  1. Thanks! I have the black one Fair enough on the terminology. My copy of Power Drive Rally is CIB (NA cover) and looks legitimate; just wanted to see if anyone has one that does say "Atari" on the back because all of the ones I've seen do not. Figured it might be different from other releases because it's a Time Warner Interactive title. Here's a photo for reference: http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/uvEAAOSwc-tY32Vq/s-l1600.jpg As for I-War, it was a sealed copy that I opened myself, my Jaguar CD is kept behind glass and has not had that issue with any other cartridges, and I've seen other users post specifically about that specific issue with I-War... I guess the real test would be to see if anyone has been able to run I-War through a Jaguar CD.
  2. Hey, I'm back after nearly seven years! Still big into my Jaguar collection, and I'm hoping you all can answer a few questions: I-War doesn't seem to display anything when played through a Jaguar CD; works fine when I remove the CD player though... Is this normal? I've read other posts about this happening, and I'm wondering if it's a known issue or caused by something else. Any definitive info on the different Iron Soldier 2 discs/packages? I know there's a black CD, a yellow CD, and a full-colour CD, and that it's available in either a cartridge-style box with a "CD" sticker or a clamshell case... What's the timeline on all of that? I've seen Power Drive Rally cartridges that don't say "Atari" in the plastic on the back... Is that normal, are they reproductions, or is it something else? Thanks! Also, glad to see new things happening in the scene!
  3. Isn't the Dreamcast version a Beats Of Rage mod, and not a port?
  4. Anyone remember the Genesis version? It was an enhanced port of the NES game... Would definitely be cool to see it even further improved on the Jaguar
  5. Looks like that was the idea... But it sounds like nothing other than the dongle exists. If someone were enterprising enough to write a web browser for the Jaguar and also write drivers for all the necessary hardware (mouse, keyboard, modem), then we'd be in business.
  6. That's what I figured. The second one looks like the Master System power adapter, and has a higher safety standards registration number (or whatever it's called). I just bought an expansion port 7800 with the first adapter, but the shop had three 7800s and one of each adapter... I wanted to make sure I got a matching set. Thanks everyone!
  7. I've seen two 7800 power adapters in the wild, but don't know which one is the original... Do any of you know? Here're the two I'm talking about: http://atariace.com/images/atariace.com/atari7800/systems/images/a273.jpg and http://atariace.com/images/atariace.com/atari7800/systems/images/a275.jpg
  8. I love Venture on my ColecoVision, especially the music! I wish I could help with this; I really do. Also, I know it's very early, but would you consider a smaller, cartridge-oriented release (2~6Mb?) for those of us with SkunkBoards and the like?
  9. Luckily, that isn't my criteria I agree with your entire post, but my point was that the genres I like aren't merely present on the Jaguar, but actually well represented. What I realised as I developed my ideas was that I was constantly moving closer to existing ideas. The_Laird's suggestion of a 2D beat-'em-up, however, has genuinely intrigued me...
  10. Clearly, you did. My apologies for appearing to be contentious. As for assembling a team, it all comes down to questions of cooperation and commitment... Unfortunately, the latter would likely prove difficult for me, given my non-Jaguar-related endeavours
  11. Both genres are undoubtedly unrepresented on the Jaguar, but I was being subjective, since the topic was asking a personal question: ...See? An RPG seems like it would be a massive undertaking... Perhaps one day, but I can't see it happening in the foreseeable future. A 2D beat-'em-up is intriguing though... Something like Streets Of Rage or Castle Crashers would be fun.
  12. I studied engineering and computer science at university, and while I could take the time to brush-up on my skills, I have other things that I'd rather be doing. As much as I've always loved the intrinsic problem-solving of programming, it will always be an idle hobby for me, as there is little appeal to tackling a project so overwhelming as developing a proper game... I'd much rather play games than make them. I did, however, buy a SkunkBoard v2 with aspirations of someday developing something of my own, but quickly ran into an interesting problem with each concept I explored: The Jaguar already has everything I want. I would like to make something other than a puzzle game or a shoot-'em-up, and I have no experience with vector-based 3D engines, so I decided to create a killer 2D action game with a real focus on animation and visual effects instead of detailed sprites. It didn't take long for me to realise that Pitfall and Rayman already have things well taken care of on the 2D action game front (and Bubsy and Zool 2 ain't bad). The more I tried to find a genre that appealed to me that hadn't already been covered by previous Jaguar developers, the more discouraged I got. Sprite-scaling racing games (Atari Karts, Super Burnout), fighting games (Fight For Life, Ultra Vortek), shoot-'em-ups (Raiden, Zero5), FPSs (AvP, DOOM, Wolfenstein), etc... So while I've yet to find a real impetus to get to work on Jaguar development, my experience so far has put the quality of the Jaguar's library into perspective. I'm a pretty discerning collector, really only buying games that I will play and enjoy, and when I look at my Jaguar collection alongside my 32X, 3DO, Genesis, NES, PCE, PS1, SEGA CD, Saturn, and SNES collections, I see that they're all pretty close in terms of quality titles worth owning
  13. Both of you guys are in Europe... Perhaps it's a North American thing? Or maybe it was a rental unit at some point. I wouldn't mind hearing from an early-adopter who bought theirs new, just to be sure. As it stands, I'll likely keep whichever is in better condition, regardless of stickers or serial numbers. Thanks for the input!
