  1. Sure, that sounds fine. I can direct visitors from my site to see your site if they're interested in images and details about specific systems, and you can direct your visitors to my site if they're interested in historical, analytical, and sometimes obscure data on the market. Or if they're looking for an FAQ on the pinball TV Game unit. . . . Heh, yours already sounds like it will get more views than mine. Good luck putting up the site. onmode-ky I have a pretty dang decent collection of PNPs, a pretty dang decent camera, and would love to help. Short on time tonight, but I can get a basic list going pretty quickly, and send a pic or two for you to see if you're interested in more. I'm subscribed to this thread, so you can just respond here no PM necessary--easier for starters.
  2. Necessity is the mother of...Atari-related doodad projects!
  3. Um, what tiki? I'm willing to try anything. I mean, it can't hurt right?
  4. Pretty much accurate as far as I know, although I don't own either one.
  5. Looks like heckuva fair deal to me! I'd be all over it if I hadn't retired from Genesis some years back.
  6. All I'm thinking is that maybe, just maybe, this is some PR for a reinvigoration of manufacturing/marketing/selling "classic" Atari toys, games, merch, schwag, etc. With the recent Taco Bell retro promotion, the FB2+ cereal promo thing, and now Bushnell... seems to me something is brewing. A lot of coincidence going on there. Recent Atari schwag/shirts/pajamas/shot glasses for sale at Target also. I tried to read through all of this thread and was too much to read it all, but I didn't see anyone else mentioning this. I'm just saying MAYBE, that's all.
  7. Um, people "give a shit" because you're on a site obviously populated by classic video game enthusiasts. Duh. What's next, go to a NFL fan site and tell them the Super Bowl is "just a game" also? How about go to a bar and tell everyone there that drinking is a waste of time? Or maybe cruise down to the nearest gay nightclub and tell the crowd they should "just get over" being gay. You're on video game lover's turf here. If you think that's dumb then quietly move along. Jeez.
  8. Wonder007, or anybody else, do you know if you have any mobiles/displays that for both 2600/5200 like this one below? (although this one is really for 2600/8-bit computers). Allan Wow, that thing is cool! You need more 5200s, though.
  9. Thanks for that vid link--very cool. I have wanted a blip for a loooong time, I think about 30 years. May finally have to hit up the Ebay(shudder) to get one.
  10. I still am surprised that modern game systems don't have a track ball peripheral. Besides being utilized for retro games, they could be used as an excellent substitute for a light gun(without the annoying flashing screen or hangups with gun-shaped peripherals a la Columbine), menu navigation as well as web browsing. As many PC gamers know, first person shooters are also excellent with a mouse/track ball. I know modern game publishers and peripheral manufacturers are shy about wacky add-ons with limited application, but it seems the track ball would have more universal usability than a light gun that can only be used for a few games and nothing else. I have a USB track ball mouse and the PC Atari 80 Classics compilation, and couldn't be happier. Perfectly emulated Crystal Castles, Missile Command and Centipede with a track ball? Sweet bliss! Works pretty well for Tempest, too. I don't have much reason to use my gargantuan 5200 for Centipede or Missile Command anymore. The PC version of House of the Dead is also fantastic.
  11. I read quite a bit of Walter Day's posts on twin galaxies regarding the issue, and while much of it seems believable there are still holes in the story. I think at least some of the conflicts come from this angle: I believe Walter Day doesn't have quite the animosity towards Steve Weibe that Billy Mitchell has, although Walter obviously caught himself believing in and doing basically anything Billy said until folks called him on it--relating to playing Mitchell's video during Weibe's Funspot record attempt, posting Mitchell's high score before verifying it, etc. While I believe editing in King of Kong accentuated conflicts between the two record holders/wanters, certain factual details cannot be denied. Most noticeably the cell phone conversation outside Billy's restaurant. Walter Day can insist Steve Weibe was welcome at the luncheon as Walter seems to honestly feel that way. However, statements made in the aforementioned phone conversation obviously speak to the contrary. Furthermore, Mitchell's lame refusal to play against Weibe, and his arrogant lack of acknowledgement of Weibe's presence at the final record attempt shown in the film cannot be denied. Mitchell could have manned up and said something like "Hey man, I haven't worked on Donkey Kong in years. Give me a year to get my game back up to snuff and I'll play you then." Seems Mitchell's play skills are only at their best in a more private setting I guess. Weibe attempted to contact Mitchell via phone in a most cordial way as shown in the film, with Mitchell again showing his blatant rudeness and arrogance by not returning the call. Again, he could have made a statement like I mentioned above, or even set up a playoff on his own terms that I'm sure Weibe would have gladly agreed to. As in the seventies advertising slogan about how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop, the world may never know all the details here. I gotta say, though, that King of Kong was a very enjoyable film and I've been surprised by the number of non-gamers that saw and liked it as much as I did. Chasing ghosts seems to be more of a film for gamers only.
  12. You can only edit your post for a limited time.
  13. If you're just gonna trash the shell, I'll gladly pay snail shipping to get it. I've been looking for one for a mod project. Please let me know and good luck with your project. I'll be watching.