  14. My first Jaguar (bought used) has a foil sticker on the back-right corner of the console that says "warranty void if removed"... Is this something that originally came with all Jaguars? My second Jaguar (also bought used) doesn't have one, nor do any photos online. I'm having a hard time finding any info on the subject. Thanks!
  15. That's unfortunate! Bubsy looks like a lame total conversion of Zool 2 at first, and the unintuitive controls can be pretty off-putting; take the time to learn his moves and explore that world though, and you'll find a massive adventure that'll really test your twitch-gaming abilities without feeling cheap. Club Drive, well, it's pretty rough around the edges, but there's some interesting stuff in there; it's worth checking-out if you stumble across a cheap copy. They're not going anywhere... The whole point is that they're unwanted, so they're sold-off or never purchased in the first place. I'm sure there're a few collectors with five copies of every common cart out there just collecting dust in a box somewhere, but for the most part these are the turds that sit on vintage game store shelves and make the Jaguar look bad.
  16. I really wish the shoulder buttons could be used for strafing in DOOM and Wolfenstein 3d
  17. If I may, in defence of AvP, I'd like to quote some older posts of mine:
  18. Well put; I agree with almost all of your points I do have to ask why you have no love for the Jaguar port of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure - it's a great platformer, and has the best graphics and most features of any console version; only the SEGA CD version beats it in terms of audio. As for Kasumi Ninja, I just couldn't wrap my head around the controls; perhaps it's worth another look.
  19. I like AotMP quite a bit. It's similar in presentation to the Lemmings series of games, but the objective is reversed and the gameplay more visceral; instead of saving the penguins by directing them, you have to kill them yourself before they're mutated into hulking mutants! It's a twisted little game, and otherwise only available on PC. As for Cybermorph differences, there's a thread on the subject (and there have been many more before it) here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/156720-cybermorph-differences/
  20. Which Jaguar games can you live without? Perhaps you've tried them and sold them, not had any interest in tracking them down, or even passed-up an opportunity to get them... Mine are: Cannon Fodder (passed; available on other platforms) Cybermorph 1Mb (sold; have the 2Mb version) Checkered Flag (passed; awful) Evolution: Dino Dudes (passed; available on other platforms) Kasumi Ninja (passed; awful) NBA Jam TE (passed; available on other platforms) Supercross 3D (bought CIB and sold shortly thereafter; awful) Syndicate (passed; available on other platforms) Theme Park (passed; available on other platforms) Troy Aikman Football (passed; available on other platforms) Of the above games that are available on other platforms, is there anything special about the Jaguar versions that would warrant buying them? For example, I own Attack Of The Mutant Penguins because the Jaguar version is the original, and DOOM, Rayman, and many others because the Jaguar versions are still unique or penultimate ports to this day.
  21. My collection: I have a Jaguar, a controller, an official RF unit, an official power adapter, and a SkunkBoard v2, as well as: Alien Vs. Predator Attack of the Mutant Penguins Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tails Club Drive Cybermorph (2Mb) DOOM Fight For Life Flashback Flip Out! Hover Strike Iron Soldier Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure Raiden Rayman Super Burnout Tempest 2000 Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy Val D'isére Skiing and Snowboarding White Men Can't Jump Wolfenstein 3D Zool 2 Zoop All of the above games are CIB, except for AvP (cart only), Club Drive (no insert), DOOM (no overlay), and Fight For Life (no manual). My wants: Battlemorph Battlesphere/Battleshpere Gold I-War Iron Soldier II (cart) Jaguar CD Power Drive Rally Protector/Protector SE Ruiner Pinball Skyhammer Towers II Ultra Vortek Zero 5
  22. I have a retail-boxed 2Mb Cybermorph cart...
  23. I don't think he was referring to the length of the gameplay, but rather the idea that's an actual ROM image of a game that would be on a cart instead of a game you'd just load into RAM each time you want play it. Also, if it's taking that long to load, then they're likely connected over unpowered USB 1.1... It can take minutes to load an image that way.