  14. Looks like the VR headset is sold, pending. GBA TV doohickie still up for grabs!
  15. Victormaxx Stuntmaster Virtual Reality headset, for use with SNES or Genesis. Includes original box(decent shape) and all cables. Cables are still in their little baggies--they and the headset itself are in pristine condition, barely used at all. It even still has the little stick you clip to your shoulder so you can turn your head for left/right movement in games like Doom--see last pic. In all honesty this feature works like it's supposed to, but is only marginally usable for real game play. This is a relic leftover from a giant genesis collection I used to have. You don't see these very often anymore. I think a reasonable price for this item is $45 plus shipping. Item number 2, a TV converter for GBA Gameboy Advance. This is in excellent condition, although the box has a little wear. Everything is still in the box, including the special little screwdrivers it takes to open up your GBA. These are pretty rare anymore. I think $40 plus shipping is pretty fair.
  16. The Entex ones have rubber d-pads, right? My guess is the carbon dots underneath and/or spots on the pcb the dots touch need cleaning. Open up and use q-tips and alcohol if you haven't already. Coleco Pac-Man is a tough one. That's gonna require some aftermarket engineering. Thin little flexible pieces of metal are what make the contacts for the joystick in that one, and eventually after a million flexes it wears out. Replacing that with a similar piece of metal MAY work, but won't be too easy. Better solution may be to replace with microswitches, also not too easy to make them fit correctly and actually work. Space Invaders? Not sure there, but looking for any burned traces on the way to that part of the screen MAY be the answer. Thanks brojamfootball, I appreciate the advice. I did try cleaning the pads on the rubber D-pads. Sadly they are just very well worn. If I swap the rubber from the 2-player to the 1-player, then the troublesome side works fine and vice versa. The Coleco controls are fine on the board. It seems the spring/plastic stick just have some flex to them with age, requiring a crazy amount of pressure to make Pac-Man move. If I swap player 1 with player 2's controls, the issue is reversed. My problem is just that these are worn well. Besides that, they look and work great! I have successfully fixed many to like-new status... just these ones are out of my league since I don't have the ability to build custom rubber D-pads. You may also be able to try the glue-a-piece-of-foil method, a la 5200 controllers. Just a thought. If it's the plastic sticks themselves from the Coleco that are in question, I suggest a bit of custom refabrication. Bolt spacers, nuts and large plastic washers from Home Depot maybe. I have a tabletop galaxian that I received with both sticks broken off--used spacers and tiny little nuts and bolts to refab them. You could maybe cut the bottom off your stick and through-bolt a bigass plastic washer on the bottom? Or cut out the shaft of the stick and replace it with a spacer, through-bolted? Not sure exactly what's going on with what you've got, but I'll bet something like that could be done. Good luck whatever you do. Keep us informed, whatever you figure out. I can always use more ideas/plans, etc.
  17. The video and audio travel down the same line, so if video comes through you've got it connected correctly. My guess is there's an internal problem, either a connection or bad sound chip. Maybe try a 2600 cart and see if that gets sound, for starters. I'm gonna guess it won't. Beyond that, open 'er up and start looking around for burned traces or loose connections on the board, starting from the output connector working backward.

  19. I searched around online like crazy for scans of tabletop game art a year or two ago and came up dry. Seemed the best thing to do was use real arcade cabinet art and modify it a bit with photoshop or something. However, maybe a cool AtariAger will be willing to scan theirs for you. Good luck! Thanks for the reply. What stickers were you looking for, maybe I can scan one of my tabletops for you, I have Galaxian, Pac Man and Zaxxon. I was originally looking for Galaxian art, but turned out the tabletop I got wasn't too bad after all. Then I wanted Donkey Kong art for a homemade tabletop. Ended up finding arcade cab art which would've worked fine, but then the project got sidetracked and now that I'm ready to move forward with the project it seems real arcade art is harder to find than it once was. Anyway, good luck on the quest and thanks. Maybe keep bumping this thread for a day or two and a kind soul will scan theirs for you.

  21. Well as I stated, Ms. Pac-Man does not work with a 6 button controller. The mode button on a 6 button controller is used to make it 'act' like a 3 button controller. The person at SOA was incorrect.
  22. 3 buttons came first. 6 button controllers came out later. As a result, some earlier games don't work well with a 6 button controller, hence the 'mode' button, meant to be held down during system boot to get the 6 button controller to act like the older 3 button one. Some games just don't work like this. The only one I can think of offhand is Ms. Pac-Man. IIRC, when using a 6 button controller with this game, even if 'mode' button is held during system boot, you can't go up. The Sega 6 button controllers are kinda small, with the buttons pretty darn close together. There were some third party controllers with individually selectable turbo functions(auto-fire) that used a shape more like the original 3 button Sega controllers. These 3rd party controllers had a lot more room for 6 buttons and worked nicely. Of course, as is mentioned in previous posts, the 6 button control is a necessity for some games, especially fighters. That being said, both kinds have their appeal.
